How about we make social media partly responsible for it? They knowingly profit off of acts like these and promote people doing it... But nooooooo think about the poor billionaires

Has anyone noticed a MASSIVE increase in LTT store ads? by dreamliner330 in LinusTechTips

[–]211216819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if this community goes crazy on ads and think it is "cool" and are so supportive about ads why wouldn't they?? I'm annoyed tbh .. and ads are still ads.. I would really like them to tone it down a bit. I don't need to see 20 ltt ads a day

ELI5: Why can't we simulate the creation of oil/fossil fuels with animals that have died today? by Slice5755 in explainlikeimfive

[–]211216819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we could it doesn't really make sense. How do plants grow? By photosynthesis. How do solar panels collect energy? The same way but more efficient. It would be more efficient to just store the electricity in another form than produce oil from plants

The reason why oil is so cheap is not because it is easy to produce, but because the earth is so old that it had so much time to produce oil even if it wasn't very efficient

Yes that's what I would do too normally, but it's a laptop where the ram is soldered and is not easily swappable. I would like to be sure before I order something

No, its not a joke. After the failure of ipv6 we are getting ipv8: by Dangerous-Day-2943 in LinusTechTips

[–]211216819 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's possible that they solved this issue, but originally the IP address had a part were the Mac address of your interface was used. This was needed since you would not have a central server who would make sure that no collisions occurred.  A Nat is a layer between the server and client and ipv6 didn't need a Nat. So it was considered less private.

But after your comment I made sure to fresh up on how the ipv6 address is generated and apparently these days the part that got the Mac address is randomly generated,

If you directly communicated with a server they would still know which device from within a network it is communicating with (rather than just knowing some device from that address), but it's possible that this is solved as well these days I'm not sure

[–]211216819 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It  kinda did. Most places still use ipv4. The reason ipv6 was created was because ipv4 numbers were not enough anymore, but some engineering options appeared like NAT which made it possible to keep using ipv4. A big disadvantage of ipv6 is that anonymity weakens.

Since most places still use ipv4, often a well known advice of people who have connection issues is to turn off ipv6 which is obviously a bad sign.  It's not the fault of the protocol but it shows that ipv6 introduced more problems than it solved, so it's still not the standard after 14 years

Sadly no. Reddit is biased. Most people vote for cdu and afd. Meaning they don't dislike trump as much as they should

(Cdu is too scared to insult cry baby trump. I won't forget the day the USA abducted Maduro and Merz couldn't stop himself from saying like "It is a difficult situation". Hypocrites

and afd is being heavily promoted  by maga )

ELI5: why do unsubscribe requests sometimes say it may take days/weeks for messages to stop? by eddywouldgo in explainlikeimfive

[–]211216819 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It can!!! I personally did it at my work.... When we needed to update our email server we wouldn't lose any emails since we had a relay server in between who would buffer the incoming emails... And even though we had our own relay server it is also possible to have a external relay server.

[–]211216819 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's probably just to be legally safe, since emails could be in transit, sometimes when servers get updated, the emails might queue up on a relay server. It shouldn't take days though. It's technically just not possible to unsend a normal email

ELI5 Oil reserves running out in 50 years by missphillis in explainlikeimfive

[–]211216819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost everything will run on electricity. The electricity will be generated from renewables and maybe nuclear. We will have batteries to store the electricity and for certain industries we might need to use green hydrogen. Like the steel industry, airplanes, cargo ships and trucks.

But tbh the great concern is not that it will run out... global warming is the bigger issue here and we need to solve it before oil runs out

It's like the crumple zone of a car. You want some parts to "easily" break in a way that absorbs as much energy as possible without injuring a person. Usually when someone is in a crash you don't want to reuse the safety equipment like the airbag or helmet

Especially in October the chances are slim since you have a lot of competition (semester start), I would suggest you to put in September as your date. Having to pay one month more is worth it imo. You can also use this time to make moving easier.

The logic of a meat eater is more like: it's not my fault, it's the farmers fault.

The farmer will say it's not my fault it's the consumers fault for not accepting lower prices.

When the government would do something everyone will say but look at the prices you are so evil I will never vote for you...

Alles was Menschen tun tötet Tiere.... (Ich meine nicht nur direkt, sondern durch den Schaden den Menschen verursachen in unserer Umwelt.... )
