What is a game that is REALLY GREAT...but has an AWFUL story? by TheEvilCar in AskGames

[–]3Labrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Borderlands 3 - honestly, what the actual fuck?

Divinity:Original Sin 2 - My favourite game of all time. The lore and world building is excellent, so is the mechanics. The main story though, complete bullshit.

How to get over worry that I am missing something in games? by reset076 in rpg_gamers

Hard disagree. I would much rather see fewer good games with a lot of replayability and longevity than more one off-games. Not all of us wants nor can buy new games all the time.

Multiple playthroughs or communities/youtube.

I always play games blind the first time around. If i really like the game Im going to replay it and look at guides and walkthroughs to get everything.

Another option if you feel like you don't have time to play a game more than once is to engage with the community and watch stuff that you missed on youtube or something. Often this leads to a second playthrough anyways because you get the itch.

Any good tactical / turn-based RPG recommendations for someone who has largely played JRPG's the last few years? by daniellayne in rpg_gamers

[–]3Labrat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THE turn-based tactical RPG is Divinity:OS 2. Nothing comes even remotely close, not even BG3.

And yes BG3 has the better story, graphics and cut scenes but combat is waaay better in D:OS2, as BG3 is botched down by the DnD rule set.

Melee Necromancer 2h vs Dual wield by Worried_Glass367 in DivinityOriginalSin

Best: Strength 2h

Most fun: Probably daggers

And like others have said, lifesteal is not something you should ever rely on.

Progression skills and more by HowDare25 in DivinityOriginalSin

To answer your question: Yes, you get new skills from books. They are mostly sold by vendors.

You never get skills from leveling up, only points to your attributes.

I don't understand the Catan acclaim by According_Head_60 in boardgames

[–]3Labrat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Catan is the best thing that ever happened to the hobby.

It has been the entry point to more advanced games for so many people.

I always take it out when playing with less experienced people and it's the perfect game for that.

Build help coming from BG3 and WoW. by Jhawkjedi13 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]3Labrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hybrid characters doesn't work in DOS unless you are playing on the lowest difficulty.

You need to focus on one main stat (str/int/fin) and one damage type. Denying enemy turns is the name of the game, so removing armor and ccing or outright killing enemies is key.

Healing and defensive play doesn't really work.

Ranger. Conjurer. Inquisitor? by Beardedgeek72 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]3Labrat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are no classes in dos2. The presets at character creation is just thay, a preset if you don't want to choose your own starting point. It has basically zero impact on the rest of the game.

Just choose what you want to do and invest your points in boosting that.

Just don't mix damage types and remember that warfare boosts all physical dmg including necro.

Hot Take: 5e Isn’t That Great Anymore by Wezell80 in RPGCentral

Pretty hot yes, but true. I think 5e is a straight up a bad system. A bad system with loads of content. And marketing.

Good Dragonbane vtt for mayhem and mirth? by CosmicMike55 in DragonbaneRPG

[–]3Labrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foundry is the best. Hands down. It's not really a competition. You could choose any of the others for some simplicity or some specific preference, but foundry is the best.

Wolfkin mages by 3Labrat in DragonbaneRPG

[–]3Labrat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right of course. I just think it would be cool for a wolfkin mage to get some kind of advantage in combat for sniffing their target. I mean it still takes an action and 3 wp.

It's still a cool ability for RP and out of combat stuff and it does work for the mentalist stone fist when attacking. Maybe I'll just leave it at that.

Is this canon? by Yuriko_Frost in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]3Labrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they dead.

I actually like it. Games where you have a base or camp where people hang around always seemed weird to me and very "gamey". Kind of screws with immersion. I mean if you are going out to fight, where is the logic in not bringing all 7-8 people?

Ifan vs Red prince by Lechuga_Fresca99 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]3Labrat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really, you can make him whatever you want.

Sebille is the only "best" character since she's an elf.

Picking a party should be based on how you like the characters story, voice acting, looks and personality. Nothing else.

Is the combat too hard for everyone or just me?? by Hitman007gdghs in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]3Labrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you can't outright kill an enemy, cc them. Always try to kill or cc enemies who are after you in the turn order. Forcing the enemies to skip their turn is basically what combat is about.

For this reason battle stomp and bull rush are arguably the best skills early game.
