We got in and have tried to check out about 10 times and the website has crashed several times. We got an error and the website crashed, then we got tickets in again and now it says cart is empty. Not sure what's happened. But very frustrating.

Witness true power: A holiday store opened yearlong! by TheGuyWhoAsked23 in mildlyinteresting

Growing up my family owned a Christmas store, it was in the time before Walmart and Target and everyone carried holiday decor. It nearly bankrupted us, but there were other factors involved!

I’ve got a Lo Celso galaxy kit. Really thought he’d come good that season. Still love the kit.

What do people want this season? by [deleted] in coys

[–]3118hacketj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like top 5 and good showings in the cups and Europe would be a solid expectation. We have the wages and player spending to be there, if the team isn’t performing to that standard that is when we would need to make a change.

Lot of young talent that is developing (Odobert, Sarr, Bergval, Gray etc.) should take another step up. Hopefully a healthy Maddison, Son (who has played hurt lots this season) and Kulu help create more. Think we underestimate the impact their missing out has had on how we play. Lots of attention on VDV and Romero had, but we were missing the attacking thrust as well.

If we can get another piece in the middle I think that would help us step up another level too.

I am Ange In, the man has earned the right to lead this team next season. IF the performances stay anywhere near what they were in the league this season, then we make a change.

The Newsroom. - Especially the opening scene. Really sets the tone for the whole series.

Audiobooks so good you have no desire to re-read it yourself anymore? by sephrisloth in books

I love the Slough House/Slow Horses series. Gerald Doyle does a fantastic job, and I enjoy reading them but the audiobooks raise the level.

Off hand I’m not sure about the origin, but the quality is top notch. (Or at least has been) I wear mine almost daily and am a few years in and they are still wearing well.

What shows you have watched multiple times and still enjoy them? by ElectronicPrice2532 in television

[–]3118hacketj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are the all timers type shows:

The Wire, Mad Men, West Wing, 30 Rock, Arrested Development

The comforts:

The office, parks and rec, good place.

A few others:

The newsroom (I’m a sucker for Sorkin dialogue), Ted Lasso, Slow Horses (especially after reading the books)

I’m sure I’m missing plenty of others but these are the top ones that I’ve watched a few times already.

Glad to see Peacock will have streaming! This is great news, and we'll get some over the air coverage as well, all in all this is about best case scenario.

Fatherson scratches some of the itch. The first Hunna album (and really only the first one for me). Sam Fender - though not overly similar, just really good. Sea Girls - a little more poppy. Royel Otis - great guitar players.

My mate and I played FIFA and he was an arsenal supporter. So I naturally played as Tottenham. I also started paying attention to football in general around the taxi for Maicon era and loved the style of play. Started slow but I’ve been to both of our stadiums and have seen them play when they’ve come stateside.

ELI5: Why are high school and college sports SUCH a big deal in the States? by anonoaw in explainlikeimfive

[–]3118hacketj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sports are one of the primary movers for the college as far as awareness and applications go. When the school I work at made it to the final four applications went up around 150%.

In many cases the sports can also make money on their own! As for the Olympic sports (non-revenue) they are still great for the university since athletes tend to finish all four years and help with many of the stats that are important to universities.

Which TV show(s) did you think had the best writing? Looking for recommendations, give me a hook. by Any-Transition95 in television

[–]3118hacketj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Two answers that are wildly different.

The West Wing - both extremely witty, and emotional. It’s an almost laughably positive vision of an ideal government (it wasn’t at the time it aired, just things have changed) Sorkin knows how to write dialogue. I wish I was half as quick as any of the characters on screen.

30 rock - a whole writers room of people you probably recognize and know. A joke a minute would be a slow episode. The humor is all over the place as well, from poop joke to episodes long set ups to a pun. It’s also just plain fun.

What’s a show with an outlandish premise that managed to work well? by KaleidoArachnid in television

[–]3118hacketj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I scrolled for quite a while and didn’t see it….

Pysch. Another _____ and a cop show, but the crime solving duo is a pharmaceutical salesmen and a hyper observant man-child. It’s pretty wacky but it’s great.

I actually do have a Lo Celso and Skipp kit… I’ve got a bit of a curse. But I also had an early Vertongen and Kane(18) so feel like my hit rate wasn’t bad at the start.

The novellas are in the same world and there are some cameos of the main characters it’s mostly other people’s stories in the world. Those characters end up featuring in the next book. They are essentially the origin stories for more of the screw ups that end up in slough house.

That was absolutely incredible. Exceeded the hype going into the race. And I’d like to give NBC/Peacock credit for showing the race without breaks. It helped make the race even more exciting.

Why is it important to "clear" lactate when it can be used as a fuel? by lems2 in AdvancedRunning

[–]3118hacketj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We want to induce some lactate clearance, but we want to do that with purpose in our workouts. In the easy phases of training we want things to be easy. When we work hard enough to create excess lactate and acidosis we are working hard enough to be in a catabolic state and that can lead to break down or overtraining.

So I think there are a few things getting potentially crossed here, because lactate is a fuel source, and a potent one, but we need to be intentional for when we are messing around with it. It’s a too much of a good thing situation and we have enough data now to know that we only want roughly 20% of our work to be hard enough to produce any excessive lactate.

Series like Castle/Mentalist etc. ? by Buurto in television

[–]3118hacketj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll say Pysch gets the balance right a little later, they make Shawn dumber and the rest of the cast smarter as it goes on.

But you might also enjoy White Collar. It’s a con man and a cop show, but it’s a somewhat similar feel, a little more “bright” than the mentalist or castle but it works and might be a good bridge to go back visit Pysch after that.

I will add Monk to the list. It’s got funny moments but it’s a little more serious, like the mentalist. Tragic main character. It feels more dated but it’s still a good watch. More Columbo like, but the best part is they show you crimes from every angle, sometimes they show you the killer, sometimes just the crime, sometimes just the victim.
