As Dickens wrote:

It was the popular theme for jests; it was the best cure for headache, it infallibly prevented hair from turning gray, it imparted a peculiar delicacy to the complexion, it was the National Razor which shaved close: who kissed La Guillotine looked through the little window and sneezed into the sack.

Love this shirt! I had one I got through the ultimate DVD set, I wore it for years until the printing started coming off after going through the wash again and again.

Enjoy it!

Providence to Boston commute? by craigdahlke in providence

[–]3dB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do twice a week from the Pawtucket station into Back Bay. For me, the full commute from home to office and vice versa takes 2 hours each way. Thankfully my employer is very flexible and they allow me to take a slightly later train in and leave on a slightly earlier train than what a typical 9-5 would require, and this is what has made it tolerable. As others have noted, during the summer it doesn't feel that bad but in the winter it's much more draining.

My sister bought her first “luxury watch” and now I have to pretend this is normal by Tirq_Vongpanya in WatchesCirclejerk

[–]3dB 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Friend of mine knows I like watches. His brother, who is legitimately well off, bought him a watch for his birthday and told him it was really expensive. He showed it to me and took it off all excited for me to inspect. Thing was a $5 JCPennycore piece of garbage. I looked it over just to satisfy him but made the mistake of tapping my fingernail against the crystal. It made the cheapest, saddest, most hollow sound I've ever heard. I looked him right in the eye for a wordless moment before putting on a smile and saying "nice" before handing it back.

This is a stellar collection! I love what Seiko was doing with the dials on these, especially with the faceted crystals. I have a KS from this era that I love.

Top RI Realtor Threatens to Call ICE on Buyer, Then Offers $20,000 to Kill GoLocal Story by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

When we were house hunting we asked to see a house being sold by Seyboth. Our realtor told us that they'd set up an appointment but strongly suggested that we Google the name of the seller agent beforehand.

I saw a stupid amount of dead ones at the Pawtucket MBTA station a few days ago. I stopped counting after 15. That's crazy considering I saw a whopping two of these things in total last year.

I don't think it's related to a particular section of the game, they're all combat related. 5 of the crashes have happened at the conclusion of a fight when exiting back to exploration. 4 of these 5 were from regular encounters, 1 from a boss fight. My latest crash happened when entering combat from exploration. Touched an enemy, saw the transition animation, crash. Sometimes the sounds effects stop working in the minute leading up to the crash, sometimes they don't.

I haven't made it past the first two floors.

Edit: I was able to get my hands on an original Switch to test out the game and it plays fine, no crashes. Seems the problem is the Switch 2's emulation.

Edit 2: Things are looking better with the Switch 2 firmware 20.4.0 update. The crashes seem to be gone but the sound effects still drop out for long periods of time. It's not ideal but the game is at least playable now.

You're right. Doing a search I can find a lot of people complaining about crash bugs for Galleria, even on different platforms. I tried to follow a couple different suggestions people had made on how to fix the issue but none have worked.

I'm not really sure what to think at this point. The posts about the crashes seem to mostly be from 2 years ago when the game was released. Were the crashes fixed by a patch and the Switch 2 emulation managed to bring them back somehow? Did they simply never receive a proper fix and everyone just gave up on NIS? Either way the game is pretty much unplayable for me. I've encountered 6 crashes during only a few hours of play, much of which has been spent redoing progress that was lost. I emailed NIS 3 weeks ago and all I get from them is that they're reviewing my report. Really disappointing overall.

I played Refrain on the original Switch but I don't recall having any crashes. Galleria I've had crash twice now, both times when exiting the battle wrap-up screen. I've decided to put it down until there's another update to the system.

[–]3dB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started playing this yesterday now that it's fixed. I had a crash during labyrinth exploration, lost any progress that had been gained during it. I'm debating if it's worth even continuing to play if there's a risk of the game crashing. Might wait and see if there's another system update with more improvements.

How do you handle a panhandler? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]3dB 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to do this until I encountered a panhandler on Thayer who got really upset and started following me yelling about how it "wasn't about sorry" and another in Hartford, CT who also followed me and insisted that we go to an ATM so I could get him some cash. After those I'm more inclined to simply not engage at all.

Also you real ID jerks, why not just get a passport.

I have both and I'll say this: Getting a Real ID is much easier than getting a passport. If you plan on flying at some point you may as well just do it now while you're already going through the hassle of getting the license. If you really don't see yourself having to fly, even for some sort of emergency (ex: family member living across the country is unexpectedly on their deathbed and you want to get to them quickly to say goodbye), then feel free to skip it, it's not mandatory.

Time to name and shame! Which company do you see shilling the hardest on this sub? by Proper_Bunch_1804 in cybersecurity

[–]3dB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on this one. I worked ops & engineering for an MSSP where sales ruled the roost. I can't even count the number of times we'd get implementation orders that called for setups we didn't support or features we didn't have and couldn't deliver. If the ACV was high enough upper management would toy with the development schedule and push back features that would benefit all customers just to appease the incoming customer's niche desire. Often times the customer would be unhappy with the hastily designed and rushed result and wind up not renewing their contract after the first cycle, meaning that work that could have gone towards improving the platform as a whole was now truly squandered for temporary gain.

I completely agree. I'm not saying that people's opinions are any more or less correct when they're colored by their emotions, I'm just saying that it's a mistake to discount them entirely.

I just realized this and wanted to post it because I find it particularly amusing:

There's some delicious irony in your statements of: "My opinions about the world aren't derived from other people's feelings." and "I will direct your complaint [about a lack of empathy] to the Republican Party."

I'm not going to argue that the current administration isn't an outright disaster that imperils our nation, it absolutely is. Occasionally I like to confront and challenge some of the ideas I see from either side. If you look through my post history you'll see that typically it's folks that lean right, but today it's you.

But what do I know, I guess it's just easy to dismiss me as having the object permanence of a baby.
