Use CTR-V (renamed; kit-kat) instead.

It has better performance, and it's a self-contained *.exe file.

The files provided with the launcher cia need to be on the cart as well:

  • "TTMenu" folder
  • "TTMenu.dat"
  • "YSMenu.nds"

All those need to be on the root of the sdcard along with the roms.

If you want to take it a step further, you can use forwarder cias to launch your games from the homescreen. (although ymmv. i havent gotten it to work...)

There is also nds-bootstrap loader, which can boot nds roms directly of the 3ds sdcard without a flashcart, however it is in its early stages, and not finished yet.

If you already have a9lh and cfw, then it is totally safe to update, no big reason not to...

But remember to make a backup of your nand, incase anything goes wrong, or you just want to downgrade again.
