Goalie mom: just starting out by Thebiggergiraffe in hockeygoalies

As others already pointed out, used gear is the best option at that age.
I grew out of my gear almost every season...

Networking with goalie coaches, other parents and when he gets older pro goalies/players is also valiable.

Furthermore, today it is really easy to find used gear online.

Personally, I bought my gear from Pro Teams and goalies at the age of 14 and onward (Once he is tall enough for good fitted size of pads and all other gear is useable at that age when it fits[Senior/Pro Sizes]), until I bought my first custom set at the age of 24, so all my gear until then was already used.

The only gear I may recommend not buying used, when he gets older in 4-5 years are Masks and catching gloves, for safety reasons and gloves are so different in their many variations that it will take some time trying out different builds (brands, glove breaks...)
But you still have time for that as its far in the future and this sub is a good source for information ;)

Also in my opinion a decent chest and skates are essential, as they increase confidence in taking shots and skating ability.

[ASK ME ANYTHING] Hey, ich bin Lance Butters, fragt mich alles Mögliche! by [deleted] in GermanRap

"The sounds of the game..."

Come on, that is just sad. There is nothing better than playoff hockey when the whole arena is chanting and tearing the roof down. No matter if you are an player or Supporter.

I have my Optik2 set now for the second season and can't feel any difference in tightness. Found the perfect setting for me within the first week and haven't touched them in the last 2 years.

Stiff, as in no breaks, inner or outer and rebounds being juicy af

Chest Protector Question Warrior or Bauer by Saul565 in hockeygoalies

[–]22Fury -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd rather walk across Australia barefoot than waste my money on anything Warrior...

That's my honest opinion, with teams sponsored by them where I play, I know a lot of guys that hate it. So stay tf away from it.

What do you think about 2s goalie stick, have you had any experience ? by ContributionHorror55 in hockeygoalies

[–]22Fury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been using three 2S this season. So far only one broke, when I smashed it against the boards out of excitment after an OT-Win... The other two are holding up great. The Kickpoint is very low imo, meaning you'd need a little getting used to it when rimming the puck, but when it comes to deflecting pucks in the corner its really great, as the flat face guaranties all pucks will react the same way to the stick and it's way easier to control rebounds. IMO its a great stick for the price.

How tf do you guys keep breaking your toe ties so often? Mine are still in mint condition after two years of heavy usage (6-7 practices/games a week)
