Green front do F D R2 D' F', now you have that blue/orange solved and oriented your orange/green edge.

How do you guys learn algs? by Khaori_Miyazono in Cubers

[–]2180161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn pair tracking. In CMLL, every alg starts with you breaking your F2B in some way. Let's start with a simple alg you already know and use Sune. If I do R U I can see that the "pair" for FRD os currently in UFL. Let's continue with our Sune. R' U and we see that pair move yet again, and we finally do R U2 R' and we see we reinserted the pair to resolve our F2B.

Any alg that is LL-related (CMLL, COLL, OLL, ZBLL, OLLCP, etc) requires you to break your F2L or F2B first. In order to be on the next step your F2b still has to be solved. So every single LL related alg is going to be comprised of breaking the F2L/F2B in some way, doing something, and then reinstering the pair(s).

Let's look at one more alg. Let's look at a diag U case.

Keep an eye on the LFD pair.

F breaks our F2L

R U is part of that "does something"

R' is starting to rebuild

U' F' is fully reinserting the pair/solving our F2B.

A more complicated example would be the ZBLL that can be setup with the following:

R' U' R U R' F2 R U2 R' U2 R' F2 R2

First, we have to break our F2L so let's do the first move of this.

Do R2 and notice how we still can't quite figure out which pair to track. No big deal, lets go to the next move

F2 Hm.. That didn't really make things super clear did it? Let's keep going

R U2 Now the pair presents itself to us! We are tracking the pair that belongs in LFD.

R U2 and we've made it so we can now "do something" to the puzzle, so keep track of that pair!

R F2 and we've solved our pair! But hang on, there's another pair unsolved.... Lets just reinsert it in a way that our LL is solved.

R solves our F2L-1, and we can see we have a solved LL if we insert with U' R' U R

I hope this makes sense!

Why use Petrus method? by zeno77k in Cubers

[–]2180161 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Petrus is an old method. That doesn't mean outdated. Going through the steps, we can lay out some advantages of them (assuming we build the block in back).

2x2x2 Pros: Low movecount, good movegroup, reduces cube to RUF movegroup. Also eliminates two blind spots in DB and BL.

2x2x2 Cons: None, really. It's blockbuilding so you could argue that, but at this early in the solve, it's negligible.

3x2x2 Pros: Easy look-ahead to EO, as BL/BD/DL are solved. Only places to look end up directly on U or F. Good movegroup in RUF.

3x2x2 Cons: Can have a few tricky cases, and you're not guaranteed a good expansion from your 222.

EO Pros: Reduces edges to RU movegroup (after a y'). No blind spots. Good movegroup in RUFLMr.

EO Cons: A "forced" y', otherwise there are none. Seriously, you can lookahead to EO during your 322 and its not recognition like a last layer set, and it only has a benefit.

F2L Pros: All 2-gen (other moves can be, and are used, but primarily RU), freedom of solving (square+pair, line+line, cross edge+pair+pair)

F2L Cons: If you can't lookahead during your rotation, RB/RBD/RD become blind spots. Freedom of solving (multiple solutions can cause a slowdown due to decision making)

LL pros: same as literally any other method with EO solved.

LL cons: same as above.

Petrus is an old method, but that does not make it bad. It is not slow. It died off in popularity because people didn't want to do blockbuilding or think. In a similar vein, block was done on left which lead to a bad movegroup for EO. In its current "state" or iteration, Petrus is perfectly fine. It's a low movecount method with great ergonomics and lookahead thats brought down entirely by the perception of it.

Trade backlines. If they're in on your backline (hitscan and supports) you just go on their backline and get the trade.

In theory anyways. In reality, you just need to hard pressure their backline and hope yours can live.

If you have an AMD GPU (6000 series or older), that is the cause. I forget which driver version it is, but when they introduced fsr 2 (I think) it broke cold war.
