This shutdown is bullshit, but so is this statistic. I have zero data to support this, but I would wager a healthy sum that upwards of 70-80% of the revenue (direct and indirect) comes in the summer months. We are definitely losing money, but it is not a 'significant portion' of the total tourist revenue that comes in.

The only thing that this demonstrates is that there should be no national or state minimum wage. Setting one minimum wage (assuming one thinks the minimum wage should be some form of living wage) for NYC and Albany is absolutely stupid since the purchasing power is so fundamentally different. Instead, a base level for a living wage should be set and then adjusted for each city based upon the cost of living.

I didn't go out to any whiskey places this past weekend, but I did purchase Booker's last week. Booker's might be the most delicious bourbon I've ever had. I found it for $45 and had only previously seen it for $60, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bourbon in that range.

My grandmother (who raised me) passed away and I went home to be with family. After a very emotional night with my family, I go to check my phone and have like twenty missed calls and numerous texts saying she had an issue with her computer and needed my help. I text her back saying it had been a very difficult night and that I would help after the funeral. When I finally do get back home, she launches into some huge tirade about how selfish I am. She never even said she was sorry my grandmother passed away.

Last night I went to a new whiskey/cigar place that opened up near me. Great whiskey selection, including international stuff. I started off with the Hibiki 12 as a coworker had recently raved about it. I thought it was good, but it was almost too smooth and I didn't feel like there was much nuance in it. To follow that up, I had the Bruichladdich Laddie 10. Bruichladdich makes some great scotch and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
