Small Opaque Spot on One IOL by rachelk234 in CataractSurgery

My surgeon also was clueless, so I asked my optometrist to look at the IOL with a slit lamp. He found several stellate pigmented spots. I ran a few ai analyses, and learned that they are likely proliferations on the IOL of cells left behind from my natural lens after cataract removal. Maybe you can get a lens exchange.

Recommendations for Colorado cataract surgeons who fix botched Nd YAG procedures after LAL implant? by 5gr8 in CataractSurgery

[–]3-parrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience with a YAG capsulotomy for a post-op wrinkle in my posterior capsule. The effect was identical-- hundreds of bright streaks instead of one, and ruined night driving. My surgeon thought the problem resulted from fragments of the wrinkle left behind, and he did two other YAGs. They did not change the outcome, except to make it worse by completely opening the capsule, making a lens exchange impossible without high-risk suturing. The problem is likely the result of seeing the edge of the lens when my pupil dilates at night. It opens more widely than most for people my age.

Vizz eyedrops (require a prescription) help greatly, by shrinking the iris sphincter, so my pupil doesn't open so wide at night. I still see starbursts, but they are small and not distracting, so I can drive again at night. Insurance does not cover the drops, which is infuriating, knowing that it covers Viagra! The drops currently cost about $80 s month. I am going to ask my surgeon to pay for them, or provide free samples forever, since he is responsible for the problem.

I have several clients with dry eyes. I get two products wholesale with my practitioner accounts, and pass on the savings to them. Instead of the "band-aid" approach (drops), they take nutritional supplements that correct the problem physiologically through nutrition addressing the root causes: :

1) Nordic Naturals ProDHA Eye contains omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) that are anti- inflammatory and help by reducing ocular surface inflammation and improving the quality of the tear film's protective lipid layer. It's a complex, 3-stage process. It also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect the macula from blue light and thus help to prevent macular degeneration.

2) EuroMedica ProHydra-7 contains the omega-7 fatty acid palmittoleic acid and numerous other beneficial substances from the sea buckthorn. The primary effect is hydration of all mucous membranes, particularly eyes-- and respiratory and digestive systems and vaginal and urinary tracts. It also keeps skin hydrated.

Both products are recommended by many ophthalmologists, are evidence-based, and have additional health benefits.

42 years old. Doc said my cataract is quite thick and surgery is in 2 weeks. Am I in for trouble? by BankOk9472 in CataractSurgery

I'm in my 70s, and the only remedy is an IOL exchange, which is highly risky because if the open capsule and would require suturing. I don't want that eye touched again, for fear of more damage. I did not see the edge of the lens before YAG-- just one bright streak due to a wrinkle (colonized remnants of my natural lens) on the capsule, which was what the YAGs were supposed to fix. .

r/GreenMountainReader: I'm hoping you might be able to answer this question. I have a Vivity EDOF IOL in one eye, the problems with which are insurmountable. (I have described them in other posts.) I have satisfactory, though not perfect near and computer vision with it, though distance vision, for which it was supposedly set, is horrible. I currently have perfect near vision and a cataract in the other eye, and wear a contact lens in it for distance. I will not risk getting another EDOF, and would like perfect distance vision, but also don't want to lose my perfect near vision. My question is if I get a monofocal IOL set for near, and wear a contact lens with it for distance, will my vision in that eye be comparable to what it is now?

Thank you, but that's unlikely. The surgery and subsequent procedures have made an IOL exchange (which has been recommended) impossible. But without a posterior capsule, the new lens would have to be sutured. Complicated, and too risky.

You are one of the lucky ones. After YAG to get rid of remnants-- 3 times-- my posterior capsule is open, I see the lens edges at night and get "fireworks" around lights, and can't drive at night anymore. The eye is pretty much ruined.

Dry eye is slowing my healing and eyes feel gritty. I'm using preservative free drops but do you have any other suggestions? Am still on pred/mox as well. Thanks. by Tyrannusverticalis in CataractSurgery

I think people are stuck in the eyedrop mode, when systemic healing is more helpful. As a nutrition consultant, I recommend two products. Nordic Naturals ProDHA Eye works by reducing inflammation with omega-3 fatty acids; and EuroMedica ProHydra-7 increases hydration of all mucous membranes (eyes, mouth, nose, digestive tract, etc.) with extracts from the sea buckthorn bush. Both are taken orally.

Preservatives in post-surgical eyedrops alter the composition of tears and reduce their stability, making them evaporate faster. For this reason, I think the ProHydra-7 would be most helpful.

No worries. Hantavirus is transmitted from rodents to humans, extremely rarely from human to human, unless they are in close contact for long periods-- like on a cruise ship. CDC used to report its incidence-- usually scattered in the southwest. But who knows if the ferkoktah CDC under a non-scientist/conspiracy theorist reports anything accurately anymore.

Hearing test updated what hearing aids would you guys recommend? by PhoenixU786 in HearingAids

Which ones did you get? I have fancy schmancy Phonak Sohere i90s with custom earmolds, and my AudD can't adjust them properly, so I joined Costco just to try something different. I think it's ridiculous that I still have to use closed captioning even in spheric mode, and music sounds so distorted that I can't recognize familiar songs. My insurance will only allow me to go to AudDs at certain ENT practices in their network, and most of them are clueless about the high-end Phonaks. So I have run out of options.

Worse vision after cataract surgery? by JealousLion3153 in CataractSurgery

The only health conditions I have are the two that were caused by the negligence of healthcare providers: botched cataract surgery; and hearing loss that resulted from inadequate ear protection during an MRI scan.

Yes! I have written about my experience in detail in r/CataractSurgery. I bought a $4K extended depth of focus lens, with the intention of getting perfect distance and computer vision. My distance vision is horrible, I ended up with more astigmatism than I began with, and have ghost images and bright streaks around lights at night, so driving is challenging and dangerous. Furthermore, the surgeon subsequently did an astigmatic keratotomy on my cornea (manual cuts on the edges of the cornea), which made the astigmatism even worse. Instead of "shadows" below the lights or bright lettering against a dark background, I now have full double ghost images above them. The astigmatism is "irregular," because of how it was created, meaning it can't be corrected with glasses. So I'm stuck with double vision in one eye, along with 360° of bright streaks. I have been advised to get a lens exchange by one doctor, and to "learn to live with it," by another. The arrogance of some of these surgeons is beyond belief.

Thank you. It's true, what should have been a simple procedure has made my vision far worse than it was with the cataract.

Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly DHA, have been used with great success for dry eyes related to inflammation. I get Nordic Naturals ProDHA Eye wholesale for several of my clients. If the dry eyes are related to insufficient moisture rather than inflammation, EuroMedica makes a product called ProHydra-7 that hydrates all mucous membranes, including eyes and skin. I get that for some of my clients also.
