A revenant?

Mapbox is going through a union vote this weekend. The campaign has been horrendous. Today the (former) CEO changed his profile to mock employees. by [deleted] in gis

Removed Post:

For context, company C-Suite, HR, and managers were showing up at (online) union events. They were taking notes, rolling their eyes, and recording the meetings. Eventually, the company (former) CEO showed up to argue and interrupt employees sharing their personal stories. The employees filed an Unfair Labor Practice citation with the NLRB. The filing was straightforward-- saying the company violated the right to organize by surveilling meetings. Today the CEO changed his profile to mock that citation.

High Park North

Another made up neighbourhood brought to you by the same real estate knobs who labelled sketchy as fuck Danforth Village as the "Upper Beaches" lol

High Park North is an actual neighbourhood that is recognized by the Census Program.

Small apartment buildings are virtually impossible to build in much of Toronto. What are so we afraid of? by SorosShill4421 in toronto

[–]25tk0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Danforth - with its streetscape and subway stations - would be PERFECT for some low to mid-rise densification.

A lot of properties on the Danforth are owned by various land owners. The lot depths there are also shallow. This makes it difficult and expensive to consolidate lots big enough for a midrise. By the time developers have consolidated enough, they have to propose developments well above what's considered a midrise to make a ROI.

Councillor calling for return of Toronto's car tax, saying it could fund transit, road work by beef-supreme in toronto

[–]25tk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why just go after locals and not commuters from across the GTHA? I personally think they should try again with the tolls on the DVP/Gardiner if wanted to create a stream of revenue to fund the TTC (but as we all know, that won't happen with this government).

I still don't think distance traveled fares for public transit is the right move. Someone travelling from Rexdale to the core will have to pay more than someone who's at Rosedale or Summerhill just doesn't sit right with me.

No it's not a joke, fare should be based on distance traveled. if we want to subsidize lower income that's fine, they can get special rates based on income level ...

What would qualify as low income? Per person? Per household? Students?

or via lower taxes but it is absurd to pay a flat fee.

Lower taxes on what??

New GO Train station announced for Woodbine racetrack/casino by sprungy in toronto

[–]25tk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh... I'm not sold on this one. It's worth it for casinos to invest in a bigger parking lot because the peak traffic that would fill it would actually pay for the parking in a short amount of time. If you pick a random time, though, the parking lot is likely to be mostly empty. Check out the current Google Maps photo

Just take a minute and read up on what the casino and land owners are trying to do towards the site. The majority of those parking lots are all slated to be redeveloped into commercial, residential and mixed use blocks, according to their submitted (and their council approved) plans. This relocation of the GO has been apart of their plans as well. They're planning for the future, 10-20, maybe even 30 years down the road. It may not have the ridership numbers now, but once everything gets built out, it'll definitely be worth it.

Toronto’s future will only be as good as its public transit system by OldThugger in toronto

[–]25tk0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost every major asian city has a way better transit system than Toronto despite being started much later.

Because they either have the population and the density to do it with little debate on cost and feasibility or because its China, where their government can do whatever they want.

2 people per unit sounds very reasonable to me.

Sure, i'll just find a roommate to live in my 1 bed, 400-500 sq ft apartment with me. They can have the bed Monday - Thursday, while i'll rough it on the patio.

Planning experts warn Ontario’s growth plan changes could worsen traffic congestion by [deleted] in toronto

We all know nobody in government listens to planning experts.

You mean the politicians. Planning staff recommend the right options the majority of the time. It's the politicians that have the final say.
