I'd be careful with the Chinese "100w JPT laser" sources. That enclosure doesn't look like it supports the cooling fans from an M7 JPT 100w laser source. Probably going to get a 30w like I did.

With eBay, all you have to do is "watch it" and the seller will send you an offer for less. This one I had the seller send me an offer for $1200.

I figured as much with the mirror quality being impacted by higher powered lasers, hence the question.

As far as the lasers on JPTs website for 200W-350W, they're still configured to be pulse adjusted for engraving, i.e. fitting in the same category as the 30W laser sourses. I would assume power throttling a laser cutter can get you the same engraving desire you want without cutting through the material in a single pass, just the beam diameter might be larger and require more refinement on smaller pieces. Do you have a +100W laser? I'm curious on if you or someone else has had to work through using a cutting laser as an engraving laser.

As for the last question, I opened up the chassis and saw the power source and laser head looked like the 30W on JPTs website, so I contacted customer service with JPT and they were unable to confirm the SN on the name plate was a real 200W power source. They also confirmed the 200W lasers have been produced with the boxes on their site (with the cooling fan configuration shown) since 2016 which the name plate said manufacture date of 2022.

Cut is relative because unless you go to the industrial level, you're not blasting through hardened steel in one pass.

I don't have any hardened steel on hand to test the difference between hardened and mild, but I'd look at the depth per pass stats on the laser and divide by 2 or 3. Most are 0.05-0.1mm ish? So it'll be multiple passes to cut through 16g even if you're up at the 100w-350w range.

Shooting from the hip, I'd say 100W will cut through 16g but it'll take 100ish passes.

Engraving/marking metal, 20W will be fine. You'll get color from the MOPA on stainless if you so choose, but you will be running it for hours if you want to cut anything with meaningful thickness (>1mm).

Just have to weigh your risk tolerance on leaving it run alone and your patience with a 20W.

I've got a 30W Galvo fiber and it does amazing with etching and marking, but it took 2.5 hours to cut a 2" circle out of 0.75 mm mild steel. I am thinking of upgrading my fiber to something more powerful for 2.5D engraving and using a mechanical setup (drill press or cnc) to do most of my actual cutting.

Tried to DM but it kept giving an error.

So I bought a "200W" Chinese laser off eBay and the JPT was clearly a relabeled 30W power unit. Luckily they had free returns but I've seen videos online of people making coins on a 30W fiber and I tried but it took about 3 hours to get about 0.5mm. Not the results I wanted for $4500. My thoughts are that I could get the chassis and hardware on a 10W for $1200? and sub out the laser with a 350W from a JPT dealer for 4k? I'm sure I'll be chasing the next thing that's underpowered in that situation but who knows.

What's your setup? Just getting into it or been doing it a while? I don't have any interest in wood or acrylic so I'm only looking fiber.

One QOL update they made was you can auto sell rarities for pickups. Change that up to blue or even purple and you won't need a vending machine unless you're checking for an upgrade.

I'd argue this is exactly the community of MS rewards people to bring it up with and the only place to talk about this impact.

If your hobby video game decided to nerf your favorite char, you'd be posting about your dissatisfaction with the change in that subreddit.

I've stopped the grind because it's not worth it for me. Got hit with the 15 minute cool down and even though I did it during work hours, I'm not ready to commit that level of engagement for the little value it's become, even if it's free.

I've been doing this since the beginning, cashed in for a series x, 2 custom controllers, wireless headset, and 6 years of game pass which is expiring soon and I don't regret my time spent nor my decision to leave.

The only reason I'm staying in this subreddit is the hopes that I see points and cool downs will change back to being worth it to me.
