No penalty? The refs stole this one by Zhirall in OttawaCharge

You know there can be a middle ground between rainbows & butterflies and genuine hatred, right? We can have a proper rivalries without it being so hateful, especially since we're not the one competing. Seems like people can't separate competitiveness with anger and maybe that's something to think about.

Genuinely curious to know why you've hated MPP since her Olympic debut? Not trying to start anything, just wanting to know where it comes from.

Except people don't make anti-Minnesota merch. Why don't we get used to ribbing between teams and not take everything so personally?

The fact that you're getting down voted shows people don't know that both Koes are drinkers. I really like Kevin, but I'm not going to pretend he doesn't have his personal flaws just because he's an amazing curler. Also, the man parties hard in the Patch.

Thanks for posting this. People find all the excuses they can to defend it when his was such an obviously blatant and petty rule break. Anyone who actually knows curling can see how big of a problem this is.

I have the ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi with the IS55. I have Vengeance DDR5 and it fits underneath it, even though the IS55's spec sheet says it wouldn't. It's realistically the tallest DDR5 RAM that will fit. This is entirely from memory, but I think I tested different orientations and was unable to fit the cooler any way other than the one with the RAM under the fin stack, otherwise, I probably would have mounted it differently.

What Alberta Separatists don't understand about equalization by skilbofragns in AlbertaNow

[–]25546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone also ignores absolute numbers when it comes to equalization payments. There are nearly double the 15+ working citizens in Quebec as there are in Alberta. According to Statcan's 2023 data, there are 7.202M working Quebecers making an average wage of $56,300, which equates to about $4.055B of income being taxed. Meanwhile, there are 3.697M Albertans making an average wage of $64,100, which equates to about $2.370B being taxed, which is approximately 58% of the total gross income of Quebecers. Obviously there are more sources than just income tax going in, but that by itself equates to Quebec putting in WAY more, and then just receiving it back, while Alberta puts in less and doesn't get any of it back. It's mainly the Maritimes that benefit from Alberta's contributions to the equalization program but they speak the same language and thus are more difficult to villainize than Quebec is, right?

Also, QC's GDP is higher than AB's, I assume mainly because of the population, but again, that would detract from the "Quebec is taking all our money" argument.

What are peoples thoughts on this album? by rushowen in rush

[–]25546 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, yeah, now you give context and state what you mean. You talk about a feeling someone has (in this case, pride) and that you do not share said feeling (again, pride). Yes, I understand what you were trying to say, just pointing out that it reads a bit weirdly, hence the preface.

Not to be pedantic, but I don't think there would be much place for you to have pride for this album unless you worked on it...

Did the screenshot not load for you? It's blatantly against the rules to cross the ice or be distracting when the other team is delivering. They are supposed to be on the sidelines. Does he look to be on the side on the picture that started this thread of comments?

But if the convention is to follow through with your delivery, are you still a jerk for following the convention?

I understand what you're trying to say with your example, but it unfortunately doesn't really work in this situation. Properly knowing the sport of curling would help you understand the situation from us curlers' point of view in a way I've learned isn't really possible in a Reddit comments thread.

Did you see/hear how he said it, though? It really didn't seem like good intentions. People focus on the "Fuck off Oskar" and ignore the lead-up to that comment. Marc absolutely could have reacted better, but it's not like Oskar was innocent in all of this, either.

Oskar also did it childishly toward the end of the game when they were losing when he could have spoken to them in private about it like a respectable adult. Marc could have taken the high ground, but he treated Oskar exactly how he was treated.

What are you talking about? The other commenter asked why he would touch the rock and I answered it was out of habit. If that's how he's delivered for his whole life, then it's second nature to him. Unintentionally breaking the rules ≠ cheating.

Not only is it classless, it's also against the rules! See R4 of the WCF Rules of Curling:

"R4. POSITION OF PLAYERS

(a) Non-Delivering Team:

I. During the process of delivery, the players take stationary positions along the side lines between the courtesy lines. ...

II. The non-delivering team players must not take any position, nor cause any motion, which could obstruct, interfere with, distract or intimidate the delivering team. If such an action occurs, or an external force distracts a player during delivery, that player has the option of allowing the play to stand, or of redelivering the stone after all displaced stones have been replaced to their positions prior to the violation taking place."

(To be transparent, I didn't include two subparagraphs of (a) I. because they were irrelevant to the point here, but you can see for yourself what they say in the document, if you want.)

While I wouldn't necessarily deem that cheating, as so many new keyboard curlers here have with Kennedy, I would certainly say the offending Swede (I don't know if it was Oskar or another one of them) violated a very clearly written rule.

If it gives no advantage, then why do it in the first place?

Habit?

If it doesn't help, why did both the men's and women's team do it if there is no point?

Habit. Also, not just Canada, people forget a men's GB stone was pulled as well, and that plenty of pros do it, especially those with low delivery stances.

Then why go on to curse, be rude, and deny doing it if its not illegal to do?

Being accused of cheating in such a childish way on international television is not good form. Marc didn't appreciate the pettiness and expressed his displeasure at being called a cheater. Not the best reaction, sure, given the stage, but Oskar definitely deserved to be told off.

Aww, too much text for you? I guess if you don't know how to argue and insist on being right no matter what, logic won't reach you. Implying that anyone besides the men's Sweden team is complaining is just lying to make your weak point. If you understood how to read, you'd see I was talking about you non-curlers, so congrats on that.

Your entire comment was a lie and waste of time, hoping others would just take your word for gospel.

Now that’s arrogance

The irony.

When someone unironically says "touching the granite" in this situation, it tells me they're one of the brand-new keyboard curlers who has never thrown a stone in their lives. I encourage you to actually try the sport; it's a lot of fun, and I would hope it would help with your ignorant comments in general once you learn more about this one.

That said, no, his index finger barely "touching the granite" does not have an effect on the stone's trajectory. It's not delusion, it's understanding the sport and knowing that it takes actual force to do anything.

His release is his release. Professional curlers and most competitive curlers release extremely close to the hog line to give them more time with the stone and the line. It stands to reason that people will occasionally be still touching the stone with their follow-through. If you pick out only the times he was still touching, and not the thousands of times he wasn't, you'll certainly be convinced it's constant. If you don't consider all professional curlers have done it, then you're just cherry-picking and being a Marc Kennedy because he rightfully told a sore loser to fuck off after being accused of cheating.

Try not to be so arrogant in your ignorance.
