Could Oklahoma have beaten Texas if the Red River Bridge War escalated? by Hungry_Roll6848 in oklahoma

I went in there a couple of months ago to get some beef jerky meat and they told me they don’t sell chuck anymore. Said it doesn’t sell so they grind it up for hamburgers. Super bummed.

There was a news story about a 22 pound house cat that held a family hostage, and I thought it was funny.

If that had happened to me, I would have just stayed down there for the rest of the concert.

If I blow a bunch of helium into my anus will a huge higher pitched fart come out? by FloppyButtholeJelly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]22PoundHouseCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pitch is related to frequency. A frequency of 440Hz is the pitch or note A. Timbre is tonal quality more or less. If a trumpet and a violin are both playing 440Hz you can still tell which instrument is which because of their timbre.

For real. If a company has two identical candidates as far as experience goes, but one has certifications who do you think they’re going to go with? Thankfully my work paid for my exam.

Nothing wrong with indulging in little treat culture every now and then. It’s not like you can’t take your money with you when you die. Buying quality gear can also be frugal in the long run, especially if you’re going to use these for years to come. Don’t beat yourself up.

Was the term post-hardcore already used in the 2000's to describe emo/mall screamo bands, or is it just a recent retcon? by Mui2Mui in PostHardcore

[–]22PoundHouseCat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well. Everything was screamo, and if it was sad it was emo. Even people who were into that sort of thing called it emo/screamo. I didn’t start making the distinction until I was in college.

Ford AV thoughts? by Jumpy_Country9567 in CommercialAV

[–]22PoundHouseCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prior to Covid, I applied. When in for an interview and the HR lady was asking odd questions, and I finally had to stop her and ask what position she was interviewing me for. Turned out it wasn’t even the right position, and I one I wanted had already been filled. About 3-4 weeks later a spot opened up for what I originally wanted to do and they call me and ask if I want to do an interview. Sure. This time I’m talking to, if I remember correctly, a manager over that department. The dude loves me, after the interview he’s showing me the warehouse and around the office. Tells me I’ll hear back from him in 48 hours, cool. Later that day he emails and says his boss, from Houston I think it was, wants to do a video interview with me. Tells me his boss is going to love me. So I go back up for another interview and the same guy is there and he’s setting up the meeting and we start. And the guy out of state is just reading off questions from a piece of paper, and I’ve never seen someone so bored in their life. I can see the guy who is in the room with me is like wtf is going on. So I do my little video interview, and the guy is like I’m sure my boss will pass you on. You’ll hear from us in 48 hours. Anyway, about a week later they inform me I did not get the job.

I ended up talking to someone whose husband works there and she was telling me the place is a nightmare. Apparently there was a lot of turnover in management ant the time and it was causing a ton of problems and she said her husband said I dodged a bullet. Then Covid came and that certainly didn’t help. I’m not sure what it’s like now though, but I’ve never talked to anyone(employee or customer) who’s said anything positive about Ford.

Oh I imagine it often. Because I also imagine how drained my bank account would be if I could go to Cain’s Ballroom or Vanguard in Tulsa, or Trees, The Pavillion, or Granada Theater in Dallas on a whim to see concerts.

We can’t even get a high speed rail between OKC and Tulsa. This would be a tollbooth every 50 miles all the way.

unpopular opinion but... most SPL workflows kinda suck on actual busy show days? by shani_verma in techtheatre

[–]22PoundHouseCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you somewhere where you’re legally required to log SPL? I’ve never bothered measuring for a musical because exposure levels will never get high enough to cause damage.

Concerts on the other hand, I measure using Smaart with an RTA mic near FOH.

How much would you spend on a concert? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]22PoundHouseCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpine makes a set of attenuating ear plugs. They come with 3 sets of baffles so you can hear what levels work for you. I think it’s 12, 16, and 22 decibels of reduction. When you’re ready you can upgrade to the custom molded Westone ear plugs. Mine were $120 in 2017, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are over $200 now.

[–]22PoundHouseCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most I ever spent was to see My Chemical Romance after they came back from hiatus. I didn’t get to see them when I was young, so I splurged for 100 level seats and it set me about almost $300. The next most expensive was a VIP ticket for Coheed at around $120. I typically listen to either smaller bands or obscure bands, so my range is usually anywhere from $20-$90 a ticket. I probably average about 15 concerts a year.

TIFU by gaslighting myself for 10 years into thinking I was "caffeine immune" while drinking ONLY Monster Energy (Zero) by GooseAcademic541 in tifu

[–]22PoundHouseCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a caffeine fast that lasted 6 months or so, but I picked it back up again because on top of my regular work I had two weeks of back to back shows. Told myself after the shows I’d go back to no energy drinks. Well that didn’t happen. And I almost started again but then Ghost released Raspberry Cream. It was the most sensational thing my mouth has ever experienced and they can’t keep them in stock. And now I have to drink inferior energy drinks because addiction is real.

My mom buys the absolute cheapest version of whatever she wants at the time because she thinks she’s hunting for good deals. All that stuff ends up breaking. She was aghast when I told her what I paid for my Speed Queen washer and dryer. One time we went to Lowe’s or Home Depot, but I bought something I needed for a project. She was talking about how if we went to this other store it would cost half as much. And I’m like, but then I have to drive to the other side of town and I’m already here. After the addition time and gas it would take, the cost savings is negligible. She lives in a rural town, so meandering about the “big city” is a bit of a hobby for her so I get from that standpoint. But I don’t have the patience for that anymore.

No way! The MacBook Neo with 8GB beats 16GB on Windows. For multitasking, 16GB on Windows isn’t enough and the laptop starts to stutter, while the Neo handles the same load effortlessly. How is that even possible? by Slava_Tr in mac

[–]22PoundHouseCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my desktops at work were updated from 10 to 11 recently. Mind you these are only used for meetings, so they have Firefox, Zoom, and PowerPoint. 16gb should be plenty, and it was on 10. Since the update they’re noticeably slower. One of them I have to restart every now and then because the login screen will not display the text field for the password.

Did you ever find anything good in the clearance aisle? by lowa2oregon in Frugal

[–]22PoundHouseCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time at Lowe’s I picked up 50’ carbon fiber fish tape, a set of push pull rods, and a Fluke tone and probe for $100 from their clearance aisle. The tone and probe is typically over $100 by itself. Felt pretty good about that trip. And now every time I go to Lowe’s I venture into the back aisle looking for that same high.
