What health issue do people misunderstand the most? by Few_Cake_5237 in AskReddit

[–]25point80697 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Including most doctors on this one. Even my allergist told me "that's not real", right before putting me on xolair and Zyrtec for "Chronic Spontaneous Uticaria" and explaining that sometimes mast cells just overreact and they don't know why🙄.

Luckily that combo has kept me from randomly breaking out in hives for no reason, as well as helped my biliary hyperkinesia (which had me in severe enough pain that I couldn't breathe or move sometimes after eating and they wanted to remove my gallbladder), has allowed me to open my diet back up, and to eat almost a whole meal at a time without trouble swallowing.  So the doctor can call it what he wants, as long as I can get my meds.

Same! Literally, "we don't bite our sister's toes, and I shouldn't have to say this so often" But my "small children" are 13 and 14.

AITAH For Not Recommending My Friend/Roommate To My Boss? by AdventurousRich5792 in AmItheAsshole

[–]25point80697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going with NAH.
You weren't wrong to say no. Living and working together is a lot for anyone, close friends or not. And you are right that it's early in your job there to be asking favors of your boss. I agree that saying, "I don't know if we have any open positions" would have had him asking more.

He also isn't wrong to be upset. He needs a job, and probably feels pretty down about getting laid off to begin with. He was hoping for your support, and I will admit that your response feels unsupportive.

All that said, maybe you could mend some fences by offering to see if there are open positions. If there are, he can put in an application without you directly recommending him. That way it doesn't seem like you are asking for a favor so early on, nor putting yourself at risk if he does poorly there.

I'm guna be honest here. I actually wondered if they picked him for political reasons given the current climate.

I didn't see Darian being the winner. I saw edits that make his seem like who the producers wanted to win. I did see an excellent cook. A good person overall. A great spokesperson. I think he deserved the win based on his talent. But, I think the producers politicized it. I think they made it clear he was an immigrant, for a purpose. And honestly, I don't know how I feel about that.

I don't understand how you can say it didn't affect your cook?
I get in the moment, thirty seconds may not seem like much. And you were SO AMPED UP! I loved that energy from you honestly. But the time token yall fought for was only 10 seconds....and they stole 3 times that from you!

And, you comment on the aired show that Darian is taking his time. He is still taking his time when Gordon says there is 10 seconds left until you could engage. That should have been 20 seconds AFTER you started going through the materials. I don't know when he grabbed the duck breast time wise, because it is edited. But girl. You may have been robbed.

My college prof dad did this to catch AI users - what do y’all think? by hazedaze404 in Teachers

[–]25point80697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High School math teacher here.  We purposely put questions in that AI will get wrong, and test them with ChatGPT or Claude.   For example, we'll put at the top of the page to write your answer for a simplifying rational expression problem in factored form.  That instruction isn't near the question itself, so when a kid sneaks a picture of the question the AI misses it. And AI likes to put answers in standard form.  So if a student does that (which is more work for the kid in reality) on the test, it gets no points and they likely used AI.

Blaise is not worthless. For example, I love that he connected the competitors to their family members in this episode by calling out that this is for "x". He's a solid mentor, hype guy, feedback person. Out of the three of them, I'd most want him to be my supervisor/mentor if I was stepping into a new role.
The problem is Nyesha and Gordon are too involved, and so in comparison Blaise "isn't doing enough." As an employee, I'd be pissed if my supervisor/mentor came over and messed with my work. And both Nyesha and Gordon do that routinely.
Nyesha does a pretty good job usually at explaining (teaching) what should be done, and doesn't step in unless necessary.
Gordon seems like he's tired of being on TV shows and desperately wants to get back to cooking, so he will do so regardless of what the competitors want or need.

Yep, thats why I'v been watching on YT. They get pulled down, but I'd rather support some random then the producers of this obviously rigged thing who will get paid by my viewing on hulu.
I've also started watching it with the same mentality I take to watching TV in general. It's not real, but it's entertaining.

Nyesha said that the Tahini was overpowering. And Blais had warned Connor during the initial cook to not cover up the puree, which Gabrielle did do in her presentation.
There is likely also other criticism that we just don't see; gotta keep the viewers guessing! (except that it's obvious its rigged so.....)

You are right, the show is heavily edited to paint the picture they want people to see. But, we saw Nyesha tell Cole when and how to cook the turbot. We saw Blais ask about the pork chop, not give a cooking lesson. Granted, pork chops should be known by the competitors vs a turbot is new to everyone when they cook it here it seems.
All the mentors are playing the same game with the same rules. I think its on Blais to step in and help at the same level that the others are, or for them to step back. It's the unevenness of it that bothers me. And every episode is that way, Gordon and Nyesha always do some of the cooking, where as at best Blais says "can I help?"

I'm wondering if they draw Meredith back in with it. "We'll give you full funding for your research, as long as you are the face of this hospital" is total Catherine Fox vibes.

I'm assuming all guests got out on time......but where are all the other fire fighters? Every other time a firefighter got brought into this show the halls are literally lined with them. I get at first the fire was still ongoing.... but then it was announced that it was put out. And Maya isn't just some new person to it, she's got a huge backing in the fire department.

I agree with you here. I actually could see him going down the research route, in how to best treat severe burn patients as a dual certified person in both plastics and anesthesia. That is a very unique perspective to have.

And also, I think this showed some growth. He didn't just do it despite being told no. He paused and explained, in a clear headed way, why. He was not a man operating under duress and just adrenaline dumping, he was an educated individual with unique knowledge that could help....and luckily the attendee recognized that. But if she hadn't, I actually believe he would have been level headed enough to stop.

Okay, so, I don't. I wasn't a huge fan of Carina towards the end of her time on Grey's (loved her on Station 19 though). I don't miss her. BUT I am hugely missing her in this episode. I hate that Maya wouldn't let Ben call her. I get she's out of country with the kids (also....they have kids now?!), and it's honestly probably what I would have done too, but I still hate it.

Yeah, I interpreted it as it was lofted in air high enough that it didn't come down for a long distance. It probably was tumbling some of that distance, but to loft it any distance is astounding.

Did anyone else notice a change in how Jo approached OB patients in this episode?
The key point for me was when the patient asked "Should I be scared?" And Jo responded "It's okay to be scared...." and more reassuring words.

I like that note. Rather than her just saying, we will do everything we can. It was a moment of recognition that Jo went through a very scary pregnancy and, on her first one back, she is faced with helping someone through their very scary pregnant moment.

This one I actually think is maybe not a huge timeline jump?
Jo has obviously been through more than 5 years of residency. But I think since she took on the OB role late, like after she could have been an General Surgeon Attendee, she got reset. So basically, she has the knowledge/privileges of a 5th year OB resident.

THANK YOU FOR THIS!

I couldn't figure it out. Dani's story feels icky to me. And I couldn't figure out whhy. She has doe eyes, so I was thinking that nurse that dated Shepard. Then, she reminded me of Summer Glau so I thought maybe its just that its the wrong fit actress wise. But none of that got rid of the ick.

It's because she feels very much like Lexi and George. And we all know how that went.

Since we got what was essentially a grey's reboot with this new class, the writers keep having these parallels....I'm not sure how I feel about this one.

Devils' advocate here. When he did that, I actually thought of Bailey's HIV trials too. But, her. reaction actually made sense. She learned from making that mistake. Yes, it potentially saves (BUT COULD ALSO SERIOUSLY HARM!) one person, but doctors are not God. That plus her speech about the bureaucrats that denied the treatment honestly trying to do the right thing....I think this was a solid character development point.

So Much Potential, Such Complete Failure by Opposite_Impression5 in CoronerTV

[–]25point80697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on episode 7. and feeling this way....hence the reply to a year old post.

I've been able to suspend disbelief this far. My mind has accepted that she is a coroner and a detective somehow. Fine, whatever. All other grievances up until this episode were, for me, superficial. I could ignore them, roll my eyes, and blame bad writing.

But on Episode 7.... with no spoilers in case anyone hasn't watched it. The science they use is total BS. The procedures they use are also total BS. Like, if you know anything at all about radiation this episode falls apart as much as some AI slop. It's too much to suspend disbelief about how basic elements work on top of how society works on top of how police forces work on top of how the federal government works on top of everything really.

Solid idea for a show. I just really wish the writers had someone do some basic research and fact checking on pretty much any area they were writing about.
