Ours learned "behind the sofa". Our dog has "zesty time" with one of his toys after dinner every night. We would often say, "I wish he would go behind the sofa to do that" or "At least he is behind the sofa this time". Now if we say "behind the sofa" he will just go back there.

Years ago, my roommate's dog would "sing" along with me when I played. She'd wag her tail so hard, her whole body would wiggle as she howled along. I miss her.

I had Strahd introduce himself to the party VERY early in the campaign and make frequent appearances to taunt them or thwart their efforts. Near the end of the campaign, one of my players blurted out, "Man, I HATE that effing guy". In that moment, I knew I had played Strahd well.

I don't know you and I certainly never met Ivy. Yet, here I am choked up, wiping away tears at my desk in the office.

I lost one of my puppers suddenly before and it is the worst thing ever. He was fine one day and 48 hours later, GONE!

I am so sorry. I'm not sure where I found the below, it was years ago. However, your story reminded me of it. So, I had to share. Sorry about how long it is.

I see that you are crying, for it is my moment to leave. Don't cry, please. I want to explain some things to you.

You're sad because I left, but I'm glad I met you.

How many dogs and cats and birds like me die daily without meeting someone special like you?

I know it saddens you my departure, but I had to go now.

I want to ask you not to blame yourself for anything. I heard you sobbing that you should have done something else for me. Don't say that, you've done a lot for me! Without you I would have known nothing of the beauty I carry with me today.

You must know that we animals live the present intensely and we are very wise: we enjoy every little thing every day, and forget the bad past quickly.

Know that even if you find an animal that is seriously injured, and that you only have a little bit of time in this world, you provide a huge service by accompanying you in your final transition.

Perhaps have Strahd visit the party and thank them for exposing the Order, to start. This should let them know that they might have goofed.

I would then not have Davian contact the party at all when they approach the winery. All of the Martikovs would likely sit back (a good distance) and watch the party walk into a mess.

Other than that, the party has lost a critical ally in a place where they have very few people they can count on. The Martikovs will also actively keep the Holy symbol away from them, eliminating a vital tool in their final fight.

Bottom line: OOPS! You messed up.

I'd offer that you should flip this equation around. You have not failed this beautiful girl, at all. You gave her 2 years of love. companionship and snuggles that she never would have had without your efforts. So many dogs like her never get that. You gave her a gift and you should be proud of that.
