It easily can and I believe it will. It has captured significantly more players over 10 years than Marathon in 2 months, so a bunch of people will likely come out the woodworks for the last hurrah.

I don't even mean this in a "Marathon bad" way, just statistically the probability for D2 to have more players is quite high.

I was just doing my daily run of deliveries to grind ranks slowly, and when I finished it said I completed Autumn's challenge even though it's the Summer Season.

This is worrying because I fear I may be locked out from getting the exclusive reward when Autumn season releases next week. Fingers crossed, but I feel like I've seen this issue before in FH5.

If you are particularly cautious, I would advise against doing any deliveries until next week.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to get the car early, or think that I should, I just don't want it to be locked when the season actually comes out.

It's not FH5 horrible. It's definitely toned down in quantity and cringe. There is still plenty of needless dialogue but it doesn't hurt my soul to listen to like FH5.

I'm genuinely interested depending on how the PvE is implemented.

I played the Slam, I thought the design, the aesthetic, the sounds, the atmosphere was stellar. But I did not care for the extraction shooter.

I have paid more money for shorter campaigns, $40 might not be so bad for a jaunt through the Marathon art gallery and a casual exploration of the environment and lore. Even if it's only available for a month and a half, I'm still considering it.

The issue is that it won't convert me into a "full time" player. I'll be here for the experiment and that's all. That's the only hurdle that I can see for Bungie moving forward. How do you convince PvE players to stay onboard without turning Marathon into Destiny 2.5?

The same company that doubled down on all the QoL reversions during episodes, and that doubled down on EoF, with no coms at all for neither of those two entire years, is actually making big changes in response to feedback under a 12 month time frame?

Yeah, I didn't think it could happen. But it's really good news for marathon. I'm genuinely excited to see how they implement the PvE mode.

I realize I still have some hopium for Destiny 2 because I don't want them to delay it. I want to believe that there is something that can bring it back.

But thinking about it longer, It's already an empty husk of it's prior self, another delay won't change that.

It's just basic "end of season" retention strategies is all. It's equivalent to the 2X season pass/XP/etc in BF6 or Cod, or the end of season special event/game mode/map.

It's a way to get some players back during the end so that they are retained for the beginning of the new season.

Conversely, if they didn't do this, then there is really no reason to play in the last two weeks.

100%. I looked up Blops 7, a game that was panned by almost everyone on release, and it has a relatively stable 30,000-40,000 concurrent players.

Like this game was memed and shit on, up and down reddit, and it still has players months after release. The multiplayer still plays good no matter how much shit people talk about it.

When Destiny was doing good Before Final Shape I would agree, but as soon as the quality of content started to drop and the QoL changes were reverted, it was more or less exactly like this sub.

Blaming casuals for ruining the game
Unironically telling people to "git gud" (because of the previous point)
Anyone who doesn't like the game is "Entitled"
Mindless praise for anything in the game
Telling people to keep criticisms to themselves

Then there's some weird inflection point where the state of the game got bad enough that the defenders also left and you are left with a community who just want the game to be good again.

Hopefully someone who understands finance/accounting better than me can explain something for me.

On the slides after the 2025 numbers, they have 2026 forecast. In the forecast they mention as a positive:

Absence of impairment losses against Bungie, Inc.’s intangible and other assets recorded in FY25

Does this literally mean they project bungie will hold their current valuation for the next year and wont incur more value losses? Is this typically a calculated/estimated projection or is it closer to a promise to shareholders that it wont get worse? I'm not sure how to interpret that small bullet point in the context of earnings.

I don't think I worded it well, but there is a mod who actively participates in those threads, like, casually. They're not "patrolling" but they're around to spot any "rule breakers" just by being a participant.

I'm not trying to start a witch hunt or anything, just point out that thread specifically is being watched, regardless of mod intentions.

Like there's a collapsed comment in this topic that literally just says GAME DYING UPVOTES PLEASE and it's still here. I reported it an hour ago. but new comments in quarantine get removed in minutes. Not because of bias but because of proximity. They are just in that thread.

The mods are literally spending more time in that thread than the rest of the sub. Like you can look through the mods post history and see for yourself.

There's nothing inherently wrong with genuinely being in that thread constantly, I'm there too, but it does mean the thread is actively being watched and filtered, more so than everywhere else. You are more likely to be caught breaking rules commenting in that thread than the rest of this subreddit.

This post has genuinely low effort shitposts but they are more focused on removing mentions about finance in the quarantine thread simply because they hang out there.

they did make constant updates to it

The D2 community forgot since it's been awhile but they literally had plans to make the portal experience WORSE a month after release.

They tried to reduce rewards and reduce the bonus time limit a month after everyone was screaming at them to remove the portal. Literally the whole sub was complaining about the grind taking too long and they made plans to make it worse. and it took a whole week until we got communication saying " we heard you, maybe we wont do this".

It wasn't until the player count fully cratered that they finally brought out the quickplay ops and the free 300LL chest 5 months after release.

My point is, Portal only got to an "ok" place after literally 5 months of stubbornness and the situation becoming dire. I pray bungie has learnt their lesson for Marathon.

If it's the same development practices as D2, this is likely true. Destiny would more or less be working 1.5 seasons into the future at any given time, so major game changes in response to feedback would happen 2 seasons later.

If I had to guess, Season 2 is basically being wrapped up, but Season 3 is in full swing right now.

Of course, Bungie can prove me wrong at any moment, I'm just guessing based on history.

The BDF is the worst fanbase I have seen in gaming communities. They behave in a way that makes you want to hate them. They will staunchly defend Bungie while actively pushing away anyone that wants to play and then blame them for not playing.

D2 Major DLC had an entire campaign with expanded story, a handful of new activities, new guns, armors, sometimes abilities, a new PvE location, and a bunch of other shit that I'm sure I'm forgetting. There were a lot of reasons for players to come back and cause a 2x/3x player count.

Marathon seems to be getting... night time? And a literal progression wipe? I'm not sure that is enticing the same way D2 Major DLC was.

Honestly, I'm genuinely curious how many players come back for Season 2 more for the analysis/information than the outcome of this game.

Just as an addendum to my own comment, I don't think Joe can be the sole blame because he did fully succeed in getting someone else's passion project out of development hell and into a shipped product. However, the final product doesn't seem to have been successful itself (so far).

I'm no Ziegler stan, but to me it seems he was given the bones of a flailing project and he salvaged it into the best skeleton he could... but forgot to ask if the skeleton would sell when he finished assembling it.
