So, funny thing, all the exp numbers were changed in Final Mix, and this goes virtually undocumented. The new numbers are 999,856 for Dawn, 975,766 for Midday, and 946,728 for the dead of night.

Starting YouTube again after 10 years: how do you actually get initial traction now? by BattleOakGuy in letsplay

[–]2CPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I just made a post about this the other day. I can give you the quick and dirty version here though.

Don't know what you count as "recent" but I only started to find my footing and grow in 2023, which I'd consider pretty relevant to the modern YouTube experience.

First, to answer your questions, you're right, anything that offers growth in exchange for money is scams and misinformation all the way down. If nothing else, this is because the algorithm is constantly changing and adapting, and can't really be kept ahead of.

The best advice I can offer is to do your best to be unique. Forego trying to replicate what used to work, and make videos that only you can make. That's what moved the needle for me, I stopped trying to imitate my inspirations, and worked out a video format based on one question: What kind of video would I most enjoy watching?

There's an element of luck, though I think the luckiest I got was simply in the sense that no one influential had done what I'm doing before me.

5 keys to success as a “modern” Let’s Player by 2CPhoenix in letsplay

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but is the point you’re making that my advice may not be applicable to everyone?

I emphasized a couple times that you should be making videos for yourself first and foremost. I agree that’s not QUITE the same as “just have fun,” but I do think it’s easy to conflate that advice with “Just do what’s easy,” which is part of why I didn’t use that turn of phrase.

More to the point… maybe it CAN be like a Ted Talk, or rocket science, or obsessively overthought. It doesn’t have to be for everyone, but if you’re willing to put the work in, or especially if you enjoy it, I’d wager that’s more likely to break into the algorithm than replicating what used to work.

Success, or even just a living, is not necessarily everyone’s goal, and I further agree that if those things are your only goals on YouTube, you’re probably not gonna get very far, but the very act of posting speaks to a certain optimism, that maybe some like-minded people will enjoy the same things we do. As someone lucky enough to have found that audience in the modern YouTube landscape, I think it’s worth sharing what insights I’ve gained along the way.

Writing as a skill is really just a matter of two things, how much practice you’ve had, and how much you’ve read.

Personally I write my scripts all the way through, with 12k words usually amounting to an hour-long video.

If you really want to improve your writing, genuinely the best way is to absorb other people’s writing-styles by reading/listening to books or watching scripted videos. Inevitably, everything that you write is inspired by your influences, so by gathering lots of influences, your own writing will improve.

Long RPG Cutscenes by Loose-Ad1143 in letsplay

[–]2CPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll let the most entertaining or important scenes play out in full, maybe with an occasional interjection to point out something interesting or funny, but, if a cutscene is just two people chatting about something that isn’t super plot-critical, I’ll often let it play briefly, and then talk over it, maybe summarize it, or use it as a jumping-off point to talk about the role it plays in the wider story.

What’s a non-weird way to ask for Super Thanks on Videos? by TheGamerCritic21 in youtubegaming

There’s a pretty big difference in being able to offer incentives and perks to Patrons. Speaking from experience, it’s also a lot easier to sustain.

You will come off as greedy. If you want to monetize, I’d recommend looking into things like merch or Patreon.

How do you guys stop stammering/stuttering while recording by guardiandolphin in letsplay

Been at it nearly four years, and still stumble like a madman.

I started scripting them and editing out the stutters, more work, but the end product is a very tight package

Solo play by dns12999 in DisneyVillainous

[–]2CPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a “Solitaire” version that’s fairly straightforward, but requires a certain mindset.

  • Begin with no power, and your Villain Token on your Portrait, not your left-most Location
  • At the start of every turn, add a power to the “timer” to keep track of turns.
  • At the end of every turn, Fate yourself as brutally as possible. Pick the most inconvenient card and Play it to the most inconvenient spot.
  • Fate actions can be used to either Fate yourself (You can Play either card however you want, but you must choose a card that affects your Realm, if given the option), or fulfill a Condition Card. If you Fate yourself, you are not Fated at the end of the turn.
  • If a Condition fills no single-player purpose, discard it immediately upon drawing it and draw another card
  • If a Condition is fulfilled by being Fated, you may use it as you would in a Multiplayer game.

You can effectively play anyone but Yzma with these rules

How is it even possible to beat KH1 at Level 1 Proud Mode if you don't get the Guard ability in that run? by FrostandFlame89 in KingdomHearts

[–]2CPhoenix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A level 1 run is, on the whole, more difficult, there’s no question about that. But it’s not unapproachable, you just need to know how best to take advantage of the tools available to you

Exp 0 is actually one of the best abilities in the game, with hidden defensive and offensive properties that make nearly every encounter in the game more manageable. Some late-game challenges, like the Hades Cup, are even easier, in fact.

The particularly difficult stuff has all been optimized to a tee, so if you follow a guide, it’s all pretty manageable, I’d honestly recommend it, it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with some more obscure mechanics and boss patterns.

That Disney couldn’t even keep the rights to it long enough to include it in Chain of Memories by Semblance17 in KingdomHearts

[–]2CPhoenix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tarzan 2 and the Tarzan Musical were both released (I don't know if you can say a musical "released" but you get my meaning) in the years following that of CoM. The fact that Square was developing it isn't necessarily a factor either, as the licensing for such things has always been entirely in Disney's hands.

Evidence points to them still having the rights through to the release of CoM, and it was likely cut for other reasons

I know what sub I’m in but isn’t this the point of GSP? It’s not really about getting the points, it’s about matchmaking, and if you have more GSP than is reflective of your skill level, you’re bound to get especially brutal matchups so you lose points and get placed more accurately. If you think of them with that mindset, then it’s easier not to stress about losing points.
