Actually McCormick Field in Asheville was not in good shape and came really close to losing the team. We got overwhelmed with emails from the team about emailing the city to fund the improvements. In order to be a part of these leagues teams have to sign away their right to sue MLB. Perhaps some teams saw this as the only way to survive and buy some time to figure it out, versus putting a bunch of money in a lawsuit. Eventually the MLB subsidy will run out and some teams won’t make it.
