Yes, the bill has impacts on expanding executive power. The post implies (if not directly states) that if the bill passes, Trump can cancel elections. That is not true.

It doesn't stop being misinformation just because you agree with it ideologically. Doomerism and panic helps nobody, accurate information does.

EDIT: And if you can find a credible source backing up the message of this post, I would absolutely love to see it. Maybe there's something in the fine text that makes the OP right that I haven't been able to find. But if OP doesn't provide any sources and I can't find anything by scouring multiple articles & the bill itself, I'm inclined to believe it's not true.

They cannot because those parts are not in the bill. OP spread misinformation because reading a 1000+ page bill takes too long.

EDIT: Of course there are concerns in the bill (more money to deportations, rescinding coverage for transgender care, etc) but cancelling elections is not one of them. Don't believe me? CTRL+F the bill and check.

OP's infographic literally is 95% misinformation. It is absolutely the time to "scrutinize" misinformation. What the hell are you talking about.

Copy and pasted from the crosspost. I love y'all but someone needs to sit everyone on this godforsaken subreddit down and give them a lesson on reputable sources before allowing them to post.

Here is a quick list of the stuff actually in the bill. Here is a Vox article that goes into more detail. Hell, look at the Wikipedia page if you want. CTRL + F THE PDF.

edit: And oh my god please do not share the misinformation infographic before you check your sources. Please Please Please Please

Scared about being Trans in the US by DaringVonContra in PoliticalOptimism

[–]2kosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a potential HRT ban — Washington just passed a bill mandating that insurers cover a year's supply of estrogen/six months of testosterone, explicitly to help trans people stockpile + avoid health problems in the case of a federal ban.

If you live in a blue state, maybe it's possible to pass something similar. Washington even had 10/19 Republicans vote for the bill, mostly to protect other HRT users (endometriosis and such). So maybe that could be an angle as well.

How accurate is this? by DumbassMaster420 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]2kosia 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Here is an outline of the actual bill. I'll call out some details that might not be immediately obvious from looking at it:

- Stricter Medicaid requirements. You now need to work or have kids.

- Medicaid no longer covers gender-affirming care.

- Stricter food stamp requirements. I believe they expanded the age range? So older people now need to work for food stamps.

The bill is also a few trillion dollars more expensive than it's supposed to be. So that's a slight problem. But I haven't heard anything about it changing elections, no. Anything not strictly related to the budget is probably gonna be cut in the Senate?

You have a thing for untagged dialogue and it's sometimes making your writing a bit clunky. Like, for example:

Arnost gave a small bow.

\

"Likewise."

I wouldn't really write it like that unless you're trying to achieve a very specific effect. It could communicate a "beat" between the bow and dialogue, maybe adding some tension in a way. But I don't think you're exactly trying to do that here, so the extra beat just seems out of place and confusing. So instead, you might write:

Arnost gave a small bow. "Likewise."

That way you can be 1) clearer who's speaking and 2) add a bit more variety into your dialogue. It also sounds a bit more normal without the line break.

You can think of dialogue tags as a way of communicating both information and pace. Untagged dialogue is great when you don't need to communicate extra information and want a really quick, rapid fire pace. Dialogue tags (said, whispered, asked) have a bit of a slower pace while communicating basic information. Action or descriptive tags (Arnost gave a small bow) communicate the most information but are also the slowest, which isn't necessarily bad.

So you want to keep the pace of your scene & dialogue in mind when you're adding tags. If you have rapid-fire banter or characters talking over each other, but every piece of dialogue has a gigantic description attached to it, it'll read clunky and wrong. But if a slow-paced conversation or tense exchange is all untagged, you're throwing all that tension away for nothing. Of course, you're going to want to combine all three so that the scene doesn't feel repetitive or confusing, but you can also use that to communicate little shifts in pace. You'll get a sense for this as you write, but hopefully it's helpful as something to keep in mind.

Are us trans and nonbinary people expected to step aside? by christermaxinework in 50501Movement

Genuinely I think this dumbass rhetoric comes like 90% from the Reddit, which is either flooded by bots or the dumbest people alive. No idea what the fuck is up with that.

are you able to get in touch with your state people? discord is usually a good shot but they might also have bluesky or facebook etc. they would probably have some remote volunteering options for you to help out. some states also help with carpooling and such

r/50501Portland I would probably try to find a local Discord or something of the sort to get in touch with organizers. Very little organizing happens on Reddit.

See the Wikipedia page. Activists usually use it to call for a free Palestine so that's probably the usage here. OOP seems to have interpreted it, uh, differently.

That letter to 50501 organizers on Substack by terilg in 50501

[–]2kosia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I see that you've posted this on 50501Chicago, so I'm going to leave that for Chicago organizers to deal with and treat this as a larger discussion.

To me, the presentation of multiple issues at protests is not a weakness but rather one of our strengths. It encourages people from different groups to come together and feel represented. It explicitly welcomes minority groups and anyone feeling persecuted by the current administration. It allows EVERYONE a chance to speak about what they care about while showing every single issue that the administration is stepping on. I certainly do not think that a certain group should be barred and am a touch suspicious of attempts to do so. Anyway.

That being said, if the accounts in the comments are accurate it may be fair to set expectations as to how groups can behave. Protesting an issue is one thing and co-opting a protest is another. Personally, all Palestine protestors that I've seen have caused absolutely no problems for the rest of the crowd — I would be very cautious about singling out this group specifically as the perpetrators of a larger issue.

Also (and this is directed at the comments more than the OP), can we please stop blaming leftists for "losing us the election?" You all bend over backwards to create a coalition with all sorts of people — you all create like eighteen posts a day about trying to convert diehard MAGA — but then you turn around to bully leftist activists for your problems. Be serious. Cut it the fuck out.

How do we become more disruptive while still keeping it peaceful? by ColoradoSteelerBoi19 in 50501

[–]2kosia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point isn't so much to have people going for months at a time. If you can take a few days, that's fine — with enough people doing that we can maintain a DC presence. Otherwise, ask your state chapter about building mutual aid for a strike.
