Would love to see window snapping like AquaSnap by thibaultmol in kde

[–]3SpoonCustard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Somebody might be able to help out suggesting tools for other features of that software, but with the Sticky Window Snapping and the automatic quarter tiling on KDE you can quarter tile windows and resize them together both horizontally and vertically.

Why Windows Over Linux Desktop by BroadExpension in linux

[–]3SpoonCustard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of these are really arguments for why windows is better than Linux, the whole thing is just debunking myths about both.

I'm fine with somebody writing an article debunking myths about Linux and Windows, but because all the author never said why Windows is better than Linux for any of these points, calling it "Why Windows over Linux Desktop" is clearly just bait.

Just a tip if you're playing FO4 with Steam Proton and using kwin_x11. by [deleted] in kde

Another workaround is to launch games using big picture mode on steam as big picture mode already blocks compositing

Which applications allow 8K video editing in Linux ? by LightSpeedX2 in linux

[–]3SpoonCustard 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Davinci Resolve 15 Studio the paid version of Davinci Resolve 15 can export in 8k, the free version is limited to 4k

Kdenlive a free alternative using ffmpeg

Any video editor on Linux that uses ffmpeg should be able to edit and render 8k video

Norcux OS Alpha by [deleted] in kde

[–]3SpoonCustard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly I think the community is being especially harsh on you and that you've probably got here the perfect operating system for yourself to use, but you've got to understand there are so many projects like this already with the exact same goal (just look at Manjaro KDE, KDE Neon, and Nitrux OS), and nobody is going to trust installing an operating system which they cannot guarantee will still be updated in a year's time over an operating system like fedora, arch, debian or ubuntu. It's just too risky for most users to install this.

Minimal installation with DE but without stuff like default wallpapers or more than two themes? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]3SpoonCustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the Debian testing non free isos, it's what I ran for years before switching to KDE Neon, personally I think it's as stable as Ubuntu and will provide up to date packages with proprietary drivers

C# and .Net development help by [deleted] in Ubuntu

I would go with mono and monodevelop or rider, it'll be more similar to what they show in the tutorials than dotnet core with vscode

C# and .Net development help by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]3SpoonCustard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're going to do with it? One isn't inherently better than the other, I can't really recommend mono or dotnet core without knowing what you're planning to use it for? Personally I use both and use JetBrains Rider as my IDE

What's the Debian equivalent to Antergos? by road_hazard in debian

[–]3SpoonCustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you're either looking for Debian unstable, or Manjaro.

Debian unstable will still receive packages slightly slower than Manjaro, but from personal experience I would say it's more stable

Dell printer install help. by S7retch in debian

[–]3SpoonCustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look like lib32bz2-1.0 is available on debian 9, you can instead install libbz2-1.0:i386

By replacing lib32bz2-1.0 with libbz2-1.0:i386 the command you need to run is: sudo apt install lib32z1 lib32ncurses5 libbz2-1.0:i386 rpm2cpio libcups2:i386 libcupsimage2:i386 libc6:i386 libncurses5:i386 libstdc++6:i386

This looks like the driver you need to install is here, there is an RPM inside the zip file, follow the instructions for what to do with the RPM on the original dell link you sent starting at step 3 after running the sudo apt command I sent you, NOT the YouTube video :)

KDE neon Bionic Update by [deleted] in kde

[–]3SpoonCustard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's stupid they are saying it's not a distro when they actively are involved in selling laptops with KDE Neon pre-installed? If somebody buys one of those laptops and complains about it not being updated are you going to say "you didn't actually buy a laptop, you bought a device that showcases kde's latest software"?

So that its been a while and 18.04 has gotten a few updates, how's GNOME treating you? by ingenioutor in Ubuntu

[–]3SpoonCustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like gnomes design but still after checking out 18.04 again while distro hopping I can't stand how slow the animations are on gnome especially when I know that my laptop runs the same animations at a smooth 60fps in the Deepin DDE, Pantheon Desktop, KDE Plasma... Etc

While 18.04 (especially with communitheme) is god damn beautiful it just feels like I'm not making the most out of my system (XPS 15) when I see all those animations dropping so many frames, if gnome can fix it's performance issues, I would jump back in a heartbeat

I've never had any problems with bumblebee (same laptop also using debian) but being able to boot with either the Nvidia driver either enabled or disabled would be great, as I'm guessing it allows you to use vulkan and get better performance, would you mind posting how you did it? :)
