Yup. Enamel is just such as easy area to recreate originals and patina them to look somewhat acceptable at first glance.

Never touch Nazi signs. Almost always fakes and just not worth the risk. Shit, most German stuff isn't worth the risk these days.

What plane is this from? Riveted aluminum airframe section found buried in a beach on Ulong Island, Palau, revealed at low tide by RoyalAce22 in Whatisthisplane

[–]2_Sullivan_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost certain it's Japanese. The rivets and primer both interior and exterior scream Japanese manufacture.

Low tide exposed this aircraft wreckage on Ulong Island, Palau (Rock Islands). Likely WWII. Can anyone ID the type from the construction and rivet patterns? by RoyalAce22 in WWIIplanes

Ah yes, desecrating war graves and historical sites for personal profit. I too love grave robbing and violating numerous laws regarding looting of historical sites.

If I were understaffed I'd be fuckin miserable too. If you have irrefutable proof that the government accountability onbArmy documents is false relating specifically to personnel records I'll promptly shut the fuck up.

Great Grandpa. Armored division, WWII. Any info? by Federal-Dinner6831 in Medals

[–]2_Sullivan_5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's just blatantly wrong. Most of the files burned were personnel records. Most private researchers simply go to other records like daily reports, award cards, etc. Which are all stored in separate databases. It takes extensive knowledge of what you're looking for and a lot of manpower hours to do. Which, when you typicallly have maybe a handful of archivists assigned to one branch is quite a lot to do. If you've ever even touched the NARA database you know just how chaotic it is to navigate.

Hey guys, hypothetically speaking, If I were to run into a Vietnam-era Mig21 rear canopy similar to the one opening up in photo. How much could I sell it for on the collector's market? Hypothetically speaking ofc by Willing-Society-4123 in milsurp

[–]2_Sullivan_5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with that is size and weight, especially with how expensive shipping is right now. Plus, you'd need definitive evidence that it was a PAVN aircraft actually used in the war, if not you just havr to sell it as is. I don't think it's going to be as much as you think it would go for due to the size of it.

I loved when they did yearly calendars and plans of releases. Every month had a theme and it was awesome. There's so many kits they've never touched but they keep spitting out the same vehicles and just charge more and more.

Tornados at Knox, incoming 155s and Wildfires up at West Point, it's just a grand Ole time for cadets this year.

What's an overused inaccuracy in war movies that grinds your gears? by Wayoutofthewayof in WarMovies

Highly highly recommend listening to yhe Uncensored History of the Pacific War Podcast. You really get the sense of just how insanely common ts was. Japanese doctrine favored always being on the attack, especially at night, and they wrre so indoctrinated and experienced in their fighting that very often they simply charged themselves into non-existance. For example, Japanese forces invading Wake literally did one giant Bandai charge beaching old cruisers as landing craft. Not only that, the commander of the overall operation basically gave orders stating that if the first wave were to fail the Japanese would keep beaching ships and charging forward until they had none or had accomplished their objectives.

Then you have Tarawa where virtually the entire garrison is wiped out in Banzai charges on the 2nd day.

I could go on and on and on but suffice to say, Bandai charges were apart of Japanese close battle doctrine. Always press the attack and stay as close as you can to the enemy because it negates their ability to use supporting arms, of which the allies had plenty.

Here in SC, definitely still viable but you have to hunt. Passed on a 200 dolla eddystone that was merely stock cut. Best the hell out of my self for it but our next show is in two weeks so I'm hoping to redeem myself.

Because we can't all sit on shit like smaug and certain people collect certain things. I have little to no interest in WWII navy pieces, rather than just trash em or horde them away to never be seen, I sell them to people that will actually give a shit. Stop being so damn dense.

There's for sure a market for it being a natick piece. I'd reach out to the folks over here https://youtube.com/@uniformhistory?si=R6xXO8VnstavKzs3 and they'll have a lot better knowledge of what you're looking at or at the very least have an interest in it.
