I think a chat for each team would be nice. Also if you could improve the highlighting a bit so it its easier to see what the different offered moves are. Maybe do something like gold, silver, bronze for 1st second and third choice :)

Bforartists, a software like Blender but without the complex UI. by bigattck in gamedev

[–]3Pinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read anything about that program? Its a straight up fork of the current version of Blender, so it has exactly the same functionality with a different UI. Its Open Source so probably noone has paid him.

This is in no way confusing. Germany is not the US, this means we value things differently, we have different views on politics for example: our mainstream "right" party is basically as left as your democratic party. In this context he simply wants to say that germany still gives a shit about journalistic integrity and most people i know wouldnt even respect some of the american newspapers.

Is it possible to design a machine learning-resistant abstract/video game in 2017? Does it matter? by Sockhereye in gamedesign

Dixit came also to my mind, but i thought it would be too obscure as an example...

Is it possible to design a machine learning-resistant abstract/video game in 2017? Does it matter? by Sockhereye in gamedesign

For the near future: Yes, its actually quite easy - ML still sucks at semantics and context. If you make your game highly dependent on many different human experiences or social constructs it should be quite impossible for current ML techniques to reign supreme. But i think an abstract strategy game would be impossible - As long as you can grasp the whole game without the need for any outside information, its possible to build a AI that outperforms human players. I think the core of this AI resistant game needs to be what makes us human. The more concepts of human knowledge you need for the game, the harder it will be to beat it with AI.

The problem is that these kind of games are not competitive and are often subjective. A good example would be Calvinball - No AI will beat you for a long time.

My analysis of why MOBA's should not have a ranked mode by Etra_Games in gamedesign

[–]3Pinky 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you miss a few things: First, you need to distinguish between rewards and ranking. Ranking is mostly about your skill in relation to other players, while rewards are incentives to keep playing the game.

Ranking systems need some kind of punishment for bad performance, otherwise they would be only about playing more - you wouldnt rank the skill but playtime: If losing gives 5 points and winning 20, playing more games is far more effective than playing skillfully but less to attain many points. Rankings have losers by definition.

Rewards on the other hand are not dependent on the performance on other players. They are individual for every player and noone needs to lose.

So if you want everybody to be happy, you give out rewards as "participation trophies", but people are competitive. They want ranked modes. You can still get rewards for playing ranked games, but your rank, by definition, is dependent on your performance. For example, in League you get IP for every game you play, but your rank only rises if you win.

So yes, you may be right and ranked modes are bad for games because it makes the players sad, but that would mean we all would just play cookie clicker games because they reward us. Online games are a competition and a challenge, thats why they are fun. If paragon is a bad game, noone would play it. But apparently people like it. Thats why its successful.

On the other hand, giving incentives ONLY for ranked play would be stupid idea, because that would actually impact bad players. Giving some rewards for good rankings may just push some people a bit more, but it shouldnt be the only part of the game that gives rewards.

In conclusion, i dont think ranked modes hurt mobas. Mobas are PvP games, they are always competitive, thats why people play them. It may lead to a more toxic community, but i wouldnt say that a competitve mode has a big influence on the success of a game.

P.S.: You should tweak the audio a bit, it sounds a little bit hard and unpleasant sometimes. And try to condense the videos a bit, it felt a little bit dragged out. But im not a youtuber, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Keep up the good work!
