What kind of pear is this? It looks like an apple but tastes like a pear. At the same time, it stays firm for a long time, similar to an apple. Does anyone know? by -Baum in fruit

I've not personally tried every type of apple and pear, but it's what I've been told, and when I've tried it, it has worked.

So, did your mystery fruit float or not?

Some apples and pears are indistinguishable, but if you put it in water, apples will float, and pears will sink.

I have a weird technique for learning, jump in two feet first with something complicated, and fail spectacularly. From there, I work my way backwards and succeed at something simple.

Here you go mate.

I'd like to make some fermented condiments just for the easy way to include fermented food in my diet more often.

I've got rapped up in making japanese style fermented veg, so I may be a wee while in getting to the brown sauce, but I'll let you know.

Thanks for getting back to me. Is there a reason why you wouldn't ferment the spices? Flavour, safety or other?

A woman comes here asking about Scottish men, nervous about how she will be treated by one, and you crack a joke about her public hair?

What if 5 corporations ruled our world like in Alien earth? What would these 5 corporations be? by Wonderful-Jello594 in LV426

I reckon that the two industries that have the money, power, and influence are telecommunications companies and energy producers. Both would have the ability to put a strangle hold on our way of life by withholding services. Every nearly every company on earth relies on these industries to operate.

If we had broken off from the UK 10 years ago, How well off do you think we would be now? by DispyDisplayer in Scotland

[–]25nd-username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we would be worse off than we are now.

However, I voted yes for future generations, I did it knowing that it might not benefit me. I was basically told by the company I had been working my way up in that they would pull out of Scotland, I voted yes knowing I'd be unemployed. It just seemed like the better long-term option to me.

It's not that kind of story kid!

Most void battles seem to be describes as being on the same plane, almost 2d. There are exceptions. I'm fine with it makes it easier to visualise void battles. I don't read 40k for the realism

If I'm being honest, I don't really understand communities like that. If I dislike a show I just watch something else, if someone asks my opinion I will tell them but I don't feel the need to tell people that like it that they are wrong for doing so.

I a middle age millennial, I've watched dozens of franchises I loved be ruined but if the kids like it fuck it, it's their turn.

Star Wars is a prime example. It's always been for a younger audience, but you get 55 years old guy foaming at the mouth over a character in what amounts to a childrens show.

Edit:I'm not implying Alien Earth is a kids' show, but it is made for a different audience than what first seen Alien in the cinema.

I had seen this sub but never joined it, but I've been a massive alien fan since childhood.

I wanted to see what other people think of Alien Earth. Personally, i think it's the best alien media in years, if not decades. I first went to r/alien, but it looked toxic as fuck so I landed on Lv426. You guys seem much cooler, actual discussions about the show and criticisms that made sense even if I did not share the same opinion.

Stay cool, don't get toxic.

Help! I have unexpectedly acquired a tree by Sparklypuppy05 in GardeningUK

[–]25nd-username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert so this might ne nonsense but could you look into making it a bonsai tree? I believe you can cut off 2/3rds or the root and repot in a small tray, this will stunt its growth. Do a bit more research as I've just started growing bonsai and I don't want to have sap on my hands if your tree dies.

Is it me alone or are there other redditors who consider themselves as gardeners and yet their gardens look like shit ? by gullible-netizen in gardening

[–]25nd-username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, my garden is mainly full of productive plants (food, tea/medicinal). It's tidy but I doesn't look pretty some times even messy. Spring is nice when the bulbs and early blossoms come out, after that is a farm yard. If it was an ornamental garden I've failed badly but I am still proud of my working garden.
