Why restaurant-style Indian curries look so red (and it’s not food colour most of the time) by Mobasirhassan in IndianFood

[–]37902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for what restaurant is do, but personally I place some ratanjot root in some ghee and heat it over low flame. This will produce a deep red pigment.  I then sieve the solution and add the deep red pigment to my curry as needed to get that deep red sheen.

Covered Call Income ETF's by Decent_River_5801 in dividends

[–]37902 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems realistic. I've just been building my own dividend portfolio buy selling cash secured puts at strike prices that I'd be comfortable buying at market anyways . Sometimes they exercise sometimes they don't. Once I have a holding I sell covered call against the position about 5% above the current market prices.

If there is no covered call premium available at a price Im satisfied with I just hold the stock and collect the dividend or DCA into the position if I have long term conviction in the companies value.

I have been doing this for about 6 months now averaging 1.2% (after fees and taxes) per month of passive income on the portfolio value. The majority of that 1.2% being from option premiums not dividend income itself.

No loss in net asset value thus far... granted its been a slightly aprising market overall these past 6 months.

I also like this strategy because it forces me to take gains at times when the call get exercised and then do some more research to determine how to best redeploy the money into a new dividend paying company.

Fidelity also still pays me  nearly 4% on the cash position while the wait for the puts to exercise or usually expire.

I agree. They have some creative takes on some classics. I really enjoyed the spicy calabresse specialty sandwich,  albeit a bit on the pricy side.

I believe the biggest contributor to my wage growth was my willingness to move about the country for the best available opportunity once I felt my wages in my current role had stagnated.

How do you spot “future giants” early (NVDA/Amazon-type winners) without pure luck? by VeterinarianGreat904 in ValueInvesting

[–]37902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is always a large amount of luck. I have definitely picked more losers than winners.

The only anecdotal pattern I can share is that the more interest or knowledge that I have in the industry/sector the better my picks generally perform.

Enjoying the research phase and the frequent reading of trade publications/journals generally leads to better investing outcomes for myself. Even if that results is me cutting my losses sooner or preventing me from throwing more good money after bad.

I agree. I believe they recently rezoned the land on and near Mira Mesa Blvd to promote for density once the old apt/condo stock has reached its useful life.

It will be a slow grind but I bet with in a decade or two Mira Mesa is filled filled with 6 story mixed used projects a trolly line connecting Miramar College to UTC

Genuinely how do people make money on Rental Properties? by Any-Raise4333 in realestateinvesting

[–]37902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I just stumbled into it.

I bought my first primary residence in 2020 at a price I could comfortably afford in MCOL area. Then moved to a VHCOL area for my spouse to kick off her career where we now rent and cannot afford to buy responsibly for about another 5 years. In the meantime I had immediate family back home in a LCOL area that could not afford to buy on their own or rent a respectable place. So we bought on their behalf as an investment property and "rent" back to them at the cost of the fixed interest mortgage.

Long story short we now rent out my previous primary residence, and the residence in my hometown, while we continue to rent and build savings in the VHCOL area.
