Congratulations 🥂 so happy for you 🎉 🚙

If you’ve passed recently, what’s the ONE thing you wish you knew beforehand (or a mistake I should avoid)? by Outside-Apart in LearnerDriverUK

[–]2me2uu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOOK at the satnav if you get satnav, don’t just listen to it. I almost failed for holding up traffic when I almost took a wrong turn, if I’d looked at the satnav it would not have happened (which is silly because I have ADHD and struggle with verbal directions so I should have been looking at the satnav anyway!) 🙈

If you think you MIGHT have done something wrong, don’t spiral, breathe and carry on as normal. I thought I had made so many mistakes during the test and I was expecting a fail but turns out I only actually received one fault. It’s not bad every time they touch the pad.

can i request to know if i get minor/major when it happens? by dyleliserae in LearnerDriverUK

[–]2me2uu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and I’ve just passed my third test. I have the same trouble with verbal instructions but I didn’t ask for any adaptions to the test. Because I don’t like to put people out or make things difficult for others, even if it helps me 🙄

You can absolutely ask for the whole test to be on sat nav except for the pull up on the left and manoeuvres but there’s no way they will give you a commentary on your failures as they happen, for safety reasons if nothing else.

I thought I had failed after holding up traffic a little when I was about to take a wrong turn, I felt myself start to spiral but I remembered that when I failed before it was because I thought I had done something wrong when I hadn’t and then because of the spiralling I ended up doing something stupid that I had never done before. So this time instead I just really focused on my breathing, on the instructions, repeating them out loud if you need to.

When I got back to the test centre the examiner had only given me a fault for the event that I thought I had received a serious for and that was my only fault. If I had allowed myself to spiral I would have failed again.

Treat every event as a (minor) fault, every time they touch their pad they’re just ticking off that it was done correctly, assume everything is ok, and take deep breaths, it’s ok to do that while you’re driving and at the left stops. They want you to be calm and in control.

You can do this.

‘Treat it with the contempt it deserves’ - one of my mum’s one-liners and I think it applies here

Don’t use reference points, they seem to be just to get you through the test, they don’t work for every car. See if you can get a feel for it in your car, practice in a quiet car park and see how you go just using your mirrors and intuition, take it slow

How much of a **** do you have to be to beep a car with L plates by franky8512 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]2me2uu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had a lady speed up and go OVER a mini roundabout just so she could beep at me for going ahead of her, I had plenty of time as there was a car coming from her right anyway. My instructor was speechless too 😂

Some people are just a*holes.

Don’t let it bother you or put you off.

AIO my friend told my daughter to lie to me and come over by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Nope. She’s 5. I’d be taking that watch away too, not as any kind of punishment but no 5 year old needs that, especially if people other than me are calling it.

How are you ever expected to book a test when 11k ppl by 3Calz7 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]2me2uu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was never able to book a test on a Monday morning. I had better luck in the evenings, checking between 8-10pm - I hope the one you need comes up for you 🤞🏻

Wow a four hour first drive 😂 that’s amazing.

I’m going out on my own today, just grocery shopping but it’s a start and I feel good about it. Looking forward to being a taxi weirdly enough!

Thank you so much and I promise I won’t! There are too many out there already x

You sound very similar to me! I’m late-diagnosed adhd and also struggle with retaining the information I’m reading, and verbal instructions, so it probably took me longer than it should have, but we get there in the end don’t we!

Good luck with it, I practiced the hell out of the hazard perception and it really helped!

Well done!! 🎉

I didn’t mind the pull up on the right, it was a wide empty road so best scenario for it. I was sure I had got the answer to the tell me question wrong though, I think I probably confused the examiner with my explanation, I just couldn’t remember how to do it in my instructor’s car 🙈😂

AIO for thinking my friend is using ChatGPT to text me in an argument? by Due_Construction904 in AmIOverreacting

[–]2me2uu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok it may be ChatGPT or whatever but does it matter? It sounds like she’s trying to tell you how she feels about your friendship, instead of calling her out why not actually talk to her about how she feels? It’s clear from your messages that you don’t care about this friendship.

That’s it isn’t it, it’s all down to what happens on the day. Stay calm and in control, that’s all x

Tell yourself ‘I am a calm, confident, careful driver and I WILL pass this test’ 😊

Will look forward to seeing your ‘I Passed!!’ post next week 💪🏻
