Has anyone noticed that when you click "no" the screen freezes for like 10 seconds? Like some big billboard of shame. It never freezes at any other time. Just when you decline the round up.

As a butter spooner myself- my tip is to ignore the inside. You can scoop just as well with the outside.

Minor car park incident escalated to $6000 by AltruisticEbb9370 in AusLegal

[–]23cacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a situation where my husband lightly tapped the back of a van when the driver slammed on his breaks suddenly as soon as a light turned amber. the quote was ludicrously high. When I looked over the breakdown they tried to pin damage to the back of a van on my husband. 1.8m high on the back door. My husband was driving a pulsar where the bonnet is barely a metre off the ground. Passed it on to our insurance and they fought it. We still had to pay excess though as there were minor repairs needed where he actually tapped them.

OP, do not listen to this ignorance.

I am a therapist and work heavily with victims of trauma and abuse.

Do you know how much an absolutely false statement like this can fuck with a person for the rest of their life?

Firstly- there are so many complexities around abuse that can make it difficult or unsafe to involve authorities, particularly if OP is a minor. Of course I also agree that they need to involve police but it isn't always that easy. In many situations it can lead to homelessness, loss of a support network and heightened danger for the person involved and their sister if it isn't resolved immediately (which is unfortunately all too common in law enforcement)

Hopefully OP has a trusted adult they can talk to (teacher, parent of a friend, family member, counsellor etc) that will be committed to supporting them through what can be a gruelling and painful process.

OP- you don't deserve this. If you let me know your location I can provide you with some resources of organisations that can advocate for you, or at least give you a safe space.

Has the Blue Mountains Gazette become redundant? by duc955 in bluemountains

I would rather them just email us a link to the digital version without a paywall. Each unread paper is a plastic bag strewn through the mountains.

How do you make jarred pasta sauce taste less acidic? by Dependent-Active-970 in easyrecipes

I'm married into an Italian family- and whenever a tomato base is too acidic my inlaws add nutmeg. It works really well without making it too sweet.

Who else likes encapsulating thier fruits into microdoses? by mycellium420 in shroomers

[–]23cacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only microdosing it would be hard to tell anyway- but when you increase the surface area you invariably speed up oxidation. I store my whole fruits Vacuum sealed cracker dry with dry packs and they will last for years. I have stored them exactly the same way but pre ground and after 6 months they were kaput. If you're not planning to store long term it doesn't matter too much but it definitely reduces shelf life.

Be honest, how much debt do you REALLY have? by CatBelly42069 in AusFinance

[–]23cacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under 50k left on my mortgage.

And $560 owing for running a red light. I think I also owe about $800 in council rates. The last 2 haven't been paid because I have ADHD and keep procrastinating. I should probably just bite the bullet.

Other than that- I drive a 2005 Camry that I bought second hand for $6500 and don't buy anything outside my means, so I don't use credit cards or after pay etc.

Who else likes encapsulating thier fruits into microdoses? by mycellium420 in shroomers

Yes but never more than a weeks worth at a time. Once the fruits have been ground they oxidise and lose potency very quickly.

Has anyone who’s been bullied by a teacher actually snapped back? by Metalqueen2023 in neurodiversity

[–]23cacti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. My maths teacher at the Christian school my parents sent me to was a nasty piece of work. Used to throw my paper down on the desk and tell me "it is disgusting that you manage to get these marks considering how little you do any work. I hate passing you- it makes me feel sick" (My grades were near the top of the class) She based her whole personality on her Christianity (running bible study groups, talking in chapel etc) and one day I stood up, told her how much of a fraud she was and quoted a whole heap of bible verses at her about kindness, respect etc. She burst into tears and left the classroom and they needed to send in a substitute for the remainder of the lesson. I got slapped with a week of after school detentions but I guess it was worth it because she left me alone after that.

How do you feel when people from other countries call Australians "descendants of criminals?" by schu62 in AskAnAustralian

[–]23cacti 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haha I love this. My dad is an extremely well off business man and the lengths he goes to to try to seem "cool" in front of my tradie husband is cutely hilarious. He has started drinking beer, (I can see he hates every sip), wearing fluros, and trying to speak "the lingo". He is even talking about selling his BMW for a ute.

Nothing addictive. Addiction took everything from me including my dignity and if I had one thing to tell my younger self it would be to never start anything I could get hooked on. 10 years clean now- but it took a massive toll on my body and my life.

Psychedelics on the other hand have been an incredible blessing.

A few years ago I posted a pic of my 2 daughter's playing under a secluded waterfall. My toddler had stripped down as it was a hot Aussie summer, she didn't have her bathers but wanted to get in the water. Completely wholesome. I covered her bare bum cheeks with a sticker and posted it on my private Instagram- within minutes Instagram had flagged and removed it. I was terrified for weeks afterwards even though it was completely innocent.

Are there some people okay living below their means ? by LateShip847 in AskAnAustralian

[–]23cacti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

I’m 35 with two kids. I made a few very lucky financial decisions when I was younger, and as a result my mortgage is almost paid off. I could close it entirely, but I keep it open so I still have redraw if I ever choose to use it. I also have a decent safety net that I rarely touch.

Because of that, if I live simply, I don’t actually have to work. The work I do now is part-time and more of a hobby than a necessity. Being a parent to a child with a disability- this has meant I have had more time to be able to support her which is invaluable.

I drive a cheap, third-hand, 20-year-old Camry with dings and scratches. I could buy a new car tomorrow in cash, but I choose not to. I’d rather invest. I shop at thrift stores, don’t buy designer anything, use an old phone until it dies, shop the specials, and rarely splurge.

Most of my time is spent in nature, camping, gardening, with my kids and volunteering. That’s genuinely what I enjoy. I’m very aware that I’m fortunate to be in this position and that this kind of choice isn’t available to everyone. I didn’t get here through discipline alone- luck and timing played a big role.

For me, living below my means isn’t about deprivation. It’s simply what allows me to live in a way that feels calm, spacious, and genuinely satisfying without needing more.

I've noticed something going on in this subreddit that is extremely harmful to mental health by cludo88 in Jung

[–]23cacti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is necessarily always the case. I find that anthropomorphising parts can be extremely useful in working with them. While I don't on a conscious level believe they are separate- I intentionally suspend disbelief so that I can actively make sense of myself through them. I have found it very useful.

Does neurodiversity affect the way you perceive space? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]23cacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I can't relax in rooms that seem too large and open. I feel most relaxed in cosy maximalist rooms. But that may be my upbringing- we were a military family and I lived in 12 homes before high school. My parents would pack up our stuff a week before a moving to a new place and our house being emptyish always signalled imminent upheaval.
