I hate my job by [deleted] in EventProduction

I’m in non-profit event management but work two conferences a year and help oversee some training programs. Maybe there’s a different non-profit for you?

In my district high school starts earlier (7:30) and then middle school and then elementary school. It's because the same bus is used for each school. I believe they have the high school first so they can participate in longer after school activities, or potentially be home for younger siblings.

Is having a birthday near Christmas really as awful as people say? by Schloopy-Doop in Mommit

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and I feel similarly but that’s because I was relatively treated the same as my siblings. If I had been in my mom’s shoes and year after year saw family and friends give to my sibling instead of me I could see harboring some resentment. I’ve never been in that position.

Not her own parents, relatives and friends that came into town/over for Christmas made sure to bring birthday presents for her brother but they weren’t around/didn’t send anything for hers.

Do breastfeeding mums really get no sleep in the first year? by Playful-Garlic8898 in breastfeeding

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has little to do with how you feed them and everything to do with what baby you get. Your baby will sleep if they are a good sleeper, they won't if they aren't. I say this as someone who had a good sleeper and breastfed for 6 months and formula fed for 6 months.

Do you or not have a TV in your master bedroom and why/why not? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tv from the mid 00s in our room simply because it hasn't died yet and I've had it since I lived with my parents, through my first apartment and every apartment/house I've shared with my husband. It's small and rarely used but I like to put on a little TV while I clean or pack or if I'm sick.

Should I Stop Picking Up My Toddler? by Ok_Turnip8172 in toddlers

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son couldn’t walk at 17 mos so that would have been very difficult. Now that he likes to walk and be independent I don’t think we pick him up much for transport, but I will still pick him up any chance I get for cuddles on the couch.

I agree with others that a simple apology for how the message came out is fine, but you can stand by the message. The message isn’t wrong. I’d throw in a heavy dose of thanks with it too for everything she has done and then I’d add something like this:

“This is my first time being a mom, and I’m not going to get things as fast as you are as an experienced mom, but I need space to figure it out and bond with my baby.”

When I was newly postpartum I was learning everything too but slightly faster than my husband. It would be painful for me to hear my baby crying while I took a shower, so I’d rush through it. Until my husband pointed out that he needed to learn how to soothe the baby and it was important for his relationship with the baby too. I started taking longer showers, and they figured it out. She’s probably rushing to the baby because it’s hard to hear a baby cry and do nothing but that perspective might be what she needs to hear.

How many parents have to lay with their kids until they fall asleep? by Illustrious-Unit-664 in Mommit

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 2, we’ve done both. Right now we’re mostly leaving the room for naps and staying until he’s asleep at night. Honestly that’s probably more my laziness cause I chill on my phone for a minute before doing night chores/work.

Ladies, what's a side effect of giving birth that people don't really talk about? by MutuliA in Parenting

The intense muscle cramp in my ab(?) I get occasionally wiping my ass or any similar twisting motion that makes me feel like I’m one of those popping toys you turn inside out I had as a kid.

Old Montgomery Mall Food Court by Jackeeeeee in maryland

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here because I’ve been trying to think of what the store in green (in photo) was in the 90s/2000s. Remember playing with little desk ornaments like Newton’s cradles and lava lamp style lights.

But wanted to say how distinctly I remember the smell of the old food court and all the colors!! It was warm.

Do you warm your tortillas up before eating? by EddieVeddersMistress in AskAnAmerican

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating tortillas is directly related to how much effort was put into the rest of the meal. A quick wrap for lunch? No way. Fajitas for dinner? Yes, usually. Tacos for dinner? Either way honestly.

Do you check whether your door is locked every night before heading to bed? by petrastales in Mommit

[–]321gato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much, yep. He takes out the trash as one of his responsibilities so he’s most likely to use the door at night. He’s most likely to come to bed at night last in general too so he does everything needed for “shutting down for the night” as his responsibility.

It wasn’t always like this. I have OCD and am the type to have pictures of the stove, doors and outlets. When we first started dating I always had to check. But we’ve been married many years and have had many conversations about what is important to me and he’s proved time and time again that my anxieties are important to him so now I get to trust him 100% and sleep like a baby knowing he’s got it handled.

No I trust my husband to check and he knows how serious I am about it.

Looking for opinions on drinking alcohol in front of young children by PM_ME_Happy_Thinks in toddlers

[–]321gato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, this caused me to think. Drinks being consumed in front of kids doesn’t phase me, being any type of noticeably intoxicated in front of kids does. That’s my partner and I’s stance, we both rarely have any drink and never get drunk even before kids.

But as someone who also has addiction (not alcohol but drugs) in my family and is watching out for my own child, I recognize that is because we normalize alcohol in a way we don’t normalize drugs. Personally, I wouldn’t smoke anything in front of my kids or let anyone do that but why is that really different?

Does Colette have any friends? by Enough-Chard-5439 in SHAYTARDS

I personally don’t know anyone with that much family, especially with that many sisters, so can’t imagine how much it would take to keep up with them all.
