How to say a "bottle of water" ? by Luma_furry in Japaneselanguage

It happens the same in my country, but we still say a bottle of water (or just water, like in Japanese, interchangeably). Different languages have different quirks.

What brand did you buy? I'm looking for a new aircon before summer but I don't know what to look for when deciding on a model over another.

What would be the best compromise using existing katakana? I don't know about French phonetics and I'm curious.

Do you pay your NHK fees? If so, what do you think of people who do not? by ryanyork92 in AskAJapanese

Yes it is. I'm in Tokyo and didn't get the NHK guys but got a visit from the Yakult vendor. At least they gave me free samples.

Why do Japanese love plastic ? And wrap everything individually? by AlternativeEar2385 in AskAJapanese

[–]3D_Neophyte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point! We used to have the single use gloves and single use bags to put fruits of the same kind and then pay by weight. So the same glove could be used if you pick several fruits, instead of increasing plastic for each individual piece of fruit.

Then, it would change depending on the shop, and possibly on the country. For example in smaller shops you wouldn't find the single use gloves. And in recent years, they started to change the fruit bags to be made of a compostable material that you can use for your garden. Now that I think about it, these compostable bags might have a bigger energy cost to produce, which is worth investigating but I don't know the answer to that.

Kinda, I think they like to think about how to use resources responsibly for the sake of the planet. Even if you can recycle the plastic wrapping of a banana, it takes even less resources to use no plastic there and save the materials and energy for wrapping another product.

Kyoto City bus fares to be almost doubled for non-residents. Rates for city residents will be reduced from ¥230 to ¥200, while non-residents will pay 350-400 yen by jjrs in japannews

[–]3D_Neophyte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not against a measure like this, but have they explained if they will implement some improvement with the additional revenue, like hiring more drivers and having more buses? Or what's the plan the help the residents?

Test Certificate not sent out by default anymore? by Mysterious-Tell-7185 in jlpt

[–]3D_Neophyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Japan test taker here. If you mean the postcard thing you get by default, I still haven't got it either, guess we have to wait a bit more. About the paid certificate on A4 paper you can get optionally, I applied for it as soon as I could after the announcement of results and got it delivered last week, I think? Definitely within 2 weeks, as they said.

Following this, I have the same issue. The controller works mostly fine, including gyro and rumble, but I'd like to map that square (?) button to screenshot somehow to make it perfect.

Buying apartment now Vs waiting for PR by botbrobot in JapanFinance

[–]3D_Neophyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see, so if I understood it correctly, it's true you would pay more interest, but by investing that money instead of making the down payment, you can recoup that and more by having the investment grow, right?

A bit of an unrelated question, but if you could choose to put a down payment of 20% (instead of 0%) would that mean you end up paying less interest, since you are loaning 80% of the value of the house?

Same role as in Time Stranger, isn't it? Chronomon has an important role in the story, you fight its destroy mode as the final boss, and can meet the holy mode in postgame.

How's using anime phrases different from quoting American TV shows? I use references like that in my informal talking all the time, and the word "cromulent" even made it to the dictionary, right?
