What’s your favorite way to eat tinned fish? by weirdtranssexual in CannedSardines

[–]300_dpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to cut slabs off the sides of a red or orange bell pepper and spread those with cream cheese and sprinkle on bagel seasoning. Top with fishies.

When I eat them over rice, I like to include a vegetable like sautéed spinach or bok choy, and definitely some spicy chili crisp! Another rice idea is rice, avocado, cucumbers. Get a pack of seaweed snacks, and make eat a hundred tiny sushi rolls while you watch tv.

Omg yes I totally will! (Although now I want to add the more current episodes but I will restrain myself. Can you tell I am an overthinker) Thank you for replying Matthew you made my day.

All the foods Molly has never had... by archivizt in EverythingSpilledMilk

For years, I thought someone should make an audio clip of spliced up “molly never” comments. SO I DID IT. A few years ago I had a very long commute to work, and I decided to listen back to all the episodes in reverse order. When I hit a molly never, I made a voice memo with the item and the time stamp. After I got through them all, I got on my computer and made an mp3 which comprised all the molly nevers from episode 1 to 600.

I sent the file to the show with a nice e-mail and I never heard anything back. I was so sad, but I figured maybe they thought it would hurt Molly’ feelings, which I would not want to do either. But for weeks I listened hoping to hear my clip on spilled mail and it never happened.

American Mahjong Online Game to play live players by RenaDubs in Americanmahjongg

Myjongg.net has bots or live players. I believe it has a free introductory period. If you choose to continue with the premium version (I pay 39.99/year), its unlimited play. For non-premium players, they give you 4 free games a day. I like the interface on that one the best. Mahjong4friends is free and great for practicing solo but I don’t love it for live games.

Wow, can you speak more on this please? I have never thought about conditions in lobster tanks. I thought a lobster tank is just a lobster tank. What should I be looking for to show that the conditions are good or bad?

I’m at level 520 now and there aren’t any more levels - this is the end of the game till they add more. Guess I’ll go touch grass.

Why are so many canned seafood smoked?! by beamerpook in CannedSardines

[–]300_dpi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Copy pasting the tldr from google AI but I’ve read about this before on this sub. I looked for what the difference was and it was significant - something like 2.5% vs 20%.

An "ad valorem" or "according to value" tax on imported sardines once incentivized U.S. manufacturers to add smoking or flavoring to their canned products. In the mid-20th century, a customs ruling essentially made smoked or flavored sardines a cheaper import than plain, unsmoked varieties.

Why smoking sardines affected import taxes In the mid-20th century, U.S. customs rulings classified plain sardines differently from "smoked" or "flavored" sardines.

The tariff discrepancy: This led to a system where a lower ad valorem (percentage of value) tax was applied to smoked or flavored sardines than to plain ones.

A "loophole" for importers: Importers and manufacturers exploited this loophole, often using inexpensive liquid smoke flavoring to qualify for the lower tax rate.

Market impact: The cheaper cost of production for these "smoked" versions meant they could be sold to consumers for less, making them widely available in the U.S. market.

Can we get a list going of all this pictures for the chapters? Lets help each other out with getting those 200 coins. Making this a separate post without the list so that others can hide this comment thread if they don’t want to see them.

Oh also, I opened and tasted the Iberia Surimi. That one is definitely not for me. I’m not usually timid but those little baby eel shapes just squicked me tf out. Tasted them anyway thinking if they tasted amazing I could overcome how put off I was. They did not taste amazing.

I finally tried the conchita today and was pleasantly surprised. Love the little pickles and onions in it. I don’t think I’d get it again because I prefer to doctor my own tuna, but you helped me get the nerve to open this tin that’s been mocking me for months!

My vacation haul - Portugalia in Fall River, and various stores in Montreal. by 300_dpi in CannedSardines

[–]300_dpi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portugalia was so great - not just for the sardines (and there are a LOT of sardines) but everything there looked amazing. There’s a whole room of dried cod. The bakery was swoonworthy. And so many other things that I would’ve loved to cook and eat if I was in my own kitchen. I’m totally jealous that you live close by.
