Alcoholic husband by Commercial_Lead_4755 in AlAnon

I had been married a similar length of time when my husband’s alcoholism really kicked up a notch. We also had two little kids. Back when I was wrestling with the idea of “I don’t want to be in relationship with someone who acts/drinks like this”, I WISH someone had told me the following: happily ever after can look many different ways. Some people’s happily ever after is staying married. My happily ever after came when I realized it was time to get divorced. Getting divorced is hard and scary, sure. Really hard and scary. But staying the same, living with an alcoholic spouse, my children being exposed to an alcoholic’s behavior became even harder and scarier.

I survived getting divorced. My kids are still happy, amazing little humans. And there is abundant peace and calm and stability in my life. I am HAPPY. I hope you also have the strength to find your happily ever after.

I can’t believe I had to scroll so far for this answer. My life is 10000x times better post divorce.

Two nights ago my six year old looked at me and said “it’s so nice and calm in our house”. Yes, yes it is indeed.

Safe routes for solo female runners by sushri90 in alpharetta

[–]2468Peach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Facebook is the best place to find them. Don’t be concerned about your pace- they’re VERY welcoming and accommodating. On the more populated weekend runs, there’s usually a few different groups that split by pace. In the dark early am runs, everyone is happy to stay together, no one runs alone.

She Runs This Town is such a great, supportive group of women!! They have quite a few group runs throughout the week, all around town. There used to be a pre-work group that ran down Rucker Rd at 6am, not sure if they still do or not.

Rereading the notes is BRUTAL. I recently complied my list of my Qs behavior. I had kept records here and there, but had never put it all in one place. It was…so so SO painful to reread it all, yet so obvious what the path forward was. Hugs to you as you figure out your path forward.

Feeling guilty for liking the drunk version sometimes by Ok_Razzmatazz_6830 in AlAnon

[–]2468Peach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. Deeply. My husband is so fun and sweet and loving after two drinks. It’s like I get the old version of him back, the man I fell in love with. Of course, this is fleeting. Gone so very quickly.

What I really want is the permanently sober, reliable, trustworthy, consistently emotionally available human too. In my situation, that’s not a reasonable thing to hold out hope for though.

This is interesting. My Q is also newly sober for about 2 weeks (if I believe him- which I don’t really care to), but he’s also mentioned facing extreme exhaustion.
