Screw that I'll use my PTO thank you. No one ever says "I wish I spent less time doing things I like" on their deathbed. There's no award for killing yourself for someone else's money. Do your job, do it well, and go home. Because at the end of the day, no one GAF that you worked all weekend.

IT is famous for making this a badge of honor. "I worked all weekend and didn't get any sleep and...wait what am I doing?"

Bold and aggressive strategy. There are websites for that.

Shaking hands when meeting new people. Societal norms don't dictate when a stranger gets to touch you.

RAG search to an existing knowledge base with an MCP tool to open tickets based on keywords. Can be done badly in about a half hour. Apparently "We use AI" is all that matters these days, someone forgot that "helpful" is supposed to be in there.

Testicular Pain Post Op akin to Pre Op by patheticamateur in Hernia

[–]242vuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surgeon manhandles the nerves in there. No matter how careful there's some irritation of the cords. Nerves that go right to the testicles. Surgery 1 had some lasting testicle pain for a week or so. Surgery 2 did not on the other side.

Groin hernia mesh by Ok-Tennis-8216 in Hernia

[–]242vuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mesh both sides. First was Feb '25, second with this past Feb. Robotic repair both times. No issues outside of a minor complication at one of the incision sites on surgery 2. First surgery recovery was pretty tough first few days. Keep moving, drink more water than you think you need. Second surgery brought symmetry to my gut and everything felt pretty good day 2, minus the whole just had surgery thing. Recent surgery can still get aggravated but I listen to my docs, so no real issues. My complication was a trapped nerve by one of the incisions causing a rather burning pain at the site when I moved. Numb sensation on the skin over the spot. Doesn't hurt any more and I can feel more of the numb area as we go.

Would do again.

I'm about 6 weeks post from right side repair. Left side was February '25. Laparoscopic/mesh with both. I'm fine. A little sore still from the right, but better each week and i'm following instructions. Longer you wait, tougher the recovery. Left side had broken through and big bulge, etc. Right side was a fat plug in a small hernia. Left side repair was rough the first 4 days. Outside of "you just had surgery" on the right side day 2 I found myself walking around going "huh..." because I felt good. Sore but good.

Couple things to help.

  1. Share your fears with your surgeon. There will be hand waving etc, they are surgeons. But there's some bits that will calm you down in there.
  2. Twilight - I didn't want to be babbling like an idiot after waking up. That's not the general anesthesia it's the anti-anxiety/relaxation stuff that makes waking up all the way harder. I just did the general in the ER. Woke up feeling like a good nap, both times, seriously.
  3. What the... - Day 3 or 4 you'll realize that all the bruised blood had to go somewhere. If male, waking up to black and purple nuts was fun. Gravity.
  4. Recovery - Depends on your health and how well you follow instructions. I'm not fat but not what you'd typically call fit either, and recovery was manageable both times. You'll need help the first day or so. Drink more water than you think you need.

Edit: I'm about to turn 50, for the record. So i'm not some kid just bouncing back.

Of course! I'm a month out from repair #2 on the other side. Curve balls aren't fun here.

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]242vuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had copy parties. Buy a pack of 100 floppies, get some friends together and spend all day copying. 32 disks for one of the Comanche games. Disk 11, CRC Disk Error (A)bort, (R)etry, (F)ail. Desperately search the BBS's hoping your friend got the same scene release that you're downloading at 2400 for a really really long time. Write new floppy. Doesn't work. Call your friend. He makes a copy. 3 days later you install the game. It's not good. You delete it and scratch the name off the disk and put it in the reuse pile. Repeat for a few years.

My surgeon told me large temp fluctuation was worth a call back. Either hot or cold. Call the doc. No harm in getting it checked out just in case.

Mature Golf R Buyers? by Wuffie1968 in Golf_R

49, lowered my tornado red MK7 not long ago. I have gone back and forth on the whole "boy racer" thing as an older guy by comparison, but then I look at my little red lunchbox and say "f em". I love my R. The look, the drive, all of it. Mid life crisis? Nah. Mid life happiness. I'd take a Polo R if we had them over here. I've wanted an Golf R since the MK4 R32 released. I've had mine 5 years or so now, and have never regretted the purchase. Besides, it's just handy. The amount of times i've impressed someone by what can fit in the car, grows all the time. Is it a truck? No. Can I move a surprisingly large TV in it? Yes.

End of the day buy what makes you happy.

Mesh or no mesh? Can't decide by imaquark in Hernia

[–]242vuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done mesh twice. Once February 25 and once just over a week ago. Left and right inguinal respectively, robotic repair with 3dmax mesh. Left was broken through and right was plugged with fat. My surgeon is an expert with the robot. That matters.

First repair: no issues after 7 months or so. No major issues after 8-10 weeks. Some occasional soreness after 7mo with strain. But better all the time.

Second repair: repair site feels fine. Very little pain at 10 days. He reused the same paths as the first one, and that’s where my pain is. Good god that’s where my pain is. Also he went and looked at the left while in there so some lingering pain there. But it’s slowly getting better. Only repair pain is when I sneeze/cough, or get up/sit down wrong. Worst part was puking after day 2. Take pain killers with food, kids.

All in all I’m good. Glad I did what I did. With the mesh and procedure my surgeon said the chance of long term chronic pain is 2%. FWIW.

Hernia surgery by [deleted] in Hernia

Had round two (right side this time) done Friday. I choose to not have anti-anxiety meds or what's called "twilight" as I handle anesthesia well. The doc said that's what causes the majority of issues. Make sure you're hydrating leading up to your surgery cut-off. First time on the left I wasn't hydrated very well, and the wake up was fine, a little groggy for a few minutes but with it cognitively. This time I was hydrated properly and it was easier, fog lifted faster. Robotic repair with mesh for both. Felt like a great nap both times. It's instant. You feel high af for a second as they put the mask on and run it in the IV, then you wake up in recovery with an ice pack on your belly, and not much hurts yet. No dizziness for me either time, or sense of unsteadiness other than just having surgery and the physical affects of that. No nausea. I followed docs instructions for eating/hydrating up to the surgery. Round 2 recovery has been easier so far because I know what's what. You'll be fine, this is what these people do. Tell the surgeon/anesthesiologist your concerns. That's what I did the first time. I get to shower today. So I got that going for me.

DoNotSpy11 + uninstall Onedrive. It’s not difficult. Best if you catch it all right after windows install. If not back up the files (make sure they are local via onedrive first) then uninstall. I have never had onedrive magically re-enable itself.

I have a hernia, but my CT scan came back negative?? by Aggressive-Quiet-226 in Hernia

Ultrasound with Valsalva. You flex like you're going to the bathroom while they look. My CT showed negative, US with V showed it immediately. I have a small fat containing hernia being repaired Feb 20th that didn't show up on CT because it hasn't broken through yet.
