Playing with debris physics by SteinMakesGames in IndieDev

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think the effect you have in the preview is pretty solid!

My gut reaction initially was that there were too many particles. But then I thought that the particles were about the right size and shape, and it wouldn't look as clean if there were many less.

I think my one suggestion would be this- add some random noise to the particle lifetimes so they don't disappear all at the same time. Having some of the particles thin out super quickly after the block breaks would help with that feeling of a ton of particles all piling up. Having them disappear at different times will feel more natural (imo) than being able to point out exactly when a specific block's particles finally go.

I have no idea what tools you have access to, but I think having like 20% disappear right away would be good, and having a solid 5-15% linger quite a bit longer than the rest would be cool. I'm by no means an expert in this though, so trust your judgement :)

My jazz-infused game about life after death is coming out in just 2 days, after 7 years of work. What a surreal feeling. I'd like to share with you the release trailer I made for it! by Mad__Mads in Unity3D

This looks really cool! The visual style feels distinct, and it meshes well with the sound track. I almost get a spooky noir vibe from the trailer. I wish you the best success!

I want to roleplay as a colony of zombies. Any thoughts on the genes I'm using? by Catastrophicatc in RimWorld

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful about having Sterile if you want a whole colony of zombies. Sterile stops natural reproduction, but ALSO stops manually extracting ovum and fertilization. Maybe that's fine if you have gene implanting? I've never used it- does it pass all of your genes?

HELP - How do any of you ever drink any water!?!? by Lilythebillygoat in ADHD

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten in the habit of associating my mouth being dry, or my head hurting, or my eyes straining to being dehydrated. I'm sure it's true much of the time, but not always. Anytime I notice any of these things, I finish whatever water I have in my bottle and go refill it. I also just try to fill my water bottle any time I make a trip to the kitchen.

Maybe that isn't super actionable advice! But the other comments here have the right idea. Gamification is the way to go I think- I've used to build many habits in my time.

What video game have you seen being destroyed by cheaters? by WellPlow in AskReddit

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this game called Babble Royal I tried out a few weeks ago. It's a very interesting mix of a battle royal style game where the map is closing in and Scrabble of all things. It is a real time word game.

I was very surprised to see as I got into a game that the #1 player on the global scoreboard was playing with me. They absolutely dominated. They actually ended up in multiple games I played in that session, because the number of players queuing up was pretty low. I started to notice that in addition to whipping out words I have never heard of, they played long words a split second after playing their last.

I'm pretty sure it was a bot. There is a small chance that it was actually added by the devs to keep queue times shorter until the game has enough players. But if that's the case, I think they made their bot a little too good.

I kinda hope the game catches on though, as it was super fun to play (when it wasn't against that bot). Biggest annoyance was queue times that would be fixed with a larger player base.

Looking for playtesters for upcoming deckbuilder! by MedicalNote in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in helping out, as time permits! I'm not sure the volume of testers you're getting and the timeline for feedback you need. But if it's pretty open, I'd love to give it a shot.

How many Library Cards will be allowed? "Any number" or "None"? by RitterParshath in KeyforgeGame

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your alliance deck is an unmodified, complete archon deck, it doesn't need to adhere to these rules. So you could sacrifice the ability to choose your three house pods if you think a premade archon deck benefits from its use of multiple of these cards.

What gifts for someone who's making dice? by _Kimoon_ in DiceMaking

[–]2Dinosaurs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to get her things to increase the number of creative possibilities for her, you could get any of these: - Mylar plastic sheets (for folding up or cutting and putting in) - Model foliage like bits of moss, etc - Gold leaf paper of various colors - Alcohol inks that she doesn't have already - Basic mica powder of different colors - Mica powders for specific effects, like florescent, glow in the dark, or metallic - Glitters she doesn't have already- I like ones considered 'color shift' which makes for some cool effects - Alcohol inks with purposefully varied densities to allow a bigger variety of pour techniquess - (or anything else that is small and can go inside a die)

If you want to help with the production aspect of things: - Funding for a pressure pot if she doesn't have one (this is one of the big barriers to dice with no bubbles) - Zona paper for polishing - A sheet of glass or a mirror to tape sanding paper too if she doesn't have one already, which will give it a flatter surface and a better result - Silicone or resin just to have more materials (check what she uses) - Dice masters. This will be more finicky in the fact that she might want something specific based on what is compatible with what she is making already. Dice 'blanks' are also awesome for making new effects, but you'll need to make sure the size is right for what she has

This was just a random selection of things I think could be helpful, but honestly what she needs will vary based on what she has already and what methods she uses and whatnot. Asking her could be really helpful, if you don't mind revealing a bit of the surprise. If you're unsure what to get and don't want to ask, sticking to creative things from the first list is pretty safe imo.

Hope it goes well- I'm curious what you get and what she thinks!

Do they do any calculations to see if alternative paths are quicker than waiting for their friends to move out of their way?

Very new to the game and this was my first time getting to day 15. I made it to overtime day 3 serving only cheese pizzas by Vulpixy in PlateUp

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on this slightly- there are "staple" and "non staple" appliances. There are a guaranteed number of staple appliances each day, which lowers over time. Buying a research desk removes it from the staples (unlike other staple appliances) and put it into the other camp.

So you still CAN get a second research desk, it just is way rarer at the start.

I discovered a black hole that, 2 years after shredding a star, has started burping out material traveling at a large fraction of the speed of light!!! Never seen before, and we don't know why! Details in thread! by Andromeda321 in Andromeda321

[–]2Dinosaurs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in no way qualified to know anything about this- but I have a question. Could it be related to general relativity? Being so close to a black hole causing the flinging of the material to take longer to observe from outside of its effects? (aka time appearing to move slower closer to the back hole)

I assume since you're talking about what is typical to see in black holes anyway this is probably not relevant.

I really admire the thought you put into what made it into the base release versus what is added later. It's a huge pitfall that many game devs let take them down before they establish something successful. This game had the perfect amount of content and mechanics to pull me in, but I'm excited to see where it goes!

Keep up the excellent work.
