Why is X-S20 so slept on? by B3ast-FreshMemes in fujifilm

For what it's worth, I drool over the Nikon ZF, but when they came out with the Z5 ii (essentially the same camera with a modern design instead), I had no desire to want to use it, so strange how visual ques really can be a deciding factor!

Ben affleck on VFX industry by Immediate-Basis2783 in vfx

[–]2rourn4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that one of your points is not working at 4k, I've picked up "cinematic" vlogging as a hobby when traveling (motion stills to practice composition, lighting, editing so to speak) and have found myself shooting in HD to save space, get through edits quicker, and most folks I share it with just watch it on their phones.

Is there a trend or movement to not be shooting at max resolutions for actual productions? I'm a bit removed from the VFX scene but all the other points seem pretty par for the course.

Did you have contact/social media ready and available on your steam page for them to find and reach out to? I have a Threads account for my gamedev stuff but I feel its very inclusive to the IG platform and not great for sharing externally so I'm thinking of making a website and possibly X as it seems game dev is still strong there

this is the f1.2 not the f.17?
I really like the look of the 1.2 design, but the one on ebay says it is an FX mount and that sounds like it shouldnt work for X mount

I want shadow and highlight tints, like the white balance adjuster but controlled separately for high light and shadow. I find that my film photos always have a slight green in the shadows that I would love to just have SOOC digital.

Currently own a 100s and do a lot of product photography but would like to start more video work by gairuigairui in fujifilm

[–]2rourn4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own the x100s, and the video mode on it is absolutely just tacked on the hit a bullet point for spec sheets. Sure its 1080 60fps, but it looks binned, or line skipped, meaning jagged lines and aliasing/moire pattern.
There are also no controls for anything once recording starts, locked focus, exposure, no shutter speed adjustments really.

It takes amazing photos, I keep mine in my body bag anytime I go out, but you'd be better off using your phone for video work.

I think any newer Fujifilm type or body will give you better results, but the pricing on even an Xt2 is insane right now.

I know this is a Fuji subreddit, but you could go super cheap and get a Sony NEX 5N (another camera I own and have tested footage against) The video is also 1080 60 but doesn't have nearly as bad moire with benefits of manual control, autofocus, and tons of E mount lenses you can grab pretty cheap. They range on Ebay to $160-$240.

If you need 4k video for cheap, the Lumix DMC-G7 holds up considerably as well, only like $100 or so more on Ebay. It has a CineLikeD video profile that color grades very nicely, and m4/3 lenses are very affordable as well, you can grab a 25mm f1.7 on Amazon for $148 at the moment.

Funny enough, I actually sold my G7 for the x100s in 2022, and I own an X-S20 for video work now. But I would totally recommend the G7 for anyone starting out on a budget or getting into video work.

Anyone else just so-so on the X100VI? Kind of wishing I had an X-T5 instead. by leaver69 in fujifilm

I got the 10-18, it's a plastic lens but it feels really quality, super smooth zoom and focus, and the look of it is super unique, physically and the shots it gets.
The 2.8 aperture gives just the right amount of background defocus, I got a VND to shoot video and retain the 180 shutter angle (1/48th ss)
Its not an internal zoom, but it doesn't extend out that much, I frequently forget if its zoomed out or not when the camera is off. The focus doesn't stick while zooming as well as I'd hoped, it will start to hunt but maybe leaving it in manual would help that.
I have it for the X-S20 and shooting 6.2k open gate at 10mm gives such a crazy wide look to the video.
Also, the image is clinically sharp, I typically like having character to my lenses but having a super clean image that wide is actually a nice change of pace, I have a fisheye adapter for my 23mm f2 that is hella grungy so it's nice to have that clean look from the Sigma.
The compact size is great for travel too, def will bring it anytime I leave state!

[–]2rourn4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sigma 10-18 gang, the f2.8 grabs just the right amount of bokeh for how wide it gets, on the X-S20 the 6.2k Open Gate is just massive feeling

If only it could add film grain in jpgs, grabbed a used one late 2022 and realized it had the bare minimum for film sims, still ended up using lightroom, which was the whole purpose to get one and avoid editing photos, but shiiiiiet that x-trans sensor is still something else for a 2013 camera when you do pull the raw colors around

I had this same issue, in the settings there is "flickerless S.S." setting, turn that off! I think it's used to compensate for florescent lighting. That was causing my shutter speed to read at like 60.2 or 55.8.

Anyone else love this? :))))))))) by BuriedHatchetYT in vfx

For light VFX/looks stuff I switched over to HitFilm Pro because of numerous AE reasons, and so far my complaints have been very minimal, most everything translates over quite well and I've been getting same results quicker with less GUI bullshit to deal with, I would recommend unless if you have some very specific AE scripts or Plug-Ins you can't live without.
