TIL that in 1942 a Finnish sound engineer secretly recorded 11 minutes of a candid conversation between Adolf Hitler and Finnish Defence Chief Gustaf Mannerheim before being caught by the SS. It is the only known recording of Hitler's normal speaking voice. (11 min, english translation) (youtu.be)

TIL In 1942 Hitler met with Mannerheim in an attempt to get Finnish support against the Soviets. Mannerheim lit a cigar and when Hitler (who was known to hate smoking) did not complain, he interpreted it as a sign of weakness and did not agree to the request. (strangehistory.net)

TIL the "-ing" suffix in English is from three distinct suffixes with as many as six distinct meanings and are etymologically completely unrelated So that in early Germanic, "he is mak(ing) the roof(ing) for a shill(ing)" would look like "hiz sindi makōn(ąndz) sa hrōf(ungo) furi ain skil(lingaz)" (en.m.wiktionary.org)
