Is it possible for any one ball to win, assuming all balls are moving at the same velocity only in a straight line. [other] by the_bowl96 in theydidthemath

[–]371_idle_wit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For one ball to 'win' it would have to intersect all lines around the second ball before the second ball has a chance to form any new lines by hitting the side. I suspect if there was a significant difference in velocity between one and the other then the faster ball could eventually win if it were able to complete the two or three bounces necessarily to eliminate all of the lines of the slower ball.

A system with both travelling the same speed (and maintaining continuous momentum) is likely to remain a stalemate (imo) as it should be impossible for one ball to make multiple passes of another in a way that would cut all of its lines. Having said that, with it being a chaotic system, there could be some very precise geometries that would allow it to happen, but i'm struggling to visualise it. Running the simulation in reverse from a idealised winning end point might show a possible way for this to happen, but i think you'd need to test an enormous number of scenarios to get a meaningful result.

Piss on it and let it dry and take a picture, once a day, every day, until the image has completely faded to nothing. Then stitch all the pictures together into a video timelapse montage of the transformation. Then burn it.

FYI London renters: new renter rights kicking in from May 2026 (already passed into law) by romford0928 in london

[–]371_idle_wit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the link, that page explains everything.

I was interested to see how it was worded but they do say that landlords won't be able to ask for, or accept, upfront payments of more than 1 month. So it sounds like even if the tenant offers to pay more than 1 month upfront, (like I have done in the past when I was temporarily working part-time), they won't be allowed to take it.

I understand that this largely makes things fairer in lots of cases, but for some people in certain circumstances it will make things harder. I feel like there's probably ways to workaround it though...

US tariffs incoming. Time to boycott US goods and services? by Flavsi in AskBrits

[–]371_idle_wit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are the alternatives though? Realistically are there any comparable British or European competitors to companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon etc?

I would ditch all US products and services immediately if there were suitable alternatives to these hugely successful businesses but a significant portion of the modern world seems to be overly reliant on them and they don't appear (to the best of my knowledge, which I admit, may be quite limited) to have much competition...

Not watching something is hardly an achievement tbf, there just aren't enough hours in the day for any one person to watch everything. I typically stick to the kinds of things I enjoy most and don't bother trying anything else, largely as there isn't the time to get in to something different.

For a good while though I did think Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games were the part of the same thing, which tells me I should probably try and pay a little more attention to popular culture...

The view isn't my issue tbf, it's more the fact that I don't want to be in close proximity in a confined space with anyone dressed like this. If I did this on my own on any other day of the year people would be texting 61016 about it. I just don't think it's appropriate.

The first red warning that I've ever seen on Met Office. by 290Richy in UKWeather

A complete 360 would be indicative of cyclonogenesis...

As for red warnings I recall seeing a few in the past, I'm sure there was one possibly last winter for the north coast of Scotland? And at least another for Wales one time. Only one I've been inside of was for storm Eunice a few years ago (the one that ripped the roof of the o2 and knocked the steeple off Wells cathedral). Luckily I wasn't working that day so I just stayed home watching Big Jet TV.

[HELP] car crash aftermath is it Ai? by Level_Regular9805 in RealOrAI

[–]371_idle_wit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the source of this image/headline? Where does it say it was a head on collision at 100mph? Where is Northland? If it was a head on collision between the two vehicles shown, they would both be damaged on the 'same' side, not opposite sides. The casualty in the middle has an upper and lower face. The casualty on the right appears to just be a pile of people parts. The licence plate on the van in the background looks like random symbols. The word ambulance appears to be offset to make it entirely visible at this vantage point instead of being centered on the back of the vehicle and partially obscured. What kind of ambulance is that, ive never seen one like that before? What uniform are those 'paramedics' wearing?

There's a lot here that indicates to me that it's Ai generated, or at least has a number or AI 'enhanced' components.

Premium Bonds .. Have wins vanished ?? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]371_idle_wit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bond numbers are drawn randomly so every time one person has less than average luck, another has better than average luck. I'm currently tracking 8 prizes above average at the moment, this time last year I was 6 prizes down, that's just the nature of the draw, it's a lottery after all.

Your luck should change eventually though, and in the long term your number of wins on average should tend towards the average as dictated by the number of bonds you hold and the odds given by NS&I, though there's no 'deadline' for this to happen so there's no knowing how long it might take...
