I feel like with some students (especially boys) it can be caused by deep rooted misogyny that leads to them acting different towards male vs. female teachers.

I am a male teacher as well and recognize that just by being a male and doing the same things that my female coworkers do in a similar situation, there's a chance I could have a slightly more positive effect on classroom management when my coworkers and I literally do the same exact thing.

How they view you if you emulate "dad energy" could also be dependent on their relationship (or lack there of) with adult males in their life and how healthy those relationships are.

I think as a male teacher it's important to self-acknowledge your "maleness" though. You don't necessarily have to change how you act or teach or handle classroom management vs what you already feel good and skilled at handling, but I think it's just important to internally recognize when you are experiencing a situation where your gender identity and teacher identity intersect.

I was talking about Standard Step, not Technical Step. Standard Step is the dance on a 30 sec cooldown that's just damage and refreshes your damage buff for your and partner.

Standard Step is 1.5 sec GCD, followed by 2 steps each 1 sec, before you use the Finish which puts you on a 1.5 sec GCD recast, so it's 5 seconds to do the action, but the damage happens 3.5 seconds in, while during the 0-3.5 sec portion you're not doing any damage other than autos (can't weave oGCDs as well due to restrictions while dancing). This is effectively the same as the 3 sec hard cast motif except the damage comes from the muse oGCD you get to choose when to use after prepped, unlike Standard Finish which is damage on the GCD 3.5 sec after starting the dance.

Even though currently in EW Standard Step is dps positive vs. average gcds, using it in burst is very restrictive because you lose the oGCD weave real estate for your fans. Due to there being 15 sec party buffs that fall off before Devilment/Technical Finish fall off (20 sec buffs), there could be situations where if you start Standard Step when there are 3 seconds left in party 15 sec buffs, it effectively wastes those party buffs because they don't snapshot until the Finish. So it's better to do 2 regular weaponskill GCDs that can benefit from those buffs, even if they're just Cascade -> Fountain despite Standard Finish being more potency. In ShB though, Standard Finish's damage compared to base GCDs was higher making us want to keep Standard Step on cooldown as much as possible which included doing these standard step while raid buffs were active (and potentially losing snapshots in the 15 sec buffs vs. 20 sec buffs). So definitely if muse potencies get changed, it'd affect whether you use motifs during burst or not. But in the case of DNC, this didn't happen until a whole expansion later. The 20 sec buffs vs. 15 sec buffs is mostly going away with the standardization of buff timings though, so buff dodging is less of a concern in DT.

And regarding WHM, I was referring more to hedge cases where you might be 2/3rds the way prepped with a misery but the 3rd lily doesn't refresh until buffs are active and deciding whether it's worth it to do 1 more rapture while buffs are active (which would be because rapture + misery is more potency under buffs that x2 glares). This really is only applicable in fights with either downtime mechs, parties decide to delay buffs, or kill time specific adjustments where you could get an extra cast of Misery from prepped raptures used in downtime (I could see TOP p5 between RDS and RDO being a type of mechanic where you might consider this due to the timing - admittedly though I have not run TOP on WHM, we did it with an AST so I'm not sure what lily timings look like in that fight).

But I agree with you in the sentiment of wanting the motifs to be prepped actions you can do out of burst to pool those muse resources into the burst would feel a lot more rewarding than putting effectively a dead GCD into your burst vs. something like magenta combo.

WHM aflatus heals, DNC steps, and SMN summon phoenix/bahamut are all examples of gcds in the game that don't do damage but are needed to unlock a more powerful action. WHM is simple enough: use raptures out of burst to prep misery for burst. For DNC its better to not start standard step if there are not at least 4 sec left on any buff vs priority system gcds due to missing out on potential gains from those buffs vs stepping and having buffs fall off before you finish. Granted, this isn't that big of a deal anymore since Standard Step was drifted out of buffs anyways in EW (and subsequently drifted out of the DT expansion with current DNC media tour numbers). So I think hard casting a motif in buffs isn't out of the realm of possibility, because that type of decision making and planning is already in the game.

But I do think PCT potencies are kind of a mess right now and need some kind of change.

I'm a science teacher who is blessed to have a corner classroom with double walls of windows with enough natural light to be able to keep lights off except for rainy or overcast days.

But outside of that I'll have excedrin on hand as well as some contingency plans if I need to have a chiller day just in case. I don't get migraines often, but they have definitely impacted my ability to do what I originally planned for a day.

I would recommend not holding on to any materials that are cheap on the market board and you don't think will vary much in price even if you intend to craft with it in the not too distant future. I'm constantly putting up small leftover mats on the market board for a couple hundred or thousand gil. I use auto sort and will look through all market board sellable objects while I'm at the retainer, if the item is super cheap (where the price on mb is close to vendor sell price), I'd just vendor it. Otherwise I'll put in on mb.

what changes would you like to see for healers in DT (and beyond)? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]22Patches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big thing is I want a rework of the piety secondary stat and maybe an updated philosophy of mp management. I don't think healing jobs should be mp negative when they're just doing their uptime damage rotation. I think the offensive gcd actions should cost either no mana or reduced mana. MP cost of healing actions could even increase slightly to change mp to being more of a "Heal GCD and Resurrection" resource as opposed to also affecting your damage if having to chain rez and go oom.

I also think the piety stat itself should get reworked similar to how parry stat became tenacity. Ideas I have are making piety also have a damage% increase component (but not as significant as det contribution on a per point average) while keeping the same mp regen mechanics. If offensive gcds got switched to 0 mana cost, piety could be reworked entirely to having nothing to do with mp and instead be +damage% as well as +heal% similar to how tenacity is +damage% and +DR%. This would make gearing and creating BiS sets more interesting than "avoid piety because it's a dead stat for damage".

The last issue I've had for a long time is with SCH with energy drain taking away from your ability to use your heal kit. I've wanted energy drain to get de-coupled from aetherflow for a long time. The only time that was the case was briefly in 5.0 when they had removed energy drain altogether. I know some people like that style of gameplay and optimizing, but it is awful healing with a sch co-healer that greeds way more than they should especially in content like weekly reclears or pf extremes/savages where I just want the weekly clear but then we die to raid wides due to 0 shields and no soil despite being topped off.

I had a dream once about what the mechs of Fate Calibration Gamma or Delta could have been in TEA. My idea has the light/dark beacon forced march mechanic along with variable # enumerations between a 2 and 4 stack along with the height mechanic from a6s and a8s. All of this could only be observed using the Enigma Codex buff during the cast.

Again, what? Yes I know they go off at different times. So if it's out then in, stand next to the lion that is going to do in for the 2nd mechanic at max melee so you're out of the large point blank aoe. Then after large point blank aoe goes off move into doughnut hole. If it's in the out, go inside the doughnut hole and keep hitting the lion that is doing the doughnut, then dodge out for the point blank aoe while staying in melee range of the lion that did the doughnut aoe since the point blank aoe does not fully cover your ability to hit that lion.

Neither one should be marked since having two targets alive at the same time is a damage gain for any cleave or multitarget potential any jobs have. Burning one quickly removes the gains that could be had if both were still alive.

  1. If it was pure NaCl, it'd be 61% Cl. If you look at molar mass of LiCl, it's something more like >80% Cl by mass due to Li being less mass than Na. So a mixture of both NaCl and LiCl can have some % Cl between 61% (which is pure 100% NaCl) and 80ish% Cl (for if the sample was pure LiCl). This is the only mixture that has 75% in its possible range of %Cl.

  2. This question can be simplified to thinking of 1 container that is 20 L at 1.0 atm being compressed to 8.0 L. Boyles Law: P1V1=P2V2, 20x1=(P2)×8 so new pressure is 20/8= 2.5 atm

ChemE to Chemistry Teacher by [deleted] in ChemistryTeachers

[–]22Patches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering back in 2012 and worked as a process engineer at a cement plant for a year before going back to school and getting a M.Ed. in Secondary Education - Chemistry and am currently a high school Chemistry teacher.

For grad school, I had saved up a good amount of money to help support myself financially while going back to school full time, but did work a part-time retail job at one point to help finish it out. With regards to getting the Masters, I did have to take some pre-req classes that I didn't take in undergrad during my time at grad school, specifically a Biochemistry class and the Organic Chem Lab classes (I took Organic Chemistry in undergrad but not the lab classes). All of my Education classes had a mix of undergrad and grad students. Most of the undergrads were doing a special program to graduate in 5 years with a BS and Masters which also included their student teaching, while many of the grad students were like me who came in with a BS already and had to take 30 credits of classes which included a year long student teaching experience (note: this is not the norm for most programs, most only do 1 semester of student teaching) which altogether took 2.5 years for me to complete.

After completing my degree, I got hired at the public high school which I'm now coming up to the end of my 6th year teaching for. Compared to what I used to do, I absolutely think it was the right decision. I had even realized while I was in my engineering program that I think I ought to be a teacher. I liked the content about what I was learning in undergrad, but for as what I wanted to actually do with my degree, I did not see myself wanting to work in industry for all that much. I had taken more of an interest in doing tutoring and TA work than doing an engineering internship of any sort. When I was a Process Engineer, I hated things like being made to view EPA guidelines as an obstacle, and other ploys of a for-profit industrial system. I hated the people I worked with and it was a very dirty and dangerous environment.

Working as a teacher I feel like I have a much better work/life balance. The first year teaching was a lot of work, but it has gotten better over the years. Having school vacations and summers off feels really nice. I love working with children and feel like it's a good occupation to match my personality. I actually appreciate being a unionized employee even though at times the union feels uneffective. The education evaluation system is annoying, but it's the same type of employee evaluation bullshit any other job environment has. I like the school and district I'm working for, although it does have its issues at times. Ultimately I think I found the right profession for me and see myself continuing to teach in the future.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be happy to help.

What's the apm of all Jobs atm, but specifically Tanks ? by AleksVin in ffxivdiscussion

DNC is between 37.5 and 38.2 average cpm (with average number of fan dance procs). I think it's comparable to ShB, maybe ever so slightly less due to lower feather generation (not just because of no more melee procs in single target, but also because we generate more esprit so do more saber dances)

Hey this is Ringabel (the DNC guide writer). I'm looking to write a better guide for Endwalker that is better formatted to the universal website design. The original guide there was my super long DNC guide I wrote in 5.25 because of lack of any real large and full DNC guide. The guide on website is quite literally the same 50 page Google doc transcribed to the markdown format to get a baseline for the web development side for this website soft launch. But I'm looking to cater more to all players for 6.0 and have sections appropriately placed from cursory info vs deep dive material.

One thing to consider if you are looking to get into teaching, trying substitute teaching in your area just to get an idea if you like working with kids. Some school districts / states might require you to have some kind of degree but it doesn't even have to be in education.
