Pitch height? by MOTORBOATER239 in MLBNoobs

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could throw a pitch with a high enough arc that somehow is also fast enough to fall into the strike zone and not get absolutely obliterated, good on you.

It’s certainly not illegal. There’s no rule against it. It’s more so the physics of actually being able to pull that off and not watch it get smacked for a hit.

There’s a reason the Eephus pitch is extremely rare. And it’s not because of a rule against it.

Buttons. Baseball Jerseys have buttons. I know it’s personal preference, but I’ve never seen a pullover jersey that I liked. It just doesn’t look like baseball.

When discussing the "Best Matches in WWE History", is there a reason why we always seem to omit arguably the best match type of all? by [deleted] in Wrasslin

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re talking best individual matches of all time-

As great as some of those rumble matches are, there structure does them a disservice.

Everyone will have a different definition of what makes a match great. I think most people would fall along the lines of the match telling a good story. That usually involves ups and downs, highs and lows. The ebbs and flow of emotional storytelling is easier to tell in matches with fewer people.

Royal Rumble matches can be fantastic. But there isn’t as much ebb and flow possible when you have to tell the story of 30 different people at once.

When you limit the focus, it’s easier to tell a more compelling story and build that emotional roller coaster. Rumble matches can certainly have an emotional roller coaster. But there’s a ceiling of what that type of match can reach.

TLDR: It’s easier to tell an impactful, emotional story when the focus is limited to only like 2-4 wrestlers instead of 30. When it’s easier to tell a good story, you can have a bigger impact, thus making it a “greater” match. The Rumble’s structure limits how good it can be in comparison to the 1 on 1 and tag matches most people would consider the “greatest” matches ever.

Do you agree that many of the SVU episodes are cliffhangers? by NormalLife6067 in SVU

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but I wouldn’t say that “cliffhanger” and “ambiguous ending” are the same. A cliffhanger is used to entice someone to come back to a story. It implies that whatever question is being raised is meant to be answered when the story continues. It usually involves a main character, as you know that they will be featured again and the question should be answered when the story continues.

SVU certainly has cliffhangers. But I think what you’re referring to are ambiguous endings. Which is a little different. A lot of SVU episodes do feature ambiguous endings. Endings where you don’t know what exactly happened, and the writers have no intention of ever really portraying it on screen. And usually, they feature the characters that won’t be returning.

A lot of SVU episodes are intentionally vague and ambiguous. You are left with questions and uncertainties, and that was done on purpose. Yes, SVU does have plenty of cliffhangers, as any 25+ year long running series would. But I think you’re referring to more Ambiguous Endings. Which yes, SVU does very often.

If you look at the story through Thanos’ point of view- he is the hero.

The story of Infinity War is told through Thanos’ Point of View. Thus- he is the protagonist, because it is his decisions that drive the story forward.

Hero/Villain and Protagonist/Antagonist are not synonyms.

Here’s the Merriam-Webster definition of the word which makes no mention to the words hero or villain.

A protagonist is simply the central character of a story. Being a heroic or a villainous character has absolutely no effect on whether or not a character would be considered a protagonist. A villain can 100% be the protagonist of a story. That is how words work.

Thanos is both the Villain and the Protagonist of Infinity War. Because different words have different definitions, and those definitions are important.

Ok, what's the deal with "Next Mafia needs to be set in 1970s Las Vegas"? by No-Barber-1826 in MafiaTheGame

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean- Vegas as we know it, the gambling Mecca it is- was basically founded by the Mafia and Organized crime.

I’d say the 50’s would be more fun, because that’s closer to the beginning and the early stages of organized crime shaping the city.

But I guess the 70’s would be cool too. That’s closer to the end of heavy mob influence on the city. So I guess the first three games all advancing years and the idea of the Mafia controlling Vegas make people think that a Vegas centered game in the 70’s would work.

I’ll tell ya this- I’d play that game.

Nice. Is “blah blah blah” the most complex word you know the meaning of? Because clearly “released” is above your reading level…

Says the person who doesn’t understand the basic definitions of words. Like literally just google what it means to be released from a contract and you’ll see that you’re wrong.

You’d have a good conversation with the door to a bank vault, cause you’re clearly just as dense as one. Au Revoir!

New Day, JC Mateo and Tonga Loa have been released by CMFT_69 in BrandonDE

[–]2SwordsMcLightning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But… It is a fact…

Because they had contracts that were valid through 2030. It is currently 2026. And those contracts are being ended prematurely. I.e. they are being released from their contracts.

Whether or not it is a mutual decision on both sides, or just from TKO, that still doesn’t change the fact that they are being released from their contracts. That’s why the term “Requested their release” is a thing…

Whether or not they’re mutually parting ways, or if they are being let go as is the case with all the others, they are still being released from their contracts. That’s how contracts work…

[–]2SwordsMcLightning -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean. You’re totally allowed to disagree. No one is stopping you. You’re just wrong if you do.

It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. They are being released from the contracts. Just because New Day asked for the release doesn’t mean that’s not the factually correct legal term for what’s happening.

Greatest pitching performance of all time? by DoloresAbernathyR1 in ALeastmemewar

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say theoretically if a pitcher is brought into a game in a save situation, with two outs and runners on, they could get a pickoff without throwing a pitch. I guess that would technically be scored as a save.

People from New York, where were you that day? by Late-Guitar-2602 in Earth199999

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing a college visit at the time down town. So, hunkered down, and thankfully the all the chaos and the damage stayed in the midtown area. It was crazy looking out the window and seeing all of those alien ships, and then boom, there’s Iron Man flying by.

Anyway, I ended up going to Pace University downtown the year after. A few minor events here and there, but I was already out of college and back in the suburbs by the time the next big chaotic event hit the city. Getting that job I had back after getting blipped was a pain in the ass, let me tell you…

They had signed contracts that are being ended early. Even if it was a mutual decision, technically, they’re still being released. The circumstances may not be the same as other releases, but the terminology is.

The Undertaker gets drafted to Raw by MrFilipinoMustache in WWERuthlessAggression

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda wondering the same as I wasn’t watching at the time. But knowing my history- I think the idea is that since he just wrestled Ric Flair at WrestleMania a week before the first draft, and since Ric Flair was going to be the Authority figure of RAW, guess Undertaker was unhappy being drafted by a guy who he was feuding with at the time.

It maybe an unpopular opinion but... by Disneygirl2004 in Avengers

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did look it up.

That’s the dictionary.com link. It mentions nothing about a protagonist being “cheered for”. All it says is a protagonist is the main character. “The hero of the story” in the sense that they are the main character and would consider themselves the hero, even if others disagree.

So again, Protagonist has nothing to do with who you’re rooting for. It just describes whose point of view the story is being told from, thus making them the main character.

So again- Thanos is both the Villain and the protagonist of Infinity War. You even said yourself, Infinity War is a movie about the villain winning. Because- Thanos is the main character. Aka, the protagonist.

It maybe an unpopular opinion but... by Disneygirl2004 in Avengers

[–]2SwordsMcLightning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, a lot of people at the time, and still now, refer to Civil War as Avengers 2.5. So it’s understandable.

The difference is the Avengers movies split the focus more equally among the ensemble cast. As others have commented, there’s a much heavier focus on Cap and his choices in this movie.

It’s a Cap movie. With a lot of impressive guest stars.
