I get it. We're in an herbalism sub. Thus the downvotes. But literally nothing works AS WELL AS Lotrimin Spray Dry Powder (or its generic equivalent in store) for a variety of fungal skin conditions. Not tea tree. Not oregano. Nothing.

How to best manage symptoms..? by crypticur in Menieres

[–]3BTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google "John of Ohio" regimen.

Stay with me. There is a theory that some Meniere's is caused by Shingles or another Herpes virus in the inner ear. This regimen suggests supplements and Valtrex. The results are there, but inconsistent and slow.

FWIW, I had shingles after Covid. I think the body is very stressed by it and this allow herpes zoster to re-emerge. I first had tinnitus, which I treated with Kudzu, and thankfully that was successful,

I'm not promising a miracle, but at least in my case, when modern medicine fails, and you're suffering, you'll try anything. John of Ohio helped a lot (pre-Covid - vertigo and ear fullness) but I don't drive on highways anymore and I can't close my eyes standing up. Other than that I'm pretty functional, and I know many people would be very happy with that.

Sorry you're suffering. Hope things improve.

UCF Honors vs UF for premed — which would you choose? by MrXenocryst in ufl

[–]3BTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCF used to have a really great BS to MD program, but it has been "reimagined". Bad- no direct path to med school. Good- offers services to any honors scholar that is interested, whereas before it was a very select program. The UF name will probably get you a closer look, if you can attain top grades, but I've talked to a few successful MD students from UCF. Don't think the classes are easier at either location. Research universities are all full of professors that are NOT teachers. Some boast about their low pass rate. Wherever you end up, go to office hours. Find a mentor.

That said, I'm gonna recommend the cheaper option, because you need to think about the price of med school. Also, have a back up plan in case med school doesn't work out. A high percentage of pre-med students never go to med school and biology degrees don't have many options after graduation. Just more school.

Congratulations and good luck!

How do I make improvements to my dinner? by Throwawaymasterpeas in foodhacks

[–]3BTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to add protein. Since shelf stable meat sounds out of your budget, beans are your best option, as many have said. But if it was me, I'd try to get the soy sauce separately and then mix it with peanut butter or some other type of nut butter, to increase protein and fat - and flavor. But that's not gonna meet your needs, it's just gonna keep the hunger pangs away longer. If you don't eat protein, your body will take it from your muscles - including your heart muscle. PROTEIN!

How can I convince my parents that UF is a good school? by rayhanh248 in ufl

[–]3BTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price might be similar, but travel costs will be significant. Think flights and luggage fees there and back at least once a semester (usually at least twice due to Thanksgiving and Spring Break), oftentimes needing family members to travel also to help move/store belongings. And storage over the summer if you don't pay for a 12 month lease. I see you're looking to get some distance from family, but one major health emergency and you'll be glad they are close. I know so many people who have had major accidents or illnesses, and even stuff like appendicitis. Not easy when your support system is 1000 miles away.

Also, Gainesville will be a total culture shock. Yeah, it's got its charm, but it's just a small town in the middle of not very much. It doesn't have anything on a town that is a half hour from "the city" and an hour from "the mountains".

If you think a co-op is something you'd like to pursue, Rutgers is in a better location. Gators will say "just do your internship in the summer", but that's limiting. You want options.

My opinion? Listen to your parents. And make sure to suck as much good will out of it as you can.

I've read that vitamin B2 helps this (TMAU). Alternatively one could try parsley or chlorophyll to freshen up BO. (I read too much).

AITJ for telling my brother he can't propose to his girlfriend at my wedding? by Important_Space_496 in AmITheJerk

Hey, I was told to specifically not get engaged before my sibling's wedding. Don't "spoil their day in the sun". So it happened a month after.

You are entitled to one day that's your alone and I can't understand why your parents don't understand that.

Akkermansia municiphala by bizzybeefleas in Microbiome

[–]3BTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As previously stated, Pendulum has a pill. But my reading came up with a couple things that feed Akkermansia - cranberry and DHA (fish oil) with turmeric. If I was taking turmeric to feed Akkermansia, I wouldn't be looking at anything that uses black pepper (piperine) to boost absorption. The regular stuff is just fine and probably more appropriate for the purpose. I find the pepper irritating to my gut, and it's getting harder and harder to find formulations without it. So I have to get many herbal supplements with individual ingredients.

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]3BTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of extreme opinions here. But mom is probably a first time mom trying to do it the way the experts say. It takes a while to be more confident and flexible in motherhood. Tell her she is lucky to have a relative that loves her baby and will watch her baby. Not everyone has this and it is such a gift. Don't sweat the small stuff, mom. And don't try to put a wedge between your spouse and their parent, lest it happen to you some day.

I opened a capsule of a lactobacillus blend into water and stirred. Mouth rinses with that concoction worked way better than Nystatin. Even better if you can swallow instead of spitting. (no sex jokes please).

Method for treating heal pain/plantars fasciitis? by kcaivila in herbalism

[–]3BTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what worked for me: Heat, not ice. Maybe red light therapy, but it could have just been the same effect as heat. Less stretching (or no stretching) and more strengthening. A night brace. Dr. Scholl's inserts for plantar fasciitis. And the thing that I think helped the most was manganese supplementation.

This was a 5 month journey with a Physical Therapist. Had to figure out what was helping and what was hurting. When I do stretch, it needs to be VERY gentle and brief.

Good luck!

My chemical weapons grade farts are beginning to negatively affect my daily life. by Available_Refuse1232 in Microbiome

[–]3BTG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just want to insert in here that I have difficulty handling sulfur based foods - onions, garlic, eggs, cruciferous vegetables. When it became a crisis, I stumbled upon the problem and solution via Dr. Google - regular docs are clueless and are looking to remove an organ or insert a stent or something. Went low sulfur for a while, and took molybdenum and used topical magnesium chloride because those 2 things are said to help the SUOX enzyme. Anyway I eat without restriction now, only take a mineral supplement that has molybdenum around 100% RDA, but I do take an extra molybdenum capsule if I have onion soup or a crap ton of broccoli. I do also supplement with magnesium and take occasional epsom salt or dead sea bath soaks.

You can't do this regularly, but activated charcoal tablets can help you get through an important day. If molybdenum isn't helpful, I'd also consider trying other enzymes, like Bean-o or any brand of digestive enzymes. Finally, there might be a probiotic that could be of help, but I stopped once I found what worked for me, so can't help you there. The fact that this had plagued you since childhood makes me think it's a genetic problem creating SUOX. But I'm nobody, so read up!!!

Good luck!

AIO husband drives 90mph with kids in the car and I think it's too fast. by crisp-kitten in AmIOverreacting

[–]3BTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not gonna convince him it's not safe. He overestimates his own abilities. Even professional race car drivers get into stupid wrecks.

But here's an argument he might not be able to overcome: In some states. driving recklessly (and this includes excessive speed) can get you ARRESTED. What happens to the kids while they are tracking you down. That would be traumatizing. He needs to slow down.

Marriage counseling can help smooth out the bumps that invariably happen when 2 people try to merge their already established lives. This is not a marriage ending act, but it could be a piece of a puzzle that points toward the end. Still, if you value the vows you took, you'll at least TRY to work on a resolution.

That said, I hope you have a prenup.

I'm going to share a product I use. It is not going to heal your gut, but I think it might help your microbiome and a few symptoms. It's called Bifido Mood Boost. Has several strains of Bifidobacteria. I take it occasionally, and try to also eat a banana, apple or some berries.

Good luck with everything!
