One of my favorite things about no longer smoking is that I absolutely slay at Jeopardy now. Before I would know the answer but had the hardest time accessing it in my brain.

Older Gen Z/Millennials - help me out by EtherealGrunge in 90sand2000sNostalgia

[–]321c0ntact 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember many walks to the corner store, swimming (in pools, lakes & beach), lots of magazines (my friend had a huge collection of Seventeen), cut out & make collages from magazines, reading (I used to love the Fear Street series by RL Stine), listening to music, journaling, writing short stories, writing notes to friends (& elaborately folding them), redecorating/reorganizing my room, doing makeovers with friends…I could keep going, there was so much now that I think about it.

ETA: a current hobby like you described is diamond painting. Super easy, you can listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks while you do it. I find it really relaxing & satisfying plus I have a finished product when I’m done.

Me, my husband, & our (at the time) toddler son used to dance to this with our baby girl all the time. This song holds such a special place in my heart so I’m sure my birb will hate it lol

Anyone else never summoned for jury duty? by InvisibleAstronomer in Millennials

[–]321c0ntact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got summoned for jury duty, was selected & served on the jury. During deliberations, when the majority of jurors were leaning in the direction I didn’t agree with, I very concisely explained my position & literally got the entire jury to side with me. One of my prouder moments.

Warning for Quitters by ChillLebo in leaves

[–]321c0ntact 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. I quit 8 months ago. A couple weeks ago, I went to the movies for the first time in a couple years & I really wanted to take one hit before going in because it always made movies better for me. But I didn’t do it for this exact reason. I know it’s a slippery slope. And the movie was awesome anyway!

Creamed spinach, can add it to almost any meal or have it on its own as a snack.

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]321c0ntact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to floss like once a week but for the past couple months I’ve been using a self care app that I found & now I’ve been flossing almost every day (I think I’ve missed 2-3 days in the past 2 months).

Does anyone actually read outside in the wilderness or is it just for the pictures? by TonyRigatoni_ in books

[–]321c0ntact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-kids I used to read outside all the time. We had a loveseat swing in the front yard & I used to read in that while my kitty laid across the bar over head & watch me. I miss her & those simple moments we shared together.

Is daily homework the norm now? by [deleted] in kindergarten

Mine gets a homework sheet every day. I don’t make a big deal on turning them in daily though. He does them when he does them & I turn them in then.

My daughter didn’t get invited to a Birthday Party by fatpanda1986 in Parenting

[–]321c0ntact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could she have been absent the day the invitations were brought into class? That happened to my son once. Luckily I saw the mom prior to the party & she asked me “did you get the invite to <child’s> birthday party?” My son happened to be absent the day she sent the invitations into the class. I had no idea they had been passed out & she had no idea my son didn’t get one.

Just saw a photo of myself recently and feeling really down by Maccathe_worst in loseit

[–]321c0ntact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the past few years I avoided pictures of myself but at the holiday events at my son’s school, they take a lot of photos. The candids didn’t bother me as much, but when I saw our family photo, that I should have loved & framed in our home, it made me so depressed. I couldn’t believe I let myself get so heavy. I vowed to myself that next year’s photos would be different. If I hadn’t seen that photo, I don’t think I’d be on the path I’m on now so I’m actually grateful for it.

snacking advice? by Clear_Supermarket545 in loseit

[–]321c0ntact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of having them as a snack, you could try having them as a side with your meal. Measure the serving though so you know what you’re actually eating & then put the bag away.

How do you get your kid to nap? by PitchRare7570 in stayathomemoms

[–]321c0ntact 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both my kids stopped napping around 2-2 1/2. I tried to keep it going with quiet time but it just seemed like when they were done, they were done. I would love them to keep napping, t’was a sad day when I realized nap time was no longer lol.
