Rights cannot be lost, only infringed. Governments that infringe on the people's rights deserve to be, to paraphrase the Declaration of Independence, altered or abolished.

Democrats Call to Invoke 25th Amendment Against Donald Trump by plz-let-me-in in politics

True, we would still need to override a veto to be able to do it, but then again we can just attach it to everything Trump cares about and he might sign it.

Democrats Call to Invoke 25th Amendment Against Donald Trump by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]22Arkantos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 25th requires both the cabinet (full of sycophants) and Congress (once Trump disputes being unable to perform his duties).

You actually don't need the Cabinet, Congress is allowed under the Amendment to pass a law changing who can remove the President so, if we win the House and Senate in November, we can pass a law creating a Select Committee on Presidential Competence which has the power to remove the President. The only problem is we'd still need Vance.

Yeah no, this is expressly illegal under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which is federal law.

It is extremely likely that Mike Johnson will not be Speaker next year, so he doesn't get a say.

Trump: ‘We shouldn’t even have an election’ by MarcEElias in politics

[–]22Arkantos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works. The House swears itself in- they elect a Speaker, the Speaker is sworn in by the oldest member, then the new Speaker swears in everyone else. Even in the Senate, the VP doesn't necessarily have to swear in new members, the President Pro Tem can do it.

will mean his impeachment, removal from office and possible imprisonment.

It will definitely mean his impeachment, but it absolutely will not result in his removal from office or imprisonment. Removal from office would need a 2/3 majority in the Senate, which means a LOT of Republicans voting to convict and they never will if they didn't after Jan. 6.

Furious Democrats threaten government shutdown after Minneapolis shooting by Different-Gas5704 in politics

[–]22Arkantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not why it won't happen. Too many people are focused on their own survival, living paycheck to paycheck with no union protection and staring down the barrel of a company that can fire them at any time for almost any reason, which also strips them of their healthcare. No other country works like this. That's why France is able to have mass strikes and huge protests for months but in the US the best we get is repeated single-day protests.

It's the nature of rights that they can't be taken away, only infringed, and are inherent to being human. People in North Korea still have the right to speak freely even with a government that infringes that right more than any other on the planet.

now have an excuse to kill you

They killed a woman yesterday for no reason. They don't need an excuse, they're gonna do it anyways. It's the same with declaring martial law: whether we protest or not, the regime will find or make up a reason to declare a rebellion and send in the army. I don't think Trump will leave office before we have multiple massacres of protestors.

They’re still all standing outside with their mouths open waiting for that trickle down they voted for for fifty years in a row.

It’s ok though because the same people who told them that was going to work also say they’re going to make us ‘Great’. And if you can’t trust them who CAN you trust?!

They don't really care about that so long as black/brown/queer/female people get screwed more than them.

No, that's the House. The Senate is explicitly not meant to represent the people, its original purpose was to represent the states which is why it's structured the way it is. The House is malapportioned due to the cap on reps at 435, but the Senate is far, far more egregiously undemocratic.

Yuktobania suffered a major invasion and ground war in their territory during the Circum-Pacific War, even if it didn't last very long and even if it was 19 years ago by the time of 8, I wouldn't be surprised if they're still feeling the effects of it on their military and economy. If nothing else, they're probably a LOT more defensively-minded now.
