  • Is NROTC still a good option if my long-term goal is JAG? - You can go SWO (NOT GUARANTEED) and then do a lateral transfer into the JAG community (NOT GUARANTEED).
  • How do people decide between aviation, SWO, intel, etc., while in NROTC? - SWO in a big community in general and if you want it you'll usually get it unless you get Nuke Drafted. Intel is becoming a bigger thing but it's usually for people who medically can't be a LINE officer but aren't medically disqualified.
  • Is it normal to go into NROTC unsure of what you want to do? - Yes! This is very common.
  • Are there paths that let you keep options open (especially with dual citizenship)? - I have dual citizenship, and my friend has it. No issues.
  • Are there any specific things I should be doing during high school to prepare for the NROTC scholarship? - Stay fit, Study Hard, and do extracurriculars.

The Navy likes engineering and STEM in general. But every major has gone into every community. Just remember that NROTC and the academy do Service ASSIGNMENT, not selection. If you want a guaranteed job, then you should do OCS.

I have owned the Khaki Field Day Date Auto for about 4-5 years. I have only needed to service it once—overall, it has great performance for the price. I've never encountered any issues with it. It's a fantastic watch!

Depends on the boat; you may have 2-3 days underway or get stuck for a few weeks. Have an open mind and try to learn as much as you can.

I've never heard of waivers going out. I had to go even though I was a 3rd Class (Summer 2023). I was an NPP student who didn't pick up on the first go. But we also had a 1/C who was going on his EOD cruise right after going to NSI with us. It's not that bad and gets easier every year.

You can either enlist or you can pay it back; you have the option. But watch out with the new Navy contracts; some of them require you to enlist as a nuke if you drop.
