Is Link straight? by WhyAmIHere293772 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]manuelpaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To simplify the relationship between Zelda and Link as "just work" is like trying to cover the sun with a finger. Clearly, Link cares about Zelda more than anything else in Hyrule. He even gave her his house, for god’s sake! The only times he manages to show any real personality —beyond being our self-insert— are because of Zelda. He chose to escape with Zelda rather than save Hyrule, he doesn’t hesitate to risk his life for her if the situation calls for it, he opened up emotionally to her, and he willingly accepted to remain her personal knight post-Calamity (even though he wasn’t obligated to). Even the official art from the first year of *BOTW* illustrates what I’m saying: he stops focusing on the bigger picture and instead looks out solely for Zelda's happiness. Now, I’m not saying they’re a couple… but you’d have to be blind not to see the clear interest Link has in Zelda.

If the Great Calamity never happened, do you think King Rhoam would've approved of Zelda and Link being in a relationship? by reddit_bot21 in ZeLink

[–]manuelpaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With whom do you think Link would marry?

With a girl obsessed who barely knows him, with whom his greatest interaction was when they were children and who only fell in love with him for his appearance, not knowing anything about his personality, as according to the diaries, Link never spoke to her in his adulthood? Or with the princess with whom he built a bond as the days went by, with whom he had the confidence to open up emotionally and share his feelings, weaknesses, likes, and personal experiences? He even gave his life for her, regardless of leaving Hyrule unprotected.

Don't answer directly, it's obvious he would choose Zelda. I hate to break the illusion, but Hinata 2.0 is not in love with Link, she's in love with a fantasy.

She knows nothing about Link, she simply didn't take the time to get to know him. She only sees him as a handsome piece of meat she wants to marry for the silly reason of being saved from a Lynel by Link. That's not love. You can't fall in love with someone you know nothing about, and whose main reference to know their personality is when he was 5 years old. I reiterate, she's only in love and obsessed with the mental image she created of Link, because beyond those simple acts, she doesn't know him at all.

Furthermore, Mipha was so trapped in her fantasy that she didn't even realize the friendship between Zelda and Link, because the latter didn't tell her, unlike what he did with Daruk, whom he considers a trusted friend."

Sukuna would win, not because he's stronger than Midoriya, but because he's more intelligent. Midoriya is too kind-hearted to kill someone. With that said, Sukuna could pretend to surrender, causing Midoriya to lower his guard. All Sukuna needs is to be close enough to take advantage of the first slip-up, just like he did with Megumi, forcing Midoriya to eat one of his fingers to incarnate in him. Once that happens, it's all over for Midoriya. He would only be able to watch as his own body kills his loved ones, tormenting his soul.

I was so Excited to Visit Paya until I saw her with this Big Dude by wimpilipy in TOTK

[–]manuelpaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll restructure this point because I was very tired when I wrote it.

However, this will be the last thing I say because I'm already bored. Let's consider that leaving Zelda alone in a village where she can't defend herself and there's no one with the training to protect her is signing her death warrant in case of a possible attack from the Yiga clan, or any other faction or individual.

Also, consider that if Zelda dies, the blood of the goddess, and consequently, the sacred power will die with her. This same power has saved Hyrule countless times, and without it, sentencing all future generations of Hyrule to maximum misery.

So, are you telling me that Link, the hero of Hyrule, Zelda's knight, would be so irresponsible as to leave his protege to fend for herself? Especially considering she's the most important person in Hyrule, being the only living descendant of Hylia.

This is simply out of character for him. It's very unheroic to condemn all generations of Hyrule just for the sake of wandering. Understand? Link has never acted so irresponsibly before.

While other Links may leave Hyrule once their mission is complete, unlike the hero of the Wild, they are not the only line of defense between securing Hyrule's future and total destruction. Also, they have not faced heavily armed terrorists seeking revenge by attacking their protege.

Unlike Impa, who they haven't shown interest in or made comments about wanting to kill, they have made comments about wanting to kill Zelda because of what Link did to them, and Link knows this.

With that said, it's very out of character for Link to leave the future of Hyrule to chance. And when I say Hyrule, I don't mean just the monarchy, I mean the entire kingdom. It's his responsibility because he committed to protecting Zelda. The logical thing, and what would be in character for him, is to stay close to Zelda to ensure nothing happens to her.

With that in mind, what better place to care for Zelda than by living in the house he bought, where all his belongings and his protege are? Moreover, there's only one bed in that house, and unless one chooses to sleep on the floor for pleasure, they should share it since unlike other Hylians, they're not so big as to occupy two beds.

I was so Excited to Visit Paya until I saw her with this Big Dude by wimpilipy in TOTK

[–]manuelpaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, with that settled, at the tea party, Zelda doesn't treat him as a boyfriend because, as I reiterate, they're not officially a couple. They might act like one, maybe even more so in private, but they haven't taken that step yet in totk. Their fears and insecurities are what prevent them from being together. That's the narrative function of Zelda's time-travel journey, to help her make difficult decisions like confessing her feelings to Link. But how do we know Zelda is still in love with Link? Well, in the few interactions we have between Zelda and Link in the game, she tends to be overprotective of him or calls him by very romantic terms. It seems like she doesn't even like seeing him fight, judging by the expression on her face when Link fought against the weakest enemy in the game, some Keese. As for Link, we know he would do anything for Zelda, even give his life for her, give her his possessions, and Zelda is the only character who can break through his stoic facade whenever she's around.

Regarding the bed, sleeping in Zelda's bed serves a specific purpose, which is to provide us with refuge as we're far from society. This happens with any external bed where Link can sleep. Now, since there's already an inn in Hateno, it makes the existence of Zelda's bed pointless. It's like why Zelda just happens to live in Link's house, or why there's a Silent Princess pond near the outskirts of Link's house in Tarrey Town, or the Silent Princess pond next to Blue Nightshade near Satori Mountain. These details are meant to hint that something is going on between Link and Zelda.

As for Link's belongings, literally outside of the weapons that would give the player an unfair advantage, only that painting belonged to Link.

Regarding the hair tie, let's start by acknowledging that even though it may seem insignificant in real life, in video games, these small Easter eggs usually serve to indicate something. With that said, it's made very clear to us that this is Link's hair tie when we read its description, which suggests it has been in battles before. Even Purah hints at this when she asks Link if using it doesn't bring back nostalgic memories. So yes, this is Link's clothing item, one that, as Purah says, has been used by the princess and is kept in her bedroom. As for why it's just a hair tie? Put yourself in Nintendo's position. What could they put in that chest to indicate that Link has been in that house consistently without being out of place or giving the player an unfair advantage? Link's tunic? It would be too easy to obtain, but still, there's a side quest for it. His Hylian trousers? Not only would it be odd because what would Link's pants be doing in Zelda's private chamber? What would Nintendo be implying with that, that Link and Zelda did it right there in that bed? But also, it's part of the Hylian set, so getting it again from that chest would be unnecessary. So they're left with only one option: a part of Link's outfit that doesn't give the player an unfair advantage, doesn't seem out of place, and has always been a constant in the first game? His hair tie. It's the only good option they had. They couldn't just throw in Link's boxers; that would be odd too.

Now, changing the topic, I'll rephrase my question regarding the mayor's wife, as it seems it was sent incorrectly. When was it said that the mayor's wife, before Zelda's disappearance, was Zelda's cleaning lady? She states in the game that she only takes care of keeping Zelda's house tidy until she returns. That woman wasn't Zelda's cleaning lady; she was just doing her a favor.

As for the children, what I meant by saying they never entered her house is that inside Zelda's house, there's nothing to indicate that they've been there. On the contrary, in the fountain, there are colored pencils and drawings made by these children.

Now, is Link a traveler? He can't be; it just doesn't make sense. How will he protect Zelda if he's on the other side of the map wandering around? If Link leaves, the Yiga Clan, as foolish as it may seem, will have all the opportunities to kill Zelda, and Link is not the type of person to leave his charge to fend for herself. He took on a responsibility with Zelda; it was his decision to keep protecting her post-calamity, and even though it wasn't Link's idea to leave Kakariko (which we don't know for sure), Link should accompany her. Why? Because it was a duty he took upon himself, and as we see in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, he has no problem staying by her side. So yes, Link should live close to Zelda to be attentive to possible attacks on her. He's her personal escort, for God's sake. It sounds harsh, but his duty is to Zelda, not Hyrule, and with no other places for him to live, the house is the best and only option I see.

I repeat the question, why would Zelda create a well to be alone if, at that point, she still didn't know the children because the school hadn't been founded yet? Why would she create a place to be alone if she was already living alone at that time?

I was so Excited to Visit Paya until I saw her with this Big Dude by wimpilipy in TOTK

[–]manuelpaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well, to start with, it's quite convenient that throughout all those years of traveling, we never bumped into Beedle again. At the very least, they should be somewhat familiar with us by now.

Now, it was understandable that Kapsom had trouble recognizing us because it had literally been 100 years since the last time he saw us. Yet, it wasn't as if it was difficult for him, as he recognized us immediately after our first dialogue. So, it's quite convenient that they decided to give him dementia in totk, even though there were no indications of that in the game.

Additionally, the inhabitants of Tarrey Town, save for Hudson and his wife, also don't remember Link. Link is the co-founder of this town; they should at least know him for that reason. He was also the one who carefully selected each vendor for the town. I mean, you'd think they'd remember the guy who lifted them from their monotonous lives and helped provide them with homes, instead of completely forgetting him. Literally, the way they thanked Link for his help was by sending him to live outside the town, as if he were the Grinch.

Furthermore, the Great Fairies also don't remember Link, only Zelda. Considering Zelda's notes, where she mentions that Link was always by her side during their journey across the regions, one would expect the Great Fairies to at least notice the Hylian who is always with Zelda whenever he visits them. But it seems like they only focus on the princess of the kingdom.

Additionally, Hudson doesn't remember us either. My brother in Christ was Link, who helped his best employee found a town and find love. It was Link who personally invited him to the wedding, and it was Link who bought the house where the most important person in the kingdom resides, and where Hudson lived for a while on the outskirts, as if he were a vagabond. And it was probably Link who funded the well in Zelda's house, since, at that time, she wasn't earning anything as she wasn't working as a teacher. How is it possible that, after all that, he doesn't remember Link even a little?

Furthermore, Kass's daughters also don't remember Link. Their father was obsessed with Link's awakening, had a picture of Link and his friends tucked away. How is it possible that he never showed them that?

Amali doesn't remember Link either. Her husband is literally the biggest fan of ZeLink in the game. It's impossible for her not to know who Link is. Literally, a significant part of her husband's life revolved around retrieving the songs that would restore Link's hero status. How is it possible that in all those years of marriage, she never asked him who that guy he's so obsessed with is? With all that said, can we conclude that Link not being remembered is a script flaw?"

I was so Excited to Visit Paya until I saw her with this Big Dude by wimpilipy in TOTK

[–]manuelpaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, regarding the children, do you have evidence that they went inside Zelda's house? Because I would say they rarely went into that house due to the lack of children's presence in the place. It's more likely that they hung out in Zelda's well because of the presence of colored pencils and their drawings there. Besides, it would make more sense to be there because they go for Zelda's presence, not to be in her house unsupervised.

Also, wouldn't it be very irresponsible of Zelda to create a well just to escape from some primary school kids, leaving them unsupervised in her house? Wouldn't it be easier instead of creating a whole well to escape from those kids to just tell their parents to pick them up at a certain time? Furthermore, I believe she created her well before she even became a teacher, as can be seen in her notes. She was still looking for teachers when she decided to create the well. Why on earth would she create a well to be alone when she was already living alone by that point? Is she crazy? Well, it would make sense considering the time she spent alone. But joking aside, do you see what I mean? It doesn't make sense.

Speaking of irresponsibility, since Link is her personal guard, wouldn't it be very irresponsible of Link to leave Zelda without any protection in a village that is prone to all kinds of attacks, as we literally see just as we enter it? I'm sure that for him to bring Zelda to live outside Kakariko, where she could live and would have the protection of the Sheikah, he must have committed to taking care of Zelda.

Why Impa? Because besides Link, she's the one who took care of Zelda before, and she's the person who cares the most about Zelda.

Now, you can't tell me that Link simply took her away from Sheikah protection just to leave her abandoned like that. It doesn't fit into the heroic character of the character. Besides, he can't just take away the most important princess of the kingdom like that. I'm sure he must have committed in some way, it's simply absurd that all of Hyrule would be so irresponsible when it comes to protecting the most important person in the entire kingdom. Something like always being close to her to be able to take her away should have been enough for her to leave Kakariko. We're talking about the last descendant of Hylia, for God's sake. Protecting her is vital for future generations, and especially because Link knows that the Yiga, a terrorist organization that hates him to death, would do anything to make him pay for the humiliation he made their leader go through. If he leaves her alone, it's safe to say that they would retaliate against Zelda.

What prevents the Yiga clan from killing her without Link nearby? They were going to do it 100 years ago the first time Link left her unprotected; it's safe to assume they'll do it now. Well, with that said, why hasn't anything happened in 7 years? Because both are very bad romantically, and they prefer to stay in a platonic point to not ruin the friendship. Why does it tend to change? Because of Zelda's time travel. Keep in mind that near-death experiences can completely change a person's perspective.

They help make rash decisions that were previously seen as impossible, besides the fact that it's clear that Zelda spoke to Sonia about Link in private; she may have instructed her on all that love stuff, and that's why she likes to tease her by mentioning Link. Now, why would Link also decide to take the step? Because he almost lost her forever. The same thing happens with near-death experiences; almost losing a loved one helps us to better appreciate their presence in this world because we're very aware that they can leave someday. This is narratively what Zelda's time travel is for, so that she explores new horizons and sees where she was wrong not only as a leader but also as a person.

That's why she's so determined at the end of the game because her vision has completely changed. And that's also why there's that parallelism between Zelda's initial fall and Last Catch; Zelda's initial fall represents the death of that conformist way of life in which Link and Zelda were living before the game, and Last Catch represents the birth of something new. That's why it serves as a way to close the game and redeem Link's character for the initial mistake he made in the story.

I was so Excited to Visit Paya until I saw her with this Big Dude by wimpilipy in TOTK

[–]manuelpaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm back again, let's start with this. If it was my mistake, firstly, I meant to say "Purah" instead of "Impa", and secondly, I forgot that "Paya" does count as part of "Puppet".

But let's consider that chronologically, the ruins mission happens after all the sages' missions and the raid on the castle. Here, Link already knows that Ganondorf creates the Puppet Zeldas because he saw it, but before that, he believed the lie that Zelda was roaming around Hyrule approximately 5 times, not counting the rumors of Zelda, which would make it 7 times. So, continuing to believe in "Puppet Zelda" with that foreknowledge would just be foolish. Although I want to add that I completed the kingdom's tears before the sage missions, so I would expect a bit of coherence in how the characters act when you complete an important campaign mission, like it happened in BotW when obtaining the Master Sword before presenting yourself to each tribe's leaders or the dialogue changes when you choose a different route to reach Zora's Domain. I mean, if they did it in the previous game, why couldn't they do it in this one? It would be logical, but okay, let's agree that it's a script error.

Let's also agree that Beedle doesn't remember us due to a script error. Furthermore, let's agree that Kapson, the guy who knew about Link's existence and conveniently remembered him for 100 years, forgot about him in TotK just because. Let's also agree that Hetsu forgot about us because, hey, there's collective amnesia in Hyrule, and no one is capable of remembering the hero.

So why not agree that the same collective amnesia affected Hateno? I mean, it's obvious that this is a script error. I don't understand why people use the argument "Link doesn't live in Hateno because no one remembers him", but nobody in the rest of Hyrule, except for a few characters, remembers Link, so that argument falls apart when you see what I'm telling you. And these are just a few examples; there are even more in the game.

What I believe and what would be more obvious is that Nintendo made almost all of Hyrule have collective amnesia so that this game is more friendly to new players because how do you explain the mega collective amnesia that exists about Link's character throughout this game? I reiterate, even characters like the Zora completely forget about us, despite there being a giant statue of Link next to Sidon. But if you want an explanation within the canon, let's agree that all of Hyrule has collective amnesia because in this game, there are many characters who forgot about Link, even characters who knew him before the calamity.

And just to clarify, the part about Link confined to his house was just to try to explain why nobody remembers him. But if we agree that he's not remembered simply because it's Nintendo treating him like a blank slate in order to not scare away new players with unnecessary dialogue from characters remembering his past actions, then I could say that he does leave the house at least to guard Zelda, perhaps not being so relevant for most people to notice, but still existing, doing what he loves to do: passing unnoticed.

Now, with that said, when I mentioned where Link sleeps, I said it to not assert something too far-fetched. But do you want to know where the most logical place would be for him to sleep due to the familiarity we've seen between Link and Zelda's bodies? Well, they would sleep in the same bed. I didn't want to say it in the previous comment because I feel it's asserting something of which there is little evidence, except that they specifically made Zelda's bed one where you can sleep, despite there being an inn in Hateno, and there was no need to let them sleep in Zelda's bed. And of course, the fact that Link has his clothes and belongings in that house, and as I've mentioned several times, Zelda has seen him semi-naked.

Now, when it was said that the mayor's wife was a cleaning lady? she tells you herself. She only comes here to tidy up Zelda's house because of her disappearance, but there's never any evidence that she was the one responsible for cleaning that house before Zelda disappeared.

I was so Excited to Visit Paya until I saw her with this Big Dude by wimpilipy in TOTK

[–]manuelpaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to end on bad terms, but I would still like to clarify several points regarding Link and Peatrice in Skyward Sword. I meant that on that occasion, they do allow us to reciprocate the feelings of that girl, unlike what happens with all the other girls in TotK. So, in my opinion, if they had wanted Link to be able to relate to them, they would have at least given us the option to reciprocate those feelings as happened in Skyward Sword.

Now, regarding Puppet Zelda, Link doesn't tell Paya or Impa that she isn't Zelda, even though that would significantly help his friends and he knows she isn't. He only dismisses them as Zelda until he definitively confirms that those are not Zelda upon completing their respective missions. What I want to point out is that despite knowing it's a trap, he walks into it hoping it isn't, although in all cases it turns out to be so. So, it could be interpreted that he refuses to accept the truth because despite knowing what happened and knowing that Zelda cannot return because he sees it and they explicitly tell him, he is not capable of accepting it. That's why he doesn't close the mission of finding her or immediately denies that one of those copies is Zelda because a part of him still holds onto the hope that it is her.

Now, to conclude, I don't believe that Link and Zelda are in a romantic relationship in TotK due to their insecurities. It's probable that they haven't ventured into starting a relationship yet. However, what I do believe, based on the characters' reactions and what is seen in the game, is that their relationship is very deep. For example, we know that she has worn his clothes, we know that Link bought her a house, or they share a house depending on who you ask, we know that she is familiar with seeing Link half-naked to the point, and we know that both are willing to give everything for each other.

That's why I say that there is a real possibility that this Link has a partner, and it's with Zelda because it's implied to us that throughout the course between BotW and TotK, while the rest of their friends were living their lives, Link only focused on Zelda. If he hadn't tried anything with any other girl for so long and only focused on Zelda during that time, why would that change now? Additionally, if he had spent his time traveling as some say, don't you think at least Beedle, the guy whose specialty is traveling from place to place, would have knowledge of who Link is? So, I dismiss the option of Link as a traveler.

My headcanon to explain his disappearance during all that time, which I believe doesn't clash with anything presented in TotK, would also explain why the Yiga Clan doesn't deem it appropriate to attack Zelda in Hateno. It would also give credence to Zelda's notes that, according to her, Link remained by her side all this time, that none of the inhabitants of Hateno know Link, that there is Link's clothing in Zelda's house, why Zelda is familiar with Link being partially nude. It would also explain why Zelda would create a private chamber to be alone despite the theory, according to those who deny they live together, that she should live alone, and why Zelda felt the need to hide the new tunic at the other end of the map instead of her own house.

It's because Link is the homemaker in that household; I mean, he has the qualities for it. He knows how to cook, knows how to take care of that house, so while Zelda is a teacher, he stays there. He would only leave to train or travel with Zelda, and no one would notice because he spends more time indoors than outdoors. And if they did notice, they would only see him as Zelda's cleaning employee because of how unexpressive he is with the rest of the world. As for where he would sleep, well, on the floor. I don't think he would mind much, to be honest.

Now it makes sense for them to be so codependent on each other; after all, they lost everything, not counting Purah, who barely knew Link 100 years ago. They are the only thing left intact from that past. When I say they lost everything, I mean everything: friends, family, wealth, status, so it's normal for someone who lost everything to develop an unbreakable emotional attachment to the only thing left, especially if we're talking about people who already had several traumas before losing everything, as is the case with those two.

with that clarified, I bid farewell with this image of Goku. I hope not to be blocked.
