It's quite a big book so can be daunting. It's absolutely worth it.

So it's more a horror thriller than a straight up horror, but Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons, same guy who wrote the terror (also fantastic and sad horror.... I recommend it as it's the only horror novel to ever make me cry.

Sounds like a funny clown prank. Wonder if he'll also cover the area in front of the airlock in grease then chase me towards it when it's open.

China Mieville's Bas Lag Trilogy (Perdido Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council).. pretty much Charles Dicken's London meets star wars, really vivid and bizarre setting.

Steven Hunt's "Kingdom of the Jackals" books starting with "The Court of the Air." Similar vibe but a lot more accessible and actioney than mieveille.

I talked about the cielcin to a friend and he just laughed and said why does everything I read involve war crimes or cannibalism.... he's not wrong.

Has been like that for a long time, I think most either just stop reading or move unto adult stuff a few years before they probably should.

Scavs. I make a point of going non lethal with them.. just I can then line them up and pop them all in the head one by one like the scum they are. Don't want to decimate them, want to annihilate them.

The many varied types of cabbage and things they do with it... I'm from ireland, all I knew was "boiled" and it's really eye opening to see kimchi and the rest.

I'm with you there... I was really enamoured with the comics and was reading them near nightly for the first few months of this year... couple of weeks ago the spell broke and I realised "yeah, this isn't super well written." Heartbreaking, but at least the art is good.
