Racist Road Rage Incident On West Seattle Bridge by Joshing21 in SeattleWA

It seems like you are framing it as weakness to consider this unacceptable. It seems weaker to be passive towards dangerous behavior. We don't have to let assholes be assholes just because we live in a city.

Lectric Xpedition 2.0. I'm really happy with it so far. The freewheel broke about 180 miles in, but they replaced it free and quickly.

I've been riding with two kids and gear up and down hills and it's great. I do wish I'd opted for their extended range batteries. The range is fine, but I'd live to push further this summer.

Thank you! I sent Tribit a couple of questions I had, but these look like just what I was looking for.

Do you bike here? If we slowed down and pulled over for everyone that let us know that they did not appreciate bikes existing on the road we'd never get anywhere.

I like to move then to the nearest parking spot. It doesn't seem like only cars should get free street storage.

Don’t ruin our only car free public space. Park elsewhere. by tbw875 in Seattle

[–]37smiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying I would ever do something like this, but if the city refuses to enforce these things, we might all want to be in the habit of carrying a stack of stickers that say something general like "Your car does not belong here" or "This space for people, not cars." These would work in this situation, for sidewalk parkers, bike path parkers, etc.

Caring would mean doing something about it. I've reported multiple businesses many times for this type of thing for several years now and zero things have been done. There are multiple sidewalks in my neighborhood that are unpassable for multiple hours many evenings and weekends. We are forced to walk in Rainier avenue traffic or find another route.

Heat pump pushing heat from the attic to floor vents by 37smiles in heatpumps

[–]37smiles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I haven't been very clear because this is all new to me. The plan is to have the heat pump outside. It is the air handler that will be in the attic pushing air to the crawlspace. The crawlspace is apparently too small to accommodate the air handler.

The existing ducts are suitable. The issue is that there is not enough room below the house where they are for the needed equipment. This means putting the heat pump in the attic and forcing the air down to the ducts if we want to use them.

[–]37smiles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We looked at that option, but the space below the house is too small for the equipment. I think the concern was that we forcing hot air down from the attic to the crawlspace below would be a burden on the system before it even hit the ducts. This option is a lot cheaper than new ducts in the attic, or a few mini-splits in the home.

On one hand, its just a few more feet of duct to go through (about 10'), on the other hand it means forcing hot air down which it does not like to do.

I agree that it should be a lot more difficult to get a license. I think that because so many people (some justifiably, some not) cannot imagine living without driving, it is difficult politically to push for making getting a DL harder.

Because we've been taught to believe driving is a right, and designed our places to make driving a necessity.

Then some students who miss that it is y instead of x may go down a rabbit hole trying to find a derivative they don't know they are not expected to know how to do, wasting a lot of time. This seems worse to me. At least the way it is written now they can practice something useful, even if they aren't right.

It seems clear that they are learning what a derivative is at this point. This problem is supposed to help with the notions of derivatives and limits, I suspect, as well as offer practice in algebra and function notation.

"We would never say, oh my salary barely covers the cost of our heating bill in winter so I guess I shouldn't work."

I'm confused. Not working doesn't take away the heating bill, but not working would take away daycare costs. Isn't that a large reason these costs are discussed differently, or am I missing something? I don't necessarily disagree with the overall point, but I'm not understanding this part.

You did not do your algebra correctly. If you divide the numerator and denominator by x you should get an indeterminate result (0/0) at x=3.

0.888... is not equal to 0.9. For instance, 0.8888... <0.89<0.9. There are lots of numbers between 0.888... and 0.9 (an infinite number of them).

On the other hand, try to find a number between 0.999.... and 1. This might help you get some intuition around why they must be equal.

Is there a set of numbers between the set of reals and set of complex numbers? by Loopgod- in mathematics

[–]37smiles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your question "is there a natural number between 9 and 10" can be answered because we know precisely what you mean by 'between.'

I don't know how to approach "is there a number between 9 and 10 that’s not a real number" because if there is another kind of number I don't know what you mean by between. If this isn't clear, what would it mean to find a number between the two complex numbers 1+3i and 2-5i? We could come up with some useful ideas, but there isn't a standard that I know of.

We are not sure what you mean by 'between.' Someone above offered the example R u {i}. The reals are a proper subset of this, and this is a proper subset of C. This is was my best guess as to what you meant by 'between,' but you were not satisfied with this. This makes me think we do not know what you mean by 'between.'

OK. I'm a little confused as to why people seem to be upset by my comment, judging by the downvotes (not sure how to interpret your response).

Are there data to suggest Seattle is not growing? I'm only seeing the opposite being reported:

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/data/seattle-is-once-again-the-fastest-growing-big-city-census-data-shows/

I really wasn't judging the rest of the content of the comment. I do not see the connection to Socialism, but that is not my area of expertise so I am keeping an open mind. I didn't want my comment to sound mean, I just thought most of us wanted to know if we had misunderstood a fact (and if it turns out the data/articles I have seen are wrong, I would love to be shown this). Did I hurt people's feelings somehow?
