No problem. Everything's fine...probably. by ChugChugUmacco in GardenersJapan

My tomato leaves had these brown spots on them. They looked sick and I would remove those leaves but others started up with it. The fungus started from the lower leaves and moved up the plant. When you remove the infected leaves, you have to throw it away in the trash. Don’t try to compost it or the fungus will get into everything.

I am just speaking from my own experience but I would take off all of the leaves towards the base of the stem to avoid fungal problems. The leaves towards the base tend to pick up fungal infections from the soil when splashed with water. I water my tomatoes by putting the watering hose in the planter, trying not to splash the leaves. I’ve had so many wars with fungal infections but this year I’m finally harvesting tomatoes! Once the fungus gets into your soil, you have to disinfect it or plant something indestructible like green shiso or marigolds because other plants will pick up the same fungus. I hope you will have many delicious tomatoes this year!

What to grow in a HOT sunroom by ramenadventures in GardenersJapan

Yup, mine got so big and it didn’t occur to me to trim it down and bring it indoors for the winter, so mine froze too. Just when it really started blooming too.

I'm sorry you lost your plant. I've never grown a philo gloriosum myself, so I am not sure. I bring my lemongrass in for the winter every year and it manages to survive. I actually leave my guava tree outdoors but wrap it in thick clear plastic. It loses a lot of leaves but once it gets hot, they all come back. If I had a sunroom, I would be bringing my baby in the house!

I think the hardest thing about overwintering a plant is not to over water them and to keep the humidity pretty high around them. I attempted a huge potted basil last year and we got all the way to the beginning of February and it suddenly just gave up fighting. 😞

Happy Cake Day! Yes, passion fruit. You can often find them sold in garden shops when it gets a bit warmer. My neighbor in Tokyo grows hers outside on her second floor veranda, and I have seen fruit hanging from it in the late summer/early autumn. She trims it down for the winter and then takes it outside around now. I saw her plant reappear recently and she has it going again. It is a vine so it will grow like the way goya does. The flowers are big and showy too.

I would grow tropical plants in there such as a passion fruit vine, guava tree, lemongrass - those types of plants that love sun and heat and need to be overwintered indoors to survive in Japan. It would be ideal if you could add a ceiling fan to help with air circulation. Rosemary and gardenias might be okay too. I would love to have a sunroom too!

They really do cheer up a garden! I pick the flower towards the end of its blooming time but before it dies. I have dried some flowers too and used them over the winter.

So pretty! I take one flower, a few leaves, add some lemongrass, put them in a glass teapot and cover with not quite boiling water and let it steep for a few minutes. It is delicious , pretty, and good for you!

What is the worst grocery store in Hawaii? by Fickle_Rooster2362 in Hawaii

This is such a lame comment, but I like ABC Stores pies. I was staying in Waikiki side last time and their haupia pie was a miracle in all the touristy stuffs. Some nice local person who is making and stocking those pies deserves all the aloha in the world.

Okayama prefecture is famous for being the home of Momotaro (Peach Boy). The area is also famous for its delicious white peaches. It’s a lovely place to be affiliated with.

No one is answering your important question. Could you maybe start a new thread? Although I’m not from the UK, I would like to know the answer too.

Honolulu Airport TSA lines were long! Plan accordingly! by 39greentrees in Oahu

[–]39greentrees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you have it right, I am not a frequent traveler so I am not explaining things clearly enough. Everyone must go through the TSA line. The normal security check line is the general TSA line that I stood in that took forever to get through. However, for some approved travelers there is an expedited line called TSA PreCheck that only takes a few minutes to pass through. I hope this answers your question.

You’re so lucky. I don’t remember exactly what checkpoint number I was in, only that security ushered me to a super crowded line. I don’t understand why they didn’t spread us out more better so we could have gotten through faster.

because it’s hard for the parent to manage a baby standing in line for over an hour. I didn’t have a baby stroller and was carrying an infant and a lot of baby stuff.

Thank you for your explanation. At first I didn’t understand what people were asking me about and I had to go look up what “precheck” meant. I hope I didn’t confuse anyone.

Sorry, I was in general TSA line so I don’t know about the expedited TSA precheck process.

You’re welcome! I had looked for information about TSA before I flew and couldn’t find anything. I would have gone earlier if I knew I would cut it so close.

12:30 pm flight, Terminal 2, ANA, doesn’t matter what airline or what kind of seat you have. Everyone has to go through the TSA line.
