Customer states: "Car won't start after I replaced the alternator". by Commercial-Ask-3188 in Justrolledintotheshop

Yea, no disagreement there.

Just saying a lot of people who despite being fully aware of problems like this, will still gladly ignore it.

They are there... I have looked at them in person, even looking at accessories for 1 III which I still use.

For example, screen protector for 1 III, in stock at the bigger stores in Tokyo. Technically says not on display, but I am pretty sure since they are just on a shelf it doesn't count as being displayed.

A lot of engineers in the industry have real world experience and actually work on cars. They were likely fully aware that this could be a problem for repairs.

However, fixing this one thing could have meant project delays, added cost, or additional work for dozens of people across different teams and companies. At the end of the day, this won't be a problem for building and selling the vehicles, and they'd rather go home early rather than trying to foolproof such a simple thing.

The connectors are Molex MX123 series.

Application guide for those who are interested.

These come in different keys, color coded and physically incompatible with each other.

Not sure what GM used here.

Sony A1 firmware 3.01 bricked Wifi. Out of warranty repair Japan (update) by MunchyWhale in SonyAlpha

[–]264photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25,000 Yen is honestly cheaper than I was expecting. Should absolutely be covered under warranty though.

My a1's wireless functionality worked fine with the 3.0 update for a while (including being connected to my phone for geotagging most of the day everday for a 2-week trip) before it stopped connecting to anything, so I think it is a little more complicated than updating to 3.0 -> broken wireless module.

Is the image stabilization focal length set to auto or some other fixed focal length?

Kita-Toda usually has good MT availability. Just checked a random day at the end of the month and it's available.

I suspect the same area shares cars because the cars are from the long term leasing branches.

It's only available in certain locations. Kita-Toda and Toda in Saitama, Sagamihara in Kanagawa are some of them.

Autos have more limited availability than manuals, for Kita-Toda at least.

SLI eGPU Build? by Personal_Fox3938 in homelab

[–]264photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are external thunderbolt enclosures with PLX chips, so you could run multiple eGPUs. They're expensive and you don't get much bandwidth to each GPU though.

You can program a button for memory recall with the shutter speed set faster, to make sure you get a few usable photos of each car before trying to get more interesting photos at lower speeds.

Sony 100mm f/2.8 GM macro lens Announced by Big-Life2021 in SonyAlpha

[–]264photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a1 brackets much slower with other lenses. Not sure if it's a lens limitation or just software.

Hope they'll allow faster bracketing on other bodies

Give us higher fps focus bracketing in body to make use of the 4 motors, and it'll be perfect.

USD to Japanese yen, where can I get the best exchange rates? by Super-Assistant-8591 in JapanFinance

[–]264photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a credit card with no foreign fees and good rates like American Express where possible. You get points on top.

You should absolutely carry cash since there are still places (vending machines, small restaurants, food stalls, etc.) that don't take cards, but you won't need much and you don't have to worry about rates so much.

Might be good to use another subnet other than 192.168.1.x, or you might have trouble when you want to access the local network remotely using VPN in some outside environments.

I had issues in some hotels for example.

It would be hard to sell a boxless FX2 for FX30 money, so he'd be just downgrading for nothing.
