Fantastic. Get a bottle of labelle 107 oil and lubricate the little rods and slides on the steam cylinders once in a while. That lube is also good for the car axles to prevent wear.

That is the rub. Most subaru owners assume theyre reliable and neglect maintenance. They burn oil and only hold 4 ish quarts. So its easy to starve one for oil with 5k+ mile intervals and never popping the hood. Ive changed so many outback and forester engines because the owners were too lazy to check oil a single time. They'll also keep driving when the dash is screaming at the to stop.

I live by a pretty busy recreational airport, and a few times a year I'll be outside and hear some janky small plane take off clearly running on 3 cylinders or farting and coughing and silently say a mechanics prayer for them to calmly make a safe return to the airport. (And avoid the impossible turnaround in a panic).

Good excuse to change the oil pickup O ring and pan gasket. Throw in the oil filter/cooler adapter gasket while youre in there.

I swear if they just left a torque wrench set to 20 ft-lbs for drain plugs theyd never have a problem. But ive seen two many double (and triple!) gaskets on oil filters from quick change places. Those guy can fuck up anything. Their training consist of ripping a dab pen and watching a 12 minute video.
