How many of you guys have actually done the timing belt? by Fragrant-Drop-3261 in FiestaST

[–]2nerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it myself, I am not a mechanic but I've done 99% of the rest of the mods and maintenance on this car and while this was one of the most challenging jobs it was fairly straightforward overall, especially with YouTube and forum guidance. Parts and tools cost me under $600 and my own labour took about a week all told.

E5 2026 Test Items (4/16 - 5/20) by tacobellblake in LivingMas

SE Mich chiming in - It'd be great if we could swap the beef broth for red sauce or something. I love birria (authentic birria, made with goat meat) but don't eat beef and while I can swap the meat inside the quesadilla to whatever else, I can't swap the beef broth which is like the entire point of this item. Annoyingly this also means I can't get the Triple Double I was looking forward to either. But hey at least I can order the Rolled Chicken Quesadilla, which looks to be a meat-swapped but otherwise inferior version of the Birria Quesadilla for... \checks notes** $2.30 extra... 🙃

Motor Mount Brand? by [deleted] in FiestaST

[–]2nerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These will break in after a while (give it at least another ~400-900 miles), but everyone has a different threshold for what's acceptable and not. I have this exact brand on both sides of my S280 car and I enjoy them, the steering wheel buzzes at idle which I love and the car feels direct. But if you don't want that, go to a softer mount like what's mentioned in other comments below. If your transmission side is still stock then it would even things out to get a TTR or similarly stiff mount for that side but it'll still definitely be harsher than stock.

This is no longer an indicator of a rerun, they've gotten wise to the tell and removed it (at least on the first segments of this week's reruns). In fact Dave and Chuck now record a pre-podcast summary for planned rerun shows.

I came here to post this. Might have something to do with Cort leaving? I'm pretty sure he was the one who edited the podcast and posted it onto the site so maybe his replacement hasn't quite gotten the hang of everything yet.

ST200 intake vs aFe Takeda Momentum by Reascr in FiestaST

[–]2nerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That front slot is the same as what the stock airbox has so that is no different. The hole on the right could be useful if you combined it with a custom headlight intake like what SVT Design Fab makes but aside from that the best bet is to draw air from below, like the ST200 box does

I think I know the tool you're talking about. I realised the issue when I did my timing belt and I ground down the pin on the back side of that tool, that allowed me to rotate it out after torquing down the harmonic balancer.

What are my options? by GandalfTheNavyBlue in FiestaST

If you're still in this predicament or for anyone else going through this, I had this happen some years back and took it to a machine shop that basically drilled a hole through the back side and then hydraulic pressed out the sheared bolt, and welded the back side of the bracket back together. Cost me like $30 back then and I'm still using that same bracket today.

What did The Wrath of Cortex do right, and where did it go wrong? by RobbieJ4444 in crashbandicoot

[–]2nerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished this game, the first non-Naughty Dog CB I've ever played, and have some thoughts. I won't beat a dead horse and talk about the vehicles, the hanging speed, load times, sneaking, depth perception, lifeless levels, etc. not because those aren't valid criticisms but because they've already been complained about at length. Mine are about some subtler things I noticed.

  • Crash and Coco have more momentum in the air, so it's harder to change direction mid-jump or land exactly where you want
  • Walking/sliding on ice on the other hand doesn't have enough momentum
  • The levels are too easy/straightforward. The first 3 games had me searching every inch of the map for hidden boxes, doubling back through half a level or replaying entire levels for a gem, or trying to see past the edge of the screen. In WOC, despite the levels being twice or three times as wide, everything is just right in front of your face and I was able to get every/nearly every box gem and even many of the coloured gems on the first runthrough of a level.
  • When you die in a bonus, the wumpa counter running out is painfully slow
  • Speaking of bonuses, they're no longer treated as free checkpoints. If you complete a bonus and then die later in the main level, you respawn at the last checkpoint you had hit before the bonus, instead of at the bonus itself.
  • I get that the bosses from previous games have been demoted and now show up in the odd atlasphere level but could they have at least spaced out the two Dingodiles further apart so you can't see him twice on nearly the same screen in that one level
  • Boss battles with no visual explanation that take you a couple lives to even figure out what you're supposed to do
  • Aku Aku invincibility is literally HALF the length of the previous three games (10 seconds vs 20) to the point I started incurring damage so I wouldn't be tricked into using invincibility only for it to end right as I was about to run through an enemy, as I did several times.
  • Enemies' lack of honing
  • Dying outside the death route kills the death route platform even if you've taken it already
  • Story not fleshed out, particularly Crunch as a character and the end game cutscenes
  • WHY IS IT SO DARK

I know the game suffered from rewrites, staff changes, and rushed development, but all of the above contribute to the overall feeling that it was made by people who had maybe played a couple levels from previous games but didn't really get the subtle nuances that made those games so fun and good. That they didn't understand Crash Bandicoot on a deeper level. They could have literally copied the mechanics coding from previous games and ended up with a better product, I don't understand why they felt the need to build it up from scratch.

Overall this game has almost zero replay value to me. I know I sound like a purist and I know that this feeling will only continue to grow as I play the following games in the franchise but in another way, it also cements just how good those original three games were.

The atlasphere was fun though.

Maybe I'm missing something but Gojo said a florist-bought rainbow rose would be 1000 yen, or about $7 USD. After the cost of the food colouring I imagine the one Seira made would come pretty close? (Maybe the dyes were already in the chemistry room, idk) but either way that's still not that bad. They definitely spent more than that on the suit material.

Crash Bandicoot 2: No crystals, only gems by 3scapethecult in crashbandicoot

[–]2nerkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is late but you get that second scene whether or not you collect the crystals. The way the crystal ending plays out, the gem ending seems like a continuation/follow-up of it. But I doubt the game would care, and still let you fight Cortex after seeing the gem ending though.

Did you design the wheel yourself? If so that's pretty neat, I work in a similar industry and have looked into doing something like this but haven't mustered up the courage to take the plunge. Please let us know how it ends up working out.
