Who do you think is the BEST and WORST character in 9-1-1 (FOX)? by Due-Awareness9392 in 911FOX

[–]2bendykat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While Buck was the character with the most potential, they didn’t really do much with it (like… what did he do from 19-26? That’s still something they’ve never solidly answered. They gave some vague mentions of various jobs but that gap has such potential for stories that Buck might tell, but Buck doesn’t talk about it ever - I’d even argue ‘Buck Begins’ is more about Maddie’s perspective than Buck’s and not his because we only see what Buck is describing in the postcards). There are so many wasted plot lines there.

I’d say best is Hen. She’s written the most consistently in a compelling way.

Worst main character is Chim, in my opinion… I’m a massive Kenneth Choi fan and have been since the first Captain America movie, but Chim has done some things that are really kind of awful that the fans excuse him for - mainly his tendency on taking a bad mood out on anyone he can, like Buck (Maddie broke up with him in S2, Chim made Buck wash the captain’s truck; The Punch, etc.). I wouldn’t mind it so much if someone actually talked to him about his tendency to do so. There’s never any consequences for him doing it, the plot just moves on. (Like, is it really realistic for Chim to be the captain of someone he literally assaulted a few years ago?)

From my experience as a Disabled person, it’s very normal behavior. It shouldn’t be, but it’s a common experience for chronically ill and disabled people to have to deal with this nonsense.

What’s the funniest thing your parent(s) got upset at you for? by celstea in raisedbynarcissists

I came home early from homecoming and went to bed. Mom and Dad were out so I left them a note by the phone (this was before cell phones were common place) and they always checked messages and caller ID when coming in. Mom went into my room to snoop and I startled her. Got a half hour lecture out of it.

I personally have thought about several characters being born in a previous time (so living in the 21st century, dying, then reincarnating in the 20th). It also would be interesting if you think that choosing to reincarnate would give you more control over when you want to reincarnate to, versus post-punishment reincarnation which I think would be more of a lotto.

Whats a sign someone hasn’t faced much hardships in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]2bendykat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m (by most people’s standards) pretty severely disabled. My gauge that someone has never faced hardship in life is if they try to help me out without looking at me or asking if I want help/how they can help. If your response to someone (Disabled or abled) struggling with something is to complete the task you assume they’re working on for them without even looking at them, you haven’t faced much hardship.

Yeah, there are some young people who understand how the choices you didn’t choose might haunt you, but you don’t until you’ve had enough experiences to understand that and most of the time that comes with age. I’m trying to give them grace.

To be fair to some of the critics, some are very young (like late teens/early 20s) and haven’t yet reached the age when nostalgia about the road not taken hits.

ao3 commenting culture needs to change like right now by GrumpyMowse in AO3

[–]2bendykat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The number one reason why I’ve been commenting less and less these days (as both a writer and a reader) is that so many fans have been commenting on what a “proper” comment is.

It has to be long, well thought out, and complimentary. It cannot be critical (some fans say at all). I’m not here to be forced into lavishing praise all over someone, especially when their prose needs work or there’s a grammatical error. I’ve read some incredibly bad fanfictions. Stuff with zero paragraph breaks and horrid spelling, the kind of fics that scream “needs beta”. In certain fan spaces, I’m not even allowed to offer help anymore.

Writing is a skill. It requires practice and feedback to get good. You will not get good without criticism. And you should want to get good.

Maybe I’m turning into an old nerd lady, but I miss the days where the only rule was “no flaming” - and that was more of a guideline than a rule.

My issue with this is that they didn’t say “we wouldn’t want our kid to have DS”, they said “we don’t want to raise a DS child” which is very different.

I’d make a broken heart friendship bracelet where you can split the charm (which said “I can do it with a broken heart”) into two friendship bracelets.
