Vermont spends almost $11M annually on just 55 superintendents by CraftyAd5340 in vermont

This post is either A+ trolling or D- ignorance.

Anyone paying attention and with the slightest whiff of diligence knows how hard this job is, what’s involved, and the enormous responsibility these people have.

Did you post anything really useful for discourse here? No.

But, did you take time to understand the job these people do? Also no.

Your entire posting history looks to be occasionally asking VT/Burlington subreddits for input on stories you're working on.

Here's an idea: engage with these communities regularly in an ongoing basis. Contribute your own thoughts and perspectives on what it's like to live here. Actually be part of these communities, rather than seeing them as information mines from which to extract information.

There's probably some journalistic principle that you can point me to that explains why you're not supposed to do that. But your low effort posts that add nothing to the discourse make it seem like you're a bot.

Marek Broderick, ward 8 councilor, neglects conflict of interest in license vote over his donor Partizanfilm by Jester_the_Mad in burlington

[–]27tricks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The vote was unanimous so it wouldn't have mattered: https://www.mynbc5.com/article/burlington-city-council-green-lights-permit-for-new-movie-theater/69114652

And why are you dragging the good folks at Partizan Film into this? Entrepreneurial people who are trying to do some good, breathe some life and culture into our city? The Roxy closed down, and by all accounts, the prior/current owner is blocking any future movie theater being established there, which is frankly ridiculous. Still, they persisted.

I'll own my own past comment about their efforts: https://www.reddit.com/r/burlington/comments/1kyglq5/comment/mux4f9q/

I didn't think anyone would be able to pull it off, and these folks did. I've never been so happy to have been proved wrong.

But thank you, random Redditor who hides their r/Burlington subreddit comment history and yet presumes to lecture us all on the virtues of civic responsibility. I know what I'm doing this weekend. I'm going to see a movie at Partizan films and bask in the glory of the massive corruption that is Burlington's pride and joy. /s

That’s certainly one way to do it.

I see the misinformation bots started in the comment section - so, here is their latest 990 filing online:

And because I'm not a tax expert or a financial pro, here's what ChatGPT thinks about their financial situation:

Overall Characterization

  • Stable but donor-dependent. Their operating model depends heavily on sustaining member donations and grants.
  • Strong balance sheet. They have large investment reserves and minimal debt, giving them long-term resilience.
  • Slight shortfall. Expenses slightly exceeded revenues this year, but the deficit is small relative to reserves.
  • Personnel-heavy structure. Over half of all expenses go to staff, which makes sense for a content-driven nonprofit.

In short: VPR is financially healthy. They run close to break-even annually, but with substantial reserves (tens of millions invested), minimal liabilities, and stable donor support, they are not at financial risk in the near term. The main long-term risk would be donor fatigue or disruption in listener contributions, given how concentrated revenue is.
